After stopping serzone for anxiety, my husband had a reaction of severe insomnia after trying Lexapro for 3 days. His doctor suggested bipolar and put him on Zyprexa but is weaning him down gradually. He's on 7.5 mg currently. What side effects can we expect if he doesn't really have bipolar (which is our opinion) from this medication? We know the most common ones, but what if he is not truly bipolar? I can't wait for him to get off of it, but he is sleeping soundly again.

My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back. An alternative to serzone is wellbutrin.

Thank you for your suggestion - I checked out the Serzone when you first suggested it as a possible medication but it was banned here in Australia - I have since checked it out again and it is still on the banned list.

There are known liver side effects for Serzone though and must be carefully considered with current liver function + follow liver functions while on it.

Does Serzone cause weight gain and how does it affect your sex drive. This is my first time on this forum and looking for some answers.

She wants me off any sort of benzo except for possibly .5 mg to use as PRN and to switch the Serzone to Celexa. The Serzone has black box warnings about liver issues and is banned in many countires. But, overall it did give me my life back. There seems to be trend in my area against the use of benzos. I am hoping to hang around here a bit as we slowly step through this process. Here is some information for you. Tricyclic Antidepressants ( ie amitriptyline, doxepin, nortriptyline, etc) can cause general gains of weight of 0.4 to 4.12 kg/month ( over the course of 2 to 6 months). I would recommend you speak to your primary care provider about the possibility of using an alternative medication to the TCA, possibly Wellbutrin or Serzone. I would not stop taking any of your medications without the express guidance of your doctor or prescriber.

with no deppression i am now feeling deppressed and i think it is from a melatonine/5-htp combo, i know it is a seratonine uptake drug but i was on Serzone for 17 days and it made me extremely suicidal so could 5-htp be the cause?

I am trying to wean myself off of the 1-3 mg of klonopin I take at bedtime, to sleep, for longstanding insomnia. Tonight I am going to try to take 1/2 mg,and see if I can sleep at all.I pray I will. I am convinced that klonopin,which seems so great in the very beginning, for severe anxiety and panic states, well I am convinced that it is POISON. In my internet researches I have discovered that it can cause a profound general deterioration in health and function.

This drug is for the GAD, but not if it's just for the insomnia. If it helps with the GAD it will apparently help with the insomnia, but antidepressants aren't sleep aids. As the above suggests, melatonin is for sleep. A lot of people are put on drugs that have an unwanted side effect of making people sleepy, but that doesn't make it a good choice for sleeplessness.

On Zoloft 25 mg for 3 weeks. Initial terrible insomnia is getting better but still very tired. Sleeping 12-14 ours daily. Is this normal? Will it go away? Taking med in the morning and going back to sleep till 1-2 pm now. Will taking it at night help with the daytime fatigue or will it make insomnia worse? Will the fatigue make depression and anxiety worse if I cannot cope when school starts? Is Zoloft right for me? Should I be patient and wait longer?

My doc put me on 50 mg of Trazodone a week ago for insomnia, Its not doing ****, I took one at 10pm now its going on 2:30am, same story all week, How long does it take for this to work? I don't feel anything from it. Ive tried Ambien too, that did nothing Id just wake up 2 hours after taking it , then be ready for the sun to come up, so frustrating. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem first starting out, did it start working eventually???

If so, does it work for you, did it take a couple of weeks for it to help you? Any good or bad side effects? Currently taking 100mg for insomnia, but does not seem to be helping, only on it for 10 days. Thanks.

My doctor prescribed trazodone 100mg (I think it said mg) for my insomnia that I have suffered with for the last 15 years due to a thyroid problem I had years ago. I took it for the first time last night, but I did not fall asleep or even come close to falling asleep. I took it at 8:30pm and went to bed at 9pm, but ended up getting out of bed at 10pm because I could not sleep. The only difference I feel is a huge headache this morning.

I use to take kava tea every night before sleeping, and it helped me a lot for insomnia. It's a good stuff.

I started on antidepressants when I was a teenager. In the span of 6 years I was on an entire host of antidepressants, with an intramuscular injection (during a hospital stay) being the only thing that made a noticeable difference. I did take Prozac, 20 mg and Serzone before it was removed from the market- for depression, but that was when it was mostly depression and I did not notice the anxiety portion. When I went back on Prozac a year ago after 3 days I had such anxiety that I almost ended up in the er. That is why the doc said to start slow at 10 mg. I started at 5mg. I think that the first day, taking 10mg, I had a serotoniun surge, so I cut back to 5.

A friend of mine had been taking the drug , Zoloft, for a month and she told me how much it was helping her. I asked my doctor if I could try Zoloft instead of Serzone. My doctor gave me a prescription for Zoloft . The product name of Zoloft is Sertraline.. I only took it for two days. To say it didn't agree with me was an understatement. I called my doctor and asked her to switch me back to the Serzone which she did. Zoloft made me feel horrible, majorily anxious.

I only took Trazadone for 3 days for insomnia. First day 50mg, second day 100mg., third day 150mg. due to my severe insomnia as I am going through hormonal change. After the third day I quit cold turkey because my heart palpitation was so bad. It has been 4 days I am off Trazadone , but I am still having insomnia and feeling very nervous and anxious. If anyone knows, please help.
