Severe heartburn in early pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Severe heartburn in early pregnancy

heartburn

The worst heartburn I've ever had in my life was in my first 4-7 weeks of pregnancy. It would wake me up at night and I would have to sit and wait for it to calm down. Sometimes eating helped, sometimes drinking a lot of water helped. Once, using a thumper-type massager on my back helped! I took liquid Mylanta (original formula) once, -- even though it is not highly recommended during pregnancy, it is not absolutely forbidden -- and it did help.
Hello, i will be 34 weeks tomorrow and have been suffering bad heartburn since early in my pregnancy. I take tums at night to help me sleep cuz if not omg,i will just keep getting up. They was helping but now that im getting further along im starting to feel like tums is doing nothing for me.:-( i dnt even have to eat anything spicy. This is everyday.
I remember my sister in-law complaining a lot about getting jabbed in the ribs by her son's foot!! Heartburn would be more in the middle of your chest where your esophagus is, and much higher.

Had my second IUI on July 3 and thought I would share my early pregnancy symptoms so far and hope others will as well. I checked other blogs out there and found the responses to be incredibly helpful, here goes: 1dpiui Started vacation today! Hopefully relaxation will help. Had lots of cramps and bloating. At end of day was very bloated, went for a walk and it was uncomfortable very bloated. Felt like I had to pee all the time. Went to bed, laid down for a while and felt a little better.
I've been on them since almost the beginning. Not heartburn started early this pregnancy! The pills are my bff's!!
Hi Ladies- Has anyone experienced insomnia in early pregnancy? I am 10dpo and for the last 8 days or so I CAN'T sleep! Nothing helps, this has NEVER been a problem for me. Lately I sleep an hour or two here and there but most of the night I'm tossing and turning. Just wondering if it's an early pregnancy symptom.
I don't know if I'm pregnant yet, but has anyone had heartburn in early pregnancy? Today I had really a bad burning sensation in my stomach and I have never had heartburn in my life. Also, a couple of days ago I had an intense tight stretching/pulling sensation in my lower belly that lasted more than an hour. And last night, I had sharp pains low on my left side for about 30 minutes. Has anyone had any of these symptoms early in their pregnancy?
I don't know if my birth control has anything to do with it at all, but I figured I would make sure I added that in there. I'm also suffering from severe hot flashes, irritability, and other general PMS symptoms including cramps and others that I've never really had before. I'm constantly dry (skin, vagina, eyes, mouth, etc) no matter how hydrated I keep myself.
I've had severe acid reflux this whole pregnancy. If I let my stomach get empty it gets worse. I make sure I eat every few hours. I take 150mg Zantac every 12 hours. Sometimes I take it early because I'm in so much pain. Certain foods do make it worse. You just have to learn which ones trigger it for you more than others. Try not to eat greasy food they make it worse.
I'm waiting impatiently. It is hard to wait. I'm 36 weeks, and in severe pain with kidney stones. I want my baby to be "fully cooked" when he arrives, though. I also don't want to have surgery while pregnant, but it is an option I can consider after he is born. I want him to come so badly so I can hold him and my pain can end, but I'm not doing anything to get him to come faster.
my dr told it's a yeast infection and just to take monistat...so call your doc, it might be the same thing. it's very common in early pregnancy...hope this helps!
Well this time around i havent been sick the first time, i am extremely short of breath at times, bloated, breast tenderness, frequent urination, heartburn and severe moodiness! hopefully this just means nothing...but still scared! 5/18/10 - So wow...this pregnancy i am SOOOO nauseated...spent all day yesterday in the bathroom, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and now FEVER :( Dr says just push fluids and that all should be okay,....i have absolutely NO appetite...
I've been getting severe diarrhea like cramps for 2 days now. I never go to bathroom with these cramps but they seem to be gettin worse. I'm very gassy with them tho. Is this normal at 33 weeks. Nd has anyone experienced this? I have had 3 children but my contractions were never cramps. I have had bad achy constant back pain for over a week now but my dr chalked it up to be a pulled muscle without checking me or monitoring contractions.
Cramping, as long as it's not extreme or severe or accomined by bleeding, is very common in early pregnancy. Try not to worry or concern yourself over it too much. It only becomes an issue when it is extreme, IE you're doubled over in pain or it's stabbing on one side.
I usually take some tums with a little bit of milk and make sure I sit up afterwards. I have severe nausea too and the heartburn always makes me get sick again. It's common in pregnancy... but I know how bad it *****!
About 3 days after the bleeding stopped I got a few pregnancy tests and they all came out very clearly pregnant!!!! Just so everybody knows. I had cramping all throughout my early pregnancy. I hope this helps clarify and questions that somebody may have. Unfortunately I lost my baby at 10 weeks but I found out today that I may be pregnant again!!!!! SO wish me luck and lots of babydust to all of you!!!
This is my second pregnancy since August of 2006 (I lost my first one at 4.5 months in December 2006) and I must say, when they say all pregnancies are different, they in fact are surely right! With my first baby, I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was over 3 months because I have PCOS and I hadn't had a period in 2 years. I went in for an ovarian ultrasound, and my doctor found a baby.
Weird that severe esophagitis is gone in a little over 4 weeks. The thing is it still feels like food and pills are getting stuck in my esophagus but I am going to be patient and let the dexilant work (hopefully) and see what the biopsy results are at my next gastro visit. And hopefully the burning will abate. Thanks so much again Selma. I truly appreciate your help!
At times the hunger pangs due to acidity wakes up a person in the wee hours of night or early in the morning. Uncontrolled, this can cause vomiting. Treatment is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes. You will need to take a combination of medications (under medical supervision) like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief.
Yes. I always got headaches as an early sign of pregnancy. Within the first week or 10 days after conceiving the headaches started! You might want to ask your doctor about taking meds. Mine said to start with Tylenol and if that didn't work I could even take Excedrin if I had to. But I'd definitely ask him/her about it :) Congrats on the pregnancy!!
I second 40s mama...I had no symptoms that early either. In fact, I was blessed with none of the yucky symptoms (nausea, swelling) but I did have terrible heartburn (I ate tums like candy). Good luck, let us know what happens!
When I was pregnant, I remember going to the grocery store, and smelling each and every smell of every food item in the store the instant I walked in, from the coffee to the bananas. I have never been so sick in my life.

Does anyone else's look like this and if you started this early in your pregnancy when did they subside? The tohught of going through another 9 mos of this is somewhat unbearable! Also, I'm on epeilepsy medication which I don't believe to be related at all (nor does my ob or neurologist). If anyone could shed some light on their duration of hives and if there's been a true concern about its effect on baby, I'd love to know.
