Seroquel with ativan

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel with ativan

seroquel

So i am day 10 of being sober off of a 6 year vicodin habit of 40 tabs of 750mg a day and cant get more than 3 hours of sleep a night. I just got a script from my doc for Seroquel and he says it will help with my sleep and anxiety. But he says it will be about 3-4 days of feeling pretty poor. I am feeling better every day and the last thing i want to do is go through 4 days of feeling like c r a p. I have tried Lunesta, melatonin and benadryl with no luck.
It is a good drug to keep people calm without knocking them out with stronger narcotics like valium, ativan or xanax (although those are usually prescribed along with any psych med). It is non-narcotic and non-addictive but people must be weaned off of it, just like antidepressants. Also, people who take the drug for a long period of time run a risk for a side effect called tardive disconesia (TD).
I have depression and anxiety aalong with BPD and worked very hard with my doctor to find a med combo that would work for me. We finally settled on Lexapro 40 mgs. and Seroquel 300 mgs a day. I was doing great on this plan until January the first when medicaid in my state changed their formulary and will no longer pay for either of these drugs. Now I am on 60mgs of Celexa a day and my anxiety is through the roof. I cannot even function.
it's not addictive but something like seroquel may be a better choice for someone her age with restlessness after a stroke.
I've been on allot of medications for bi-polar, including lithium (which gravely affected my stomache), but now I'm on lexapro, seroquel, and temazapan. The seroquel with the temazapan helps me to sleep well, and I don't go thru the tremendous effects of anxiety (expecially when you feel like you are losing your breath with no known reason to do so), but I have gained allot of weight, and I don't eat that much. I have read that seroquel is not all that good.
I have always taken regular release Seroquel, 450mg at bedtime for a few years now. My new psych dr wants me to try Seroquel XR - extended release. I have been having problems with my anxiety disorder - panic attacks which are new, and with my moods cycling rapidly. I am not keen on taking the Xanax for anxiety, but I do when absolutely necessary. She said that some people have reported an anti-anxiety effect that carries through into the daytime when the Seroquel XR is taken at bedtime.
It's a good reason to get off seroquel because it has been proven that it can lead to diebetic and weight gain issues.. I too am trying to come off it, because I HAVE gained excessive weight without any reason other then attributed to this medicine. It works great for my anxiety, but I have to try an alternative. I read from someone that they are taking effexor and busprone ( which I have been on the busprone); I wish you the best in you search with your physciatrist.
So far I've tried (on seperate occasions) Xanax (can't remember the dosage), 2mg Ativan, 10mg Valium for anxiety with no real results. So we tried sedatives (again on seperate occasions) 8mg Rozerem, 3mg Lunesta, and 10mg Ambien. Nothing has put me to sleep or kept me asleep. My doctor (and psychologist) now thinks Seroquel (100mg or 200mg) may be the answer. Anyone out there have any experience with this medication on a one time only basis?
Do you need to continue with the Ativan since your Lexapro is working so well? If you need help with sleep, have you consider another choice of drugs like a sleep aid?
I have previously taken at various different times, Celxa, Lexapro, Effexor, Cymbalta, Klonopin, ativan, wellbutrin and trazadone. I recently saw a new Dr and he put me on Seroquel xr 50 mg to be taken at night. He said to still use the klonopin as needed. I suffer from depression, anxiety, insommnia and he believes I am bipolar.
im hoping the seroquel xr will help me sleep, b/c remeron no longer makes me sleepy nor helps with anxiety or appetite. My anxiety is very bad right now and I need sleep. SOOO sleep deprived. Hopefully this seroquel xr 50mg will help with insomnia, anxiety and appetite soon.
Seroquel is not an Anti Depressant - it does have some limited AD properties but it will not work as a true anti depressant - its used as a mood stabiliser which may be all you need but it depends on the level of depression you have right now. The best thing to do, as always, is ask your Psychiatrist the question - if the depression is severe you most likely need to be on an Anti Depressant as an adjunct to the Mood Stabiliser.
i have a CPAP for non-obstructive apnea and had a recent sleep study which recorded a confused panic episode with negative brain and oxygen results. The seroquel is sedating but confusing. BUT:I have had no bad effects from the wellbutrin withdrawal since ending the wellbutrin except this week--is it wellbutrin withdrawal? I have just moved and will start my new job next week. i have had several severe nocturnal episodes this week, so started taking the seroquel more regularly--~25mg/day.
When I hit a depression all gloves are off when it comes to sleep, so I add ativan. Ativan will help with the legs at night, and I like it, I only use it when needed. My pdoc said the drugs that are specifically for restless leg syndrome don't always have the nicest side effects, so she wouldn't put me on them. Have you had the RLS since starting the Seroquel, or did it just start when your doses went up?
The plan is to go back to a small dosage of Seroquel if it happens but with the severity of the withdrawal side effects I just went through I might bring your suggestions to my psychiatrist!!!!!! Tonight I had a HUGE breakthrough, I started to doze in front of the tv!!! After weeks of not being able to sleep this is good news.
Actually...I just wanted to clarify something.....usual dosage is not 2-3 mg a day. Most docs try to keep people at a max of 1 mg daily (either in one or combined doses, as it usually is prescribed on an "as needed" basis. I took Ativan "as needed" for years...and it worked great for me. I never had issues with tolerance or withdrawal b/c I only needed it daily for a short period of time...and then just here and there until my AD would kick in.
Hey Guys, Do any of you know the difference in these benzos, like which one is supposed to do what and what is stronger and less strong, etc? I've taken Ativan for anxiety as needed, and my doc mentioned switching to klonopin or xanax since the ativan doesnt work that great anymore...can anyone help?
Just got some seroquel today and im a little iffy about it. Im currently taking 25 mg of zoloft, 1mg of ativan as needed, mostly for panic attacks, 1 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide a day for blood pressure, and now they want me to use 1 25 mg tab of seroquel at bedtime. Im only 23 and hate to think i need all of these meds, but when im not doing what the docs say i do feel worst. Im gonna try one pill tonite and decide if i need it i guess? Any Suggestions.
hi, my pdoc is trying to help me with a complicated mood situation that's *real* stubborn. he wants me to take some seroquel xr and i agreed because i am trying to please everyone, inc. me. when your anxiety and depression are too high-octane for ADs and benzos, as you may know, sometimes they add seroquel XR to help, esp. if extreme anxiety and depression are dis-integrating your thoughts a bit as well. happens to the best of us!
I've been taking Lexapro at a dose of 40mg and also Ativan PRN for the last 5 months. Before that, I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar disorder and was being treated with 800mg of Seroquel XR daily, 4mg of Klonopin, and 150 of Effexor XR both daily as well. I went through Hell going cold turkey off the Seroquel, while weening from Effexor. I traded the Klonopin off for Ativan and weened it down from 2mg daily to now taking it as needed (generally .5 daily or every other day.
I agree that if you really want to try a new med now, I would recommend either just sticking with the Klonopin (with perhaps with a dosage increase) and Ativan, or would try another SSRI. IMO, Seroquel is kind of an "overkill" when it comes to treating anxiety. The situations in where I saw Seroquel be beneficial was in patients with more than one psych diagnosis. If you haven't already, post in our Chiari group, and provide a link to this thread, and ask for their input.
i dont fall asleep easily. thats when my psychiatric nurse moved me on to geodon then seroquel along with risperal. both of these i find not very tolerable at all. with seroquel i will sleep very sound though i might suffer some bad hallucinations getting there. and i will oversleep with it. with geodon i will sleep ok, get to sleep easy enough, though when i wake up i dont want to get out of bed.
The mental health ctr. he goes to won't give him ativan or xanax because they say they're controlled substances. Is there anything else I can ask for. Going crazy myself.
I have BP2 Disorder which manifests itself with cycling with the sun. But it's not just seasonal; it's daily. If it is overcast, I'm depressed but as soon as the sun peaks through, I start to become agitated-manic. It's been a rough couple of weeks; the cycling just never seems to end. I am on 225mgs of Lamictal, 1600mgs of Neurontin and 1.5mgs of Klonopin. I have Xanax XR as a PRN and had too take that, along with 5 melatonin and 3 Benadrtyl to sleep last night; ridiculous...
Still feel nauseous, muscle pain all over, dizziness, difficulty with speech, light headache. Need to make sure I drink a lot more fluids which will help deal with the headache problem. Didn't go the gym today, I needed to rest. Walked to StLeonards Plaza to get some post cards and found the walk very tiring.
Once they set me up with a Psychiatrist, I was taking 25 pills in a single day (Seroquel, Klonipin, Lexapro, Mirtazapine and yes Ativan + my regular meds; cholesterol, thyroid, restless leg meds, aspirin, muscle relaxer and pain meds). If I needed more Ativan it would be more than the 25. Yes, for me too, the Ativan seems to do no good any longer, but the thought of running out of them sends me to the moon!
Im currently on Ativan, Pristiq 100mg, and Seroquel XR 150mg. My dad got me a bottle of GABA to try. Is it ok to try this while im taking the other medications?
Boost is great. It's probably the Ativan and Seroquel that helped with the RLS. It could also just be you are getting better. YIPPPPEEEE Congrat's on day 5 !
About 3-4 weeks after feeling decent.....I got hit with MAJOR depression, and went to my primany Dr, and she put me on Lexapro, I have been on that for a month now, and WOW, I stiff feel like I'm still majorly depressed, and CANNOT deal with this anymore. I was thinking about some amino acid's, but not sure by reading this form if I can take them because of the Lexapro. I can no longer take this empty, no energy, not happy feeling.
