Avatar m tn hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. For instance, I couldnt even remember the name of a movie I saw with my friend two days ago or our conversation....sometimes conversations hours after they have occurred. is there anythinng I can do to help improve my memory???
1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
Avatar f tn His short term memory might never get better but if he keeps repeating things enough it might make to into the section of the brain that controls long term memorys. I know how frustrating it is for both of you.
Avatar m tn Blueberries also help existing nerve cells in the brain to communicate with each other better. They even appear to encourage the growth of new nerve cells in the brain. If Big Pharma came up with a drug that could grow new nerve cells in the brain. Not that it could (or would) ever happen, but can you imagine the headlines: "Grow New Brain Cells with Our Miracle Drug!!!!!" Sure, there would be the occasional side-effects, like your head exploding. But that's a small risk.
Avatar m tn It is the part of the nervous system that organizes and processes information in the brain. If someone asks you a question for example------ the brain takes in the words. It then processes them. It then organizes the thought. It then organizes the thought for the answer. It gets the "plan" together and it then sends the message back out to the motor muscles (mouth) to answer.
Avatar n tn And that there are dozens, if not hundreds of others, and articles; which are written on the subject, and the association, or side effect of short term memory loss, while using, and apparently even after discontinuing Ambien CR 12.5 tablets! I've been taking Ambien 12.5 MG tablets, or its generic brother, " ZOLPIDEM TARTRATE 12.
Avatar f tn I had whiplash and have experienced a little neck pain ever since, but the emergency responders said I was okay at the scene of the accident, had me turn my head a bunch of different ways, checked my response etc. Could this mess up my memory? The reason I wonder if it is something else is because I have always been a little scatter-brained, but it has gotten noticably worse. Could this be hormonal? I also have depression and take 50 mg of Zoloft.
Avatar n tn Working on any underlying condition may help the short term memory loss. Head injury, too much stress, lack of sleep, depression/anxiety, drug use, and many other things. https://www.healthline.com/health/short-term-memory-loss AND https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/7-common-causes-of-forgetfulness-201302225923 Have you had a doctor evaluation for the memory issue? 1763947 tn?1334055319 Hi, I was wondering if any one else has experienced problems with short term memory? Mine is getting worse by the day and I am really worried. My friend called me one night and the next day when we spoke, I didn't remember ever talking to her the night before. This type of thing is happening more and more. My move was delayed until the end of the month which means I am delayed in seeing my new LLMD. Would love to hear if this is something many people experience?
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you very much for your question; although it is quite difficult for me to give you a precise diagnosis here without being able to examine you, though I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern. You need a proper assessment and investigation here since there can be many causes for memory loss & concentration impairment.
Avatar m tn Although it may not be memory, it is the brain in general. For me, it is the absolute inability to focus on one task. A lot of the veterans here will say it takes time, but it will happen. They just reassured me to take baby steps, and only get done what you absolutely have to for the first month or two and steadily add more tasks as you feel comfortable. I'm at day 6ish of one of my millionith relapses.
Avatar f tn You may have short term or long term memory loss, if it involves a specific area of the brain concerned with memory. Do not worry. Nothing like this is going to happen. As I said earlier a man’s brain is actually quite safe. The smack is just like we hit our head against a door or something by mistake. Relax! Concentrate on your studies. I am sure you will do well. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hello, Sarah. My husband (age 57) had a hemorrhagic stroke last year in July. The stroke mainly struck his eyesight. He now has double vision. His short term memory was affected but it has gotten a lot better. It is still very early in your moms recovery. I would say the short term memory will get better, but, how much is anyones guess. My husbands doctors never once said anything about Alzheimers. Find out what areas of your moms brain was hit.

For short term memory loss take a healthy nutritious diet containing lots of green leafy vegetables and fruits daily.Pls exercise regularly as it improves your heart function. This means that your heart can pump the blood better and profuse your brain with a rich supply of blood.

Avatar n tn Hi, When you have had a brain aneurysm removed and 10 years later the shunt fell of in my head the dr says it's not serious. But for the last 6 days my memory has been really bad. A friend came up and i was telling him all about my motorcycle then he went to check on the kids and i retold the story and i don't remember saying it the first time at all.. I knew short term memory would happen, but this was much worse than that.
Avatar n tn Most people lose memories just before the incident of concussion or loss of consciousness because the event that results in them losing consciousness - the punch to the head etc - interrupts how the brain stores memories. The brain needs to pay attention to something, hold it in short term memory, link it to meaningful past experiences and then store it in long term memory to lay down a memory.
