rash

Avatar n tn hi, pls don't... shingles is contagious.. it's like chicken pox.. and u don't want to pop it accidentally coz it'll leave a nasty scar..
2071240 tn?1331480714 Yeah probably a good idea not to, just in case. Shingles isn't as contagious as chicken pox but it's still very contagious.. not worth the risk in my opinion. You might actually consider having your husband or any other family member you live with get the vaccination if they haven't already. I believe anyone over the age of 60 is eligible for it. Out of curiosity did they do a breast examination/ your last mammogram was clear?
Avatar f tn You're confusing different viruses. Shingles is a skin rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. This virus is called the Varicella zoster virus (VZV) - also referred to as herpes zoster, and is in the herpes family of viruses. So it's the reactivation of the chickenpox virus that causes shingles. You can't catch shingles from someone else who has shingles.
Avatar n tn Shingles is most contagious through open wounds. The rash is only the initial part of the infection. http://www.shinglesremedy.co.uk/shingles-rash.
Avatar n tn Shingles, or chickenpox is contagious to anyone who has never had it. Since shingles develops from the reactivation of chickenpox, it is impossible to get shingles from someone else’s outbreak. However, people who haven’t previously had chickenpox can contract it from coming into contact with someone who has shingles, since the fluid from the blisters can carry the virus to others.
Avatar n tn Until the rash has developed crusts, a person is extremely contagious. The person is no longer contagious after the virus has disappeared. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn its DNA into the DNA of the nerve cell. Shingles is caused when the VZV is reactivated after many years. The rash of shingles is usually limited to a strip of skin somewhere on the body (the strip is the area of skin covered by the nerve in which the VZV lies dormant). The rash often looks similar to the original chickenpox rash, but it can be very painful; some patients need narcotic pain medicines to relieve the pain of shingles.
Avatar n tn This newly-infected individual may then develop chickenpox, but will not immediately develop shingles. Until the rash has developed crusts, a person is extremely contagious. The person is no longer contagious after the virus has disappeared. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Two days ago I woke up and noticed a rash on my left inner thigh. This morning when I woke up I noticed that the rash had gotten extremely painful and had spread across the top and outerside of my thigh. I went to the doctor this afternoon and was diagnosed with shingles. He wrote me a prescription for Valtrex and told me it was a good thing I came in because we were able to catch it early. Much to my dismay I just noticed a small patch on the left side of my lower back.
324372 tn?1222820202 My doctor said it's too dangerous to get the vaccination while pregnant, so I just have to wait it out and see. :( AND, the lawyers at my work apparently told HR that it was not a "reportable" medical condition because it isn't considered contagious. Shingles, in theory, isn't contagious. You can't give someone shingles if you have shingles. What those dorks aren't considering is that you CAN give someone chicken pox if you have shingles, IF they are susceptible.
Avatar f tn Without seeing what it actually looks like, its hard to make a diagnosis. Shingles comes from the same virus as Chickenpox. It is more common in the older population. When the virus is no longer dormant, it tends to follow your nerve tract found around the flank of your torso. It is very painful because of the nerves involved. Even when treated, some people can experience the pain months to years after.
Avatar m tn that is odd that the dr wont prescribe you and antiviral. shingles is very contagious. have you gone to see the dr to prove to you that it is a breakout of shingles. i have had episodes of shingle and the first stage when i first got the virus was really bad.
1712308 tn?1308395494 The classic description of shingles, aside from the linear distribution, is that the rash is made up of multiple red swollen areas with groups of vesicles or bumps filled with clear fluid inside the red areas. Shingles is contagious to people who have never had chickenpox, so I recommend you see a dermatologist as soon as possible to have it treated. In elderly and immunosuppressed patients, the pain from shingles may be severe and may last a long time.
Avatar n tn I've never had a rash nor an allergic reaction in my life but about 4 days ago I started noticing my right armpit was becoming irritated. About 3 days ago I noticed it getting red and rashy looking. The rash is near where the pectorial and arm meet and it's got small red bumps inside the rash area. I've uploaded 2 pictures to show what they look like.
Avatar m tn Hello, I agree with your doctor as chances are there that this rash is due to shingles. Shingles is an infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is the virus that causes chickenpox. Shingles occurs in people who have had chickenpox and represents a reactivation of the dormant varicella-zoster virus. The first sign is usually a tingling feeling, itchiness, or stabbing pain on the skin. After a few days, a rash appears as a band or patch of raised dots on the side of the trunk or face.
Avatar f tn as we grew more together he told me about shingles..a form of herpes that he has or gets on his back. I was not too comfortable for i didnt know much about it and yes i was wondering if having sex with him is contagious..He had told me that he doesnt get the rash below on his private parts but only on his back ..not much but still a few ..I am a little concerned about the sex part with him..I havent had sex yet with him due to that..I am very uncomfortable and yes afraid to get herpes..
Avatar f tn Usually the rash will reappear again within 6 weeks after the first active episode, although it may not be as severe. The rash is the end of the contagious period.. Scarring often occurs because the rash comes from the deep nerve endings and has to travel through the muscle and fat to the epidermis (skin). None of this is consistent with Lyme or Meningitis.
2012762 tn?1332965493 yes anyone who has had chicken pox can potentially get shingles in the future but they can happen at any age and shingles is different from chicken pox... its a localized pain rash... (im not sure what shingles in the future has to do with chicken pox right now? ) as far a diagnosing chicken pox you should see a dr for that as there are many causes for rashes and being prego does raise concerns...
233552 tn?1228319699 And yes if you have never had chickenpox you should stay away from anyone with chickenpox or shingles. It is only contagious if you have never had chickenpox.
Avatar m tn If you never had chicken pox as a child then this rash cant be shingles and shingles is only contagious to those that have never had chicken pox. Shingles is an eruption of the chicken pox virus. This is not considered an STD but forms from childhood contraction from an infected person.
Avatar f tn If it only goes 1/2 way around the body...you could be experiencing a shingles breakout. Shingles is HIGHLY contagious, a form of herpe or chicken pox virus. There is nothing over the counter for it. Zovorax is a good topical cream by prescription only. I would suggest you see your doctor ASAP. BUT...be sure to tell the receptionist on the phone it might be shingles! This is SO important. The very young, the pregnent, and the elderly are extremely suseptable to this type of herpe virus.
Avatar f tn My husband has been kind and understanding (I am the only girl he has ever known), but I am really struggling with this, so one thing at a time...How contagious am I? What precautions really need to be taken?
Avatar m tn Go to a doctor. It could be shingles and very contagious.

Avatar f tn okay this rash just showed up above my eye a few days ago. It was raised with a few bumps. Now as a week passes by, the raised rash turned into a bloody mess UNDER my skin that then turned into a flat all dark red moist scab still under my skin.
