You do know that not all of the drugs you mentioned are ssris. Effexor is an snri, nortriptyline is a tricyclic. Fetzima is a newer snri. Remeron is a tetracyclic and is a notorious weight gainer. My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back.

I would recommend you speak to your primary care provider about the possibility of using an alternative medication to the TCA, possibly Wellbutrin or Serzone. I would not stop taking any of your medications without the express guidance of your doctor or prescriber. Also, Lyrica, marketed by Pfizer Inc.

Usually if you have panic attacks, and are irritable, have OCD and are depressed, an SSRI would be better than Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin can make panic attacks, irritability, anger and OCD even worse). I have tried paxil, effexor, wellbutrin, zoloft, and lexapro. I gained weight from all of them. I really have gad and not much depression. I wish I could just take ativan but of course can't. I go to the dr. on Tuesday and would like to get a prescription. I am currently taking 5htp and doesn't seem to help much. What do I do?

Wellbutrin is stimulating, you may want to discuss this with your doctor. It may be the culprit with your insomnia. Take care.

Hi there, I just finished reading your comments. Are you taking any prescription medications of any kind ? Some prescription medications have a light headed feeling as a side effect. You said you have had phases of depression. During those phases of depression, did your doctor prescribe antidepressants? Many years ago, one doctor put me on a certain kind of antidepressant. I took that antidepressant for several years. Then for whatever reason that antidepressant stopped working for me.

You're right about Wellbutrin. It can be more stimulating for some people. Maybe you can start on a very small dose to help with your depression. Ask you Dr about trying the lowest dose first to see how well you do on it.

How long did you try the wellbutrin for? It usually takes a good 4-6 weeks in order to see the full benefits and one of the side affects is hightened anxiety. I had it myself but I perservered through it with the help of this forum and some klonopin as needed. For the most part, you are going to have side affects with anything you take including the SSRIs.

Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, amitryptiline, Paxil, trazadone, Serzone...all but MAOIs. They either had no effect or the averse effects outweighed the positive (zoloft kept me afloat by making me numb to all feelings altogether). Finally, in 2003, I was in a study for treatment resistant depression and Lexapro quite literally saved my life. I was later switched to Celexa for financial reasons. I had no problems transitioning and have taken it for the past six years.

There are many choices for anxiety and it takes trial and error to get the right combo. I suggest Nefazodone (Serzone) in a light dose at first, ramp to 150mg BID, Serzone doesn't have any any of the side effects of Paxil. There are known liver side effects for Serzone though and must be carefully considered with current liver function + follow liver functions while on it.

i was on 60 mg of celexa, the maximum dose and did fine. try out the new medication. its not like you're risking any serious long term side effects like tardive dyskinesia, which is associated with antipsychotics.

I am 28Yr old male in good shape other than my depressive and anxious thoughts. I visited a pdoc and was initially started on lowest dose of lexapro. Wellbutrin quickly added on for motivation. This mix seemed to work for me all except the ED I was experiencing from the Lex. This is a big problem for me. I then tried generic Remeron for about six weeks along w the generic wellbutrin. Side effects of the remeron I experienced made me very drowsy as well as an increased appetite at night.

Have any of you had Wellbutrin prescribed? My PCP just wrote me a script for it but I have read it is contraindicated in patients with cirrhosis. Thanks in advance.

She wants me off any sort of benzo except for possibly .5 mg to use as PRN and to switch the Serzone to Celexa. The Serzone has black box warnings about liver issues and is banned in many countires. But, overall it did give me my life back. There seems to be trend in my area against the use of benzos. I am hoping to hang around here a bit as we slowly step through this process. The wean down from Klonopin began three nights ago with generic Remeron being the subsitue.

Has anyone heard of or seen any studies about any drugs affecting viral load? I was wondering what other people have heard. I saw somewhere on a post on this Forum that they took Viagra during treatment. because of its affects on them. I took it occasionally myself because during treatment my HGB was so low I think it affected me. Anyway it helped and I was wondering if it could affect my chances of SVR. After stopping serzone for anxiety, my husband had a reaction of severe insomnia after trying Lexapro for 3 days. His doctor suggested bipolar and put him on Zyprexa but is weaning him down gradually. He's on 7.5 mg currently. What side effects can we expect if he doesn't really have bipolar (which is our opinion) from this medication? We know the most common ones, but what if he is not truly bipolar? I can't wait for him to get off of it, but he is sleeping soundly again.

As to adding the wellbutrin, this is usually done when there is weight gain or sexual dysfunction, because wellbutrin is a stimulating antidepressant -- not usually for primary anxiety.
