Common Questions and Answers about Shoulder flexibility norms

flexibility

Avatar n tn Hello Everybody, I was wondering what you would suggest I could do to improve the function of my right shoulder. This might help give an idea about what is going on with my shoulder and what I can do about it. 1. When I put my right arm behind my back and then bring my arm to the middle of my upper back, I can barely bring it up. I appreciate greatly any advice or insight, or if there is anything else that I can provide that will help solve the problem.
Avatar m tn I have flexibility issues in almost all of my joints (Knees, elbow, wrist, ankle). Coincidentally, all the joints in the right side of my body are worse. I cannot squat as the back of my feet cannot touch my butt, my hand cannot touch my shoulder, cannot do pushup as wrist will hurt a lot. I have done xrays but doctor said my xrays are fine. Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched.
Avatar n tn One morning I woke up and could only bend my arm halfway to the shoulder. Attempting to move past it caused enormous pain. I'm normally quite agile and can reach my left shoulder with my left hand without difficulty. I rested from exercising but the problem only worsened with swollen bursa, a golf ball sized protrusion on the back of the elbow, as well as difficulties to extend my arm fully. The doctor I visited sent me home with a max dose of diclofenac for 2 week.
Avatar f tn Put your right hand behind your back up between your shoulder blades. Lean your head to the right as far as you can with your ear toward your shoulder. Try to keep looking forward as you do this. Hold for a count of 20. Do the same with the left arm and lean to the left side. Do this about 5 times on each side. You can feel it stretching but its not painful. Sometimes, it feels good to me to slightly push my ear toward my shoulder by putting a little pressure on my head with my opposite hand.
Avatar n tn My right arm was normal with no decreased flexibility. There was no pain, and I just figured the problem with the left arm was reduced flexibility due to aging. Then about 4-5 months ago, I noticed that the range of motion had reduced even more. Maybe a few more inches. Still no real pain. This basically only affected the ability to reach behind my back and wash it in the shower. Up until that time, it never entered my mind that something could be wrong with my shoulder/upper arm.
Avatar f tn I also don't like shaving. Body hair is a sign of health with some exceptions like PCOS. I have no problems with being hairy and nor does the general public. Intimate partners sometimes do. I can compromise if he pays for those new electrolysis hair removers. For me it is a test of a man's empathy and differentiation. Shaving is an unreimbursed labor and purchase of equipment that most women partake in for various reasons, but mostly to fit in.
Avatar f tn Ihave been told its not a torn rotator cuff, its just a strain. I still have constant pain in my shoulder and I found a bruise on my shoulder it looks like it is going away but it looks like it covered all of my shoulder. What does this sound like? And what if anything can be done?
Avatar n tn s possible for the sub-deltoid bursa of the shoulder to be affected by a vaccine that is placed too high in the deltoid. If the sub-deltoid bursa is inflamed, patients typically experience pain and discomfort with raising the arm, especially above shoulder level. The discomfort is usually characterized as "sharp" with the arm is raised and as a "dull ache" when the arm is at rest.
Avatar f tn Warming up with gentle stretching can help get your body ready for your workout. Gentle stretches such as side bends, shoulder shrugs, arm circles, overhead stretches, and bending to reach (but not touch) your toes are all good warm-up exercises. Do three to five repetitions of each. If you are swimming or walking, you can also warm up with a slower swim or walk. If you have OA in your knees or hips, you want to avoid any jolting exercise like jogging that causes your feet to pound the ground.
Avatar n tn t have any prior problems with joint pain or anything, I am not an athlete but I do exercise regularly but not excessively or aggressively and I have not had any trauma or accidents this year. In late August I had sourness in my left shoulder and I just thought I was sour from the gym but then 2 days later I could not raise my arm at all and the night before I went to my doctors appointment I woke up with chronic pain and discomfort and I have high pain tolerance.
Avatar f tn I also have the Baby Belly Band that is a neoprene adjustable support belt that comes with optional shoulder and groin attachments to help with support against things like hernias, back ache and groin pain. I had to get mine to help with support to try to minimize further damage to a femoral hernia I have. There are others of similar names too - I just went with that particular one since it seemed to have a lot of flexibility ($40- ~80 depending on what parts you add).
Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.
Avatar f tn Hamstring stretch can help maintain flexibility in your hamstrings as well as reduce any pain that may occur as the result of high hamstring tendinopathy. Position your affected leg on a couch or bench fully extended. Your heel should be flat on the bench with your toes facing the ceiling. Sit straight up. Allow your unaffected leg to hang over the edge of the bench with your foot touching the ground. Slowly lean forward at your waist while maintaining a straight back. Reach for your toes.
Avatar f tn I have contined to have neck and shoulder pain daily, some days worse than others.....but my neck started popping about 2 months ago and hasn't stopped. No matter how slightly I move me head it pops.
192055 tn?1263555537 The doctor did not want to use bolts and plates since I would lose some flexibility. Well, I already lost some flexibility so no big deal. I went back to the doc (diff doc since my surgeon moved) and he said I may be in pain b/c my muscle seems a bit tight. He took an xray, nothing abnormal. He does not want to do another surgery. QUESTION: I am far from a doctor... but in my opinion, I would prefer to have bolts and plates instead of my thin muscle that hurts.
18251556 tn?1463792320 It could just be an excess amount of a certain type of hormones/chemicals being produced in my brain, but the queer part of this anxiety is that I have no regard for social norms or approval of others whatsoever. In fact, I could care less about being embarrassed or people thinking poorly of me. Yet, I still get social anxiety when facing social situations. What could be the cause of this?
179856 tn?1333547362 women shouldn’t serve in combat because “social norms” would make it “humiliating” for men. After Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta’s surprise announcement on Wednesday that women would be free to serve in most or all combat roles by 2016, the Wall Street Journal published an op-ed by former Marine infantryman Ryan Smith.
