Sharp stomach pain while eating

Common Questions and Answers about Sharp stomach pain while eating

Avatar m tn I have been experiencing some pain in my upper stomach immediately after eating for about six weeks now. I am male, white and 65 years old. I am diabetic and have been taking metformin, crestor and altace for several years with no ill effects. The pain occurs about 15 to 30 seconds after ingesting food or drink. Fresh fruit and salads seem to cause more intense pain. Antacids do not in any way alleviate the problem. This pain is not at all like acid indigestion or heartburn.

I remember that the day before I ate a rotten cheese cake whom I through after eating part of it. Since then, this pain is persistent. And one more thing; I don’t have any constipation. I would welcome any suggestion.

Avatar m tn I also suffer from severe stomach pain/chest pain , especially after eating, altered bowel movements, just been told it is just ibs but im still not sure that can cause so much pain!lost 40lbs in 2 months!,had ultrasounds, catscan, colonoscopy, endoscope, hida scan, stool test with negative is lapascropy to check for endometrosis in sept. Avatar n tn I too am experiencing this excrutiating pain.. Like a sharp stabbing pain in the left inner thigh.. I would say it's at the centre of the fleshy area about 2 inches below the crotch area.. It's like someone has got a red hot poker and stabbed me in the thigh and twisted it.. It only lasts for a few seconds but it totally knocks me sick! If I am asleep it wakes me up and I almost scream out. I find it terrifying. I'm going to make an appointment to see my GP asap.
Avatar f tn Hi, Once in a great while after eating cereal I get this stabbing center pain in my stomach. I had my gallbladder, pancreas, and liver checked out by ultrasound and all looked good. This happens once in a while and no matter the cereal. Once in a while I would get right shoulder blade pain too (typical gallstone attack symptoms) but again, no one found anything. Today's pain was just the center stabbing stomach pain and that's it. No other referred pain. Ideas of what it could be?
Avatar f tn The rib pain is mostly on the left and it started about a month and half ago then stoped for a few weeks and came back after one night when I felt like something was eating away at my stomach. The pain was sharp and it aswell faded in and out and everytime the pain cam I felt light headed. I did faint a Fay or 2 befor in the bath as well aster standing up to fast. Usualy the rib pain only stay for a minute or 2 but riight now it is constant and has been for like 20-30mintures! What is this???
Avatar m tn No just a pain in lower stomach and my stomach growls alot, I know its gas, but why doesn't it move. Once in awhile I will have sharp pains in my stomach and have to rush to the bathroom. I know thats part of the IBS. But why I get these pains in my stomach only in the morning is strange. My GI doctor just passed it off, like it was nothing. I also noticed that I don't belch that much. Even if I do drink a soda or beer once in a great while, maybe once a year or so.
Avatar n tn Every time I eat, i get a sharp pain in my stomach. This has been going on since as long as I can remember ( since I was little, i'm 23 now ). The pain is feels like a knife is going into my stomach, and is severe.
Avatar n tn I am getting very concerned about upper left stomach pain. It started as a stomach flu, it came and went for about one week. At the end of one week, I got a stomach ache so severe I could barely move. The next day I started vomiting. The vomiting only lasted for one day, but since then I have not been able to eat hardly anything except for toast and bananas.
Avatar n tn It started probably the day after I got home from the hospital, I had a c-section so I was in bed and I felt a sharp hunger type pain below my breast bone(where it is soft).I tried to get up and move around but it hurt to bad and no matter what I did I couldnt sit/stand/lie down to get comfortable, lying down seem to make it worse. Then I didnt have another attack for a few months.About 5 months later they started again, but alot worse.
Avatar f tn I just wondered if you'd looked at the possibility of a link between the stomach pain/nausea and the fludrocortisone? It can cause stomach irritation in people who have sensitive stomachs. I have a similar problem with both dludrocortisone and prednisone, and probably any other steroids. I'm so sorry your son is going through this. I think it's bad enough to be sick like this myself, but it would be so much worse if it were my daughter going through this.
Avatar f tn A few months ago, she was put on Omeprazole and after 2 weeks of bad upper stomach pain, she stopped taking it. The problems have resided a bit, but has had pain and nausea every since. After many tests, all coming out normal, she still has not found an answer. The doctors don't have a clue what is wrong, but she believes the omeprazole caused some sort of infection and will be going on antibiotics this week to see if it will help.
Avatar m tn I experience pain in my sternum while eating or drinking. I have only been eating only soups, "mushy" soft foods or liquids, but I still experience trouble swallowing. I often experience extreme pressure on my "diaphram", and sharp pains in my mid back as the food is being swallowed. I also suffer from gas or belching while I am eating. Upon standing or sitting up right my stomach is distended.
Avatar f tn it starts with sharp pains in my abdomen, usually on one side or in the middle. (not associated with eating) After the pain eases or goes away, then it feels like my stomach is in a hard knot. sometimes I can't even stand up straight. and my stomach/abdomen is tender and sore. The hard knot feeling can last a couple days after the initial pain attack. It almost feels like constipation, but after using milk of mag and using the toilet, the hard/sore feeling in my stomach continues.
Avatar n tn It started about 10 months ago where I would get a sharp pain in my upper left stomach (just beneath the rib cage) after eating. I wouldn't get the pain if I ate just a little bit of food like a bowl of cereal, half sandwich, regular portion size, etc. I'd get the pain if I ate enough food to when I started feeling full (the more I ate and my stomach expanded the worse the pain got). I went to the doctor, he ordered an upper GI series. It came back abnormal but with non specific results.
Avatar f tn The baby is getting big and crushing your stomach and lungs. Trouble breathing was one of my biggest discomforts while pregnant with my son.
Avatar m tn a couple or yrs ago I was sitting in my recliner after eating and all of a sudden a very sharp contractual pain hit me right underneath my left rib cage at the went as fast as it came.I thought no big deal it was someting I ate. the pain came and went a few times but not as sharp.I kinda blew if off.but over time it has become more of a faint dull pain with a little sting every so often.the dullness reminds me that something is there but what I dont know.
Avatar n tn I think I may be experiencing the same thing that you are. I get a very sharp stomach pain followed usually by a very loud gurgle in my lower right abdomen. Sometimes it does not gurgle, however. And those pains are more severe. It seems to me like gas is trying get through, but cannot. I have been fairly successful in eliminating gluten from my diet and that has really helped quite a bit. Not sure if it is stopping the problem but it helps.
Avatar f tn Usually the symptoms of IBS are changes in your bowel movements (how often you are going and what is the consistency of your stool), pain or discomfort, often decrease in pain after having a bowel movement, and sometimes other symptoms like nausea/vomiting/fullness after eating/gas, etc. pain can be felt in many different ways and a stinging and pulling sensation could be the way that you feel pain.
Avatar n tn Have experienced a left to middle burning pain movement resulting in balling up at the middle of the stomach and is an intense sharp burning pain that is incapcitating. Taking deep breath causes pain. Entire stomach feels bloated. Lots of gurgling and grumbling noises all the time. Tender to touch. Relief: eating up to 30 minutes then starts again.
Avatar n tn About 2 years ago I had my gallbladder removed. Since then I have a sharp pain in my upper abdomen the same location of pain when I had my gallbladder. I started to experience diarrhea and pain after eating. My doctor gave my Questan which I tolerate well. My question is how long can I stay on the Questan and what are the long term effects of this drug? The medicine does help the diarrhea but doesn't help the pain.
Avatar f tn For the past few weeks I have been having an almost constant pain in the pit of my stomach. I have been nauseous on and off for this time but no vomiting. Usually this pain is a dull ache - like something is just sitting in there. It is quite uncomfortable. It hurts when I press on it. When I inhale and press my stomach out it also hurts. It does not seem to matter if I eat or not...still there. Occasionally, I get sharp shooting pains through to my back. No fever.
Avatar n tn Now im having worse symtoms and i cant figure out what it could be they dont fit together my symptoms are daily bloating, i was diagnosed lactosr intolerant so i stay away from that food, but my jeans fit well in the moring and as soon as i get out my stomach swells out like im pregnant and its awful pain. I know its gas because as soon as i get to a place i can release its quite evident but i have no idea what is causing this.
Avatar m tn since then i have had 2 PVCS/PACS which have been accompanied by a sharp pain running through the heart along with the beat. the first was the other day when i was lying down watching a movie, i had 1 strong HB that was random and felt like a kick, this powerful one off beat had a sharp pain running through it, like a really long needle was pushed through my heart into my left shoulder blade. the 2nd one happened today when i was sitting in the garden trying to relax.
Avatar n tn I occasionally get stomach pain mid stomach. It starts off dull sort of a burning sensation that gets worse an worse radiates to mid back. Some times the pain makes me nauseous. When I get this pain the only position that seems to help is on my knees with chest touching floor bum in the air lol I must look a sight. when that doesn't help I lightly pat my fists on my back this helps.
