My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back. An alternative to serzone is wellbutrin.

The only cause I thought later that might have been was I was taking generic serzone (since they took the name brand off the market for liver damage), but I'm not sure if the medicine I tooke was why it happened. It was said to be unusual to have one on my liver by a doctor, but not harmful. It is a collection of blood vessels.
Our 39 year old daughter is in the hospital with liver failure--cirrhosis, fatty liver, and sludge in her spleen. She was admitted on 6/10/13. For the first five days she was incoherent, then gradually she began to be able to communicate. She still, eight days later, isn't sure what year it is or which hospital she is in. She's been told her condition is grave, but we are not certain she understands. They are trying to bring her liver function up to 10% of normal operability.

She was taken to the emergency room yesterday morning and has been admitted into Intensive care. She has liver failure. She is yellow (yellow skin and eyes). She has swollen legs and stomach. .My brother 46 was given 2 months to live due to liver failure caused by alcohol and Hep B . Scared him a bit, he was put in the hospital for 4 weeks, and got better real quick. That was March 2011. He started drinking again right after he got out of the hospital. It's hard to believe but he is still working in a bar and walking. I don't know how he does it. His stomach is very swollen, he can't eat and doesn't sleep much, but he' still going!!!
My concern is that I have been taking 4,500mg of Acetiminoophen for two days straight (prior to this I had lower dose acetiminophen tabs. Will my liver be able to take this or just how much over the max dose of 4000 do you have to take and for how long before damge is done? What are the common signs? At present feeling fine, but wicked anxious about going over 4000mg. Some reassurance to calm me down if possible but if hard truth is really the only truth don't sugar coat it.
After stopping serzone for anxiety, my husband had a reaction of severe insomnia after trying Lexapro for 3 days. His doctor suggested bipolar and put him on Zyprexa but is weaning him down gradually. He's on 7.5 mg currently. What side effects can we expect if he doesn't really have bipolar (which is our opinion) from this medication? We know the most common ones, but what if he is not truly bipolar? I can't wait for him to get off of it, but he is sleeping soundly again.
If there is occlusion of the common bile duct, then this will also cause fever with chills. Cirrhosis of liver too presents with chills and fever. Liver failure in itself is tough for the body to handle and on and off there are chills and a mild rise of temperature as the body tries to fight for survival. It is a strain on the body.
A new infection causing fever and chills would normally raise the temperature to much higher levels.

I'm sorry but there is no way for me to know the answer to your question. Was your son awaiting tp ?
Paracentisis is an option that is commonly used to control ascites in those who are resistant to diuretics. Even so, tapping carries some risks.
The first sign that the liver is damaged is typically a pain in the upper-right abdominal area or tenderness near the liver. The liver will be swollen. Following this, liver failure can occur. Signs of liver failure are jaundice (yellow eyes and skin), dark urine, confusion, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), bleeding, nausea, and vomiting. During this stage liver blood test abnormalities will show up on blood tests.
If the damage to the liver is not stopped, the liver gradually loses its ability to carry out its normal functions. This is called liver failure, sometimes referred to as end-stage liver disease. At stage 4 you are a stage before end stage.
My symptoms are acites (fluid retention in abdominal area), edema (fluid rention in legs), protal hypertention of the esophagus level 2.

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad you found us but very sorry to hear about your condition and pain. My heart goes out to you.
I suggest you see a PMP that may be better equipped to answer your question and find a solution.....Or the physician that is treating your liver failure. I'm sorry but I do not have first hand information regarding liver failure and the challenges it presents.
Now, I got bothered with his yellow eyes due to liver failure and since it is a failure what I’m praying is that it wouldn’t progressed that fast and that he wouldn’t suffer that much too.
We will check on with his doctors once we got back to the hospital because he has one for each – cardio, diabetes, lungs, and liver.
I am looking for a good support group my fiancé has liver failure, I knew this when we first started dating. We have been together for almost 4 years, He just had a blood test that showed his results were 5 times the normal, I am not dealing with it well, He is 47. He is a wonderful man, He is not showing any symptoms. I guess I was blind to the fact he's dying, I don't want to loose him soon.
