After stopping serzone for anxiety, my husband had a reaction of severe insomnia after trying Lexapro for 3 days. His doctor suggested bipolar and put him on Zyprexa but is weaning him down gradually. He's on 7.5 mg currently. What side effects can we expect if he doesn't really have bipolar (which is our opinion) from this medication? We know the most common ones, but what if he is not truly bipolar? I can't wait for him to get off of it, but he is sleeping soundly again.
My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back. An alternative to serzone is wellbutrin.

Does Serzone cause weight gain and how does it affect your sex drive. This is my first time on this forum and looking for some answers.
t like xanex or believe in it for long term. However, some people (like me) find that xanex is the only drug that helps for anxiety and panic attacks.
Are you saying that you are taking this medication strictly for blood pressure? If that is the case, the doctor might want to wean you SLOWLY off this medication and use something else that you haven't tried before to help your blood pressure. One thing that I find that helps blood pressure and is less addicting is Trazadone.
yea I have anxiety ,but I dont know if the anxiety and pills caused this or my heart acting up caused the anxiety ???????? I mean who wouldnt be scared Im on xanax 4 mg ,200mg lopressor , prilosec daily
I have taken all the benzos , had buspar ,serzone,paxil (it sucked) fell my life has been taken over by fear . now I cant sleep and I want to eat all the time .last month I hardly ate at all ...scared sorry I just needed to vent .
It started off as only visual symptoms, limited to my left eye. Just before I went on Serzone for depression, they started to get worse. I would see flashes/streaks of light, ghosting, halo's around backlit objects, increased floaters, the odd inability to maintain focus when looking anyone in the eye. And not for nervous reasons. Over the last few years, the previous symptoms have evolved into new ones which follow.

Well for the past two years i've been suffering from sudden periods of nervousness anxiousness, and well sudden loss of breath this happens like once a day everyday. i cant sleep at night im scared to fall to fall asleep it makes me panic i start feeling if im going to die. about my heart beat i think that somethings wrong too!! i get massive headaches that last for strong periods of time sometimes i think im going crazy.

Tricyclic Antidepressants ( ie amitriptyline, doxepin, nortriptyline, etc) can cause
general gains of weight of 0.4 to 4.12 kg/month ( over the course of 2 to 6 months). I would recommend you speak to your primary care provider about the possibility of using an alternative medication to the TCA, possibly Wellbutrin or Serzone. I would not stop taking any of your medications without the express guidance of your doctor or prescriber.
In fact, in most studies it had no more of these effects than a sugar pill (placebo.) Unfortunately, it can be associated with an increase in anxiety which, for many patients with mood disorders, is a difficulty they already have and do not want to get worse. Other side effects include sleep difficulties and increase in blood pressure.

Many years ago I had to take Ambien, and Serzone for a period of time in order to get my sleep regulated. I had this "hypnic jerk" which would jerk me awake from sleep every time I dozed off. I was up for almost a week. Amben worked like magic back then. Eventually the Serzone took over and I could sleep without the ambien. Eventually I cut the Serzone and was still sleeping fine.
The only cause I thought later that might have been was I was taking generic serzone (since they took the name brand off the market for liver damage), but I'm not sure if the medicine I tooke was why it happened. It was said to be unusual to have one on my liver by a doctor, but not harmful. It is a collection of blood vessels.
I am convinced that klonopin,which seems so great in the very beginning, for severe anxiety and panic states, well I am convinced that it is POISON. In my internet researches I have discovered that it can cause a profound general deterioration in health and function.THAT is what has happened to me since I started taking it in late January 2008.....I have had a profound physical deterioration. This drug- if you google it,and read every thing, you will try to wean yourself off of it gradually.
My Dr put me back on Serzone (which I had previously taken for years along with Welbutrin for depression) but after a couple weeks I quit taking it because all I did was sleep. Over the past 13 years I have tried at least 15 different meds but had to keep changing because I got such bad side effects. I stuck with the Serzone and Welbutrin because I didn't with those. After I changed jobs and didn't have the stress, I came off them.
