Sertraline vs paxil

Common Questions and Answers about Sertraline vs paxil

zoloft

9475243 tn?1405300275 Sertraline has a higher dose for working than Paxil because the drug are different. Sertraline usually starts its therapeutic dose at 100mg. Some do well at 50. Some are highly sensitive to things and absorb them really well while others don't. It usually takes about 4-6 weeks to notice positive effects, although some do notice them earlier. Side effects, though, start right away.
Avatar m tn I went home and continued experiencing these symptoms and finally went back to the doctor and told him I want to be put back on Paxil. This time he had me cut back down to 50 mg of Sertraline for 2 days and then jump to Paxil 25 mg for two days and then up to my usual 50. This was around 2 weeks ago and those symptoms are still sticking around.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tapered Zoloft while in the middle of a benzo taper (but on hold from the taper?) I have been tapering valium since June last year (did crossover from Klonopin/Ashton method) and started Zoloft in June (25mg) and upped it to 50mg in August. I have held the valium taper since August due to diarrhea and decided to taper zoloft but now I am not sure which to taper first. I am at 6.5mg valium down from 12.5mg (was c/t in August also from 9mg and reinstated to 7mg almost immediately).
Avatar m tn I too notice a difference in how I feel taking Zoloft vs. Sertraline. I like Sertraline better though because I don't feel as numbed out and my sex drive is not affected.
Avatar n tn You're talking about Tamoxifen and Paxil used at the same time, yes? It has been proven that certain SSRI's which is what Paxil is do stop the benefits of tamoxifen. From Pharmacist's Letter's: July 2009, vol 25, no. 7 "You'll see new warnings not to combine tamoxifen with certain SSRIs..paroxetine, fluoxetine, and sertraline. .... Women have a higher risk of breast cancer recurrence if they take tamoxifen along with paroxetine, fluoxetine, or sertraline...
Avatar f tn Now in 2012 I stopped the one I was on at the time (Effexor) and switched quickly to sertraline because I was diagnosed with heart failure (due to chemo that damaged my heart at age ten) and SNRIs apparently are cardiotoxic. But as you can imagine the Sertraline wasn't working and I did a bit of research (doctors of heart duno much about antidepressants and vice versa so don't like to give advice on what they don't know!
Avatar f tn I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 2 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I'm off work today as I'm so depressed. All I want to do is cry and lay in bed. How long does it take for Zoloft to kick in? I have been on it for 4 weeks now. ..shouldn't I be feeling better by now?
Avatar n tn Sabrina, yes paxil, like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.
Avatar m tn Am currently on sertraline 100mg, which helps for anxiety and depression but not PE. Have tried start and stop technique's (edging) for about a year with no improvement. Myself and my partner do not have relationship problems, but she is not always supportive on the PE front, some of her comments have made the situation much worse What would you recommend?
Avatar f tn Boy, never heard of that one. As for Celexa, it depends on the person. It sedated me some but nothing like Paxil and imipramine did. But I've read that others have been agitated by Paxil. These drugs are just weird.
Avatar f tn Ive been switched from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 5 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I've went to the doctors yesterday because I feel terrible terrible - headaches, feeling incredibly depressed and crazy!
Avatar m tn SSRIs often interact with the metabolism of lots of medications. Paroxetine (Paxil), Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Citalopram/Escitalopram (Celexa, Lexapro) are inhibitors of CYP2D6 - the enzyme responsible for metabolizing lots of medications. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) is inhibiting another enzyme. Sertraline (Zoloft) do not have this side effect, and Venlafaxine (Effexor, a SNRI) is also perhaps a good choice, as itdood said.
Avatar n tn I am a 17 year old female. I'm 5'5, and weigh 230lbs. I take Lurasidone, Sertraline, birth control and Feramax. I have to take Lurasidone at 9:30 pm, and it requires me to eat an extra 400 calories with it per day. It is an antipsychotic usually prescribed for schizophrenia, but I don't have schizo so idk why I'm on it. Sertraline is an antidepressant and since I started taking these two medicines I've gained 85 lbs.
1219946 tn?1266758528 I have been on paxil for about 9 yrs. Last dosage was 40mg. /day. I also had xanax .5 mg. for emergencys. I changed doctors due to new inurance and the feeling that whenever I went to my Psychiatrist He'd ask how I was /never listened and just wrote Rx's. I mentioned to my new Dr. that I gained about 30 lbs during the treatment and she told me it was a big weight gainer. So she weened me off paxil and now I'm on Wellbutrin 200 mg./day.
Avatar f tn You say you only took Paxil for 7 days? Is that right? You don't say how long you took the gabapentin or the Zoloft. If you only took them a short time, and if you only took Paxil 7 days, then it's unlikely you're suffering withdrawal, though it's possible. If you were on the Zoloft for any length of time, it could be withdrawal from the Zoloft. You can also get withdrawal from quitting gabapentin abruptly. You need to slowly taper up on these drugs and slowly taper off.
Avatar m tn So I consulted My psychiatrist. He stopped paxil and prescribed zoloft (sertraline) 150 mg a day. morning dose 50 mg and night dose 100 mg for 15 days. what will he prescribe after 15 days that's I don't know but I want to know that can suddenly dose be changed like this?
94902 tn?1330479667 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.
Avatar n tn i am 7 months pregnant going through alot of anxiety and tourette going on through pregnancy each day its worse and i cant breath at all the doctor send me sertraline-oral zoloft 50 mg but she told me to take half am scared it might harm the baby or she could be born with problems i dont know what to do i need help and advice on this medecacion is it safe for my baby and will this help me calm my anxiety and to breath better?
Avatar m tn For the pass 4 or 5 days now been having more panic attacks lately for no reason and I feel at times the paxil is working but I look back at the pill meaning the Paxil and say that it's not working on me only making it worse with attacks for me.
Avatar m tn Also, the only one SSRI who work in the past for my panic disorder is the Paxil... but hte Paxil do nothing for the social anxiety, like all the antidepressant meds I try... anyway, the main problem is that I try to be back on The Paxil at least 10 times in 2010 and wasn't able to tolerate more than 1 mg at the time... I had increase anxiety to the point that I had to go to the ER... So I don't know what do to?
415867 tn?1323365503 I have anxiety issues and have tried fluoxetine, sertraline, (both led to decreased sex drive and lack of orgasm) and now escitalopram (which helped the sexual aspect but still gaining). I am also on requip 0.5mg for my RLS and iron 325mg for my low iron and ferritin. When I have increase in anxiety i take lorazepam which is usually at night for me right before bed. Do any of these combo of drugs increase wt gain? I just don't know where to turn as for as the increasing in wt.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Sertraline (Zoloft) by my doctor. I was told to take half a pill, 25mg. This was a couple months ago. I haven't started taking it yet because I am taking an anti-arrhythmia drug called Pacerone (Amiodarone). I've had two doctors tell me that such a small dose of Zoloft won't interact with Amiodarone. But my other big worry is if it will make my anxiety and panic worse. I've read many posts here where people tried Zoloft and had to stop because it made them worse.
Avatar f tn Ten years ago I woke up one day with neck, shoulder back and rib pain. My stomach muscles also ached as a result. My body feels stiff and awkward, even just sitting still is painful, never mind walking etc. I feel on edge, jumpy, irritable and anxious. These symptoms are 24/7, nothing gets rid of them and they never change. My doctors told me it is psychosomatic or anxiety, but I find it hard to believe that it could cause such consistent symptoms.
