Seroquel vs lamictal

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel vs lamictal

seroquel

607502 tn?1288247540 one day, I remember I tried to think hard which combo is perfect for BP and came with the conclusion that lamictal+seroquel is best. I thought because lamictal works upwards (i.e. good for depression, plus little side effects like weight gain and rashes rare) while seroquel works downwards (strong antimanic) also one is AC while the 2nd an AP so a flower from every garden and they must equalize each other.
497950 tn?1255863927 Was reading your comments regarding Lamictal. About a year ago I started Lamictal and was also on seroquel. I started out on Lamictal 50, then 100, then 150, then 200. The seroquel was at 200. I totally flipped my lid and after 23 years out of a hospital ended up in one. Got out on this still. Was at originally 200 Lamictal and 50 Seroquel doing great then this incident. The doctor in there had stopped 5 other psych meds previous which I am grateful for. But home half a day thrown back in.
Avatar f tn I am on seroquel xr 300mg, along with lamictal. Doc says I may be able to eliminate the seroquel if I get stabilized with lamictal.
Avatar m tn I am on 200mg Lamictal and 20mg Lexapro. When I was on Lamictal and Seroquel, I asked the doc to take me off the seroquel because I gained 30 lbs. in 2 months, it made me very tired all the time, and my hair started to fall out. The Lamictal/Lexapro combination seems to work best for me.
1039200 tn?1314912008 ve always thought and wrote here that the best combo for BP is lamictal + seroquel though i never tried this combination myself as lamictal brought me seizure yet my pdoc said it can't because it works against that and that I was only hysterical at the time. Yet somehow I feel they can equalise each other, thus you feel stable. The 1st moves upwards i.e. lifts depression while the 2nd downward. In fact the side effect of lamictal (except rash, rare) is little and no weight gain.
Avatar f tn also im on klonopin and 1/2 of a 25 mg seroquel(as needed for sleep) I dont think i like how the seroquel makes me feel.............the dr said lamictal should help my depression...........i was on abilify and i feel i gained weight on it plus develepoed awful dizziness had to stop it after 3 months.
Avatar f tn I've usually always take a mood stabilizer, ie. Lamictal & a anti psychotic, ie. Seroquel. I take them in combination or ill be extremely manic. I've tried depakote & the only issue was weight gain & slight hair loss. I haven't noticed many side effects w/ lamictal. I think combining lamictal w/ lithium is a good decision.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I've relapsed again, as I have posted in the past. However, I seem to be getting better, my doc upped my Lamictal from 200mgs to 225mgs. It's been rough, over the past few weeks, I have been a human guinea pig. We've been trying various medications and they've all caused me more problems. Lithium agitated the heck out of me and Seroquel started to make me cycle harder.
574118 tn?1305135284 It depends on the specific person but Seroquel does have strong mood stabilization effects. It was complex for myself as a person with schizoaffective disorder or people I knew with bipolar with psychotic features as there a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic was neccessary. With straight bipolar Seroquel being an FDA approved mood stabilizer should work at a therapeutic dose. You can see if at a proper dose you can tolerate the akathesia.
Avatar f tn I thought I remember a while back someone posted that they were doing OK on Lamictal but when the doc increased the dosage, the person started having anxiety attacks. Is that true? I recently went up to 200mg/day and I've started having anxiety and now wondering if I should ask the doc to decrease the dosage. He also discontinued the Seroquel but now I'm having major depressive episodes.
625892 tn?1245963714 at first I was like, ??, because Lithium and Seroquel are two different meds, then I read that you started Lamictal. I was told that Lamictal is good for the kind of mania that causes anger, irritability, and volatile outbursts, and that it helps with lingering depression. I was on Lamictal for awhile and hated it.
11041895 tn?1415038678 I've had that problem as well. I'm on Lamictal and Seroquel, and since I started the Seroquel I've been having more severe mood swings than usual--a couple of weeks ago I broke down into tears and sobbed for 2 hours because I was watching my favorite TV show and it made me remember something upsetting. My doctor seemed to think that the Lamictal was more of the problem, however, and upped my Seroquel dosage. How long have you been taking the medications?
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
1134609 tn?1269272200 She is a HUGE seroquel fan. I have been taking lamictal for many years now, along with a ton of other meds (one of which is seroquel.) I have bipolar disorder and severe depression and unfortunately nothing seems to work for me. She tells me that the seroquel is a "cure all" medication but I can't tolerate taking it except at bedtime because it totally knocks me out. Obviously, exactly the opposite of what you experience.
1134609 tn?1269272200 My experience with mood stabilizers was different from yours because I responded very well to Lamictal and Seroquel (which is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer). What I take now is in Phase II FDA study so they are still researching it. As for mood stabilizers that are FDA approved this list might be of help to you: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm as well as this site: http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.
Avatar f tn and the lamictal was controlling this ok for you for 8 years? asking b/c my son has just been taken off seroquel and put on a lamictal/lithium combo...wondering if the combo is working okay for you or not..
574118 tn?1305135284 So a gentleman here advised lamictal and my new pdoc too. I am now convinced. Since I am very sensitive to drugs my pdoc said I can start on an infantile doze of 4mg in 2 tablets a day each of 2mg chewable. So starting saturday afternoon i took 2mg in the morning and at night another 2mg. I slept rather bad although I am on: 1mg risperidone 25mg seroquel 2mg stellazin 0.
Avatar f tn I've had two pdocs suggest lamictal and seroquel for bipolar. I think it is a pretty common mix. I was at my most suicidal taking seroquel so I don't think it worked for me, but in hindsight I also didn't give it a fair try. You don't say how you are doing. If you are doing well don't start tampering with things. It is really tempting to play pharmacist but it doesn't always end well. And whatever you do don't go cold turkey off these meds.
Avatar f tn I find since I've been on seroquel/ lamictal that I haven't had a manic outbreak in over 2 years. I use to take seroquel alone & had several outbreaks one after another. For me the combination works!
Avatar f tn I have been taking a number of medications since I turned 21 in 2008, the first being Prozac, Adderall, and Seroquel. I was only prescribed Seroquel for as long as my doctor wanted to "observe possible Bipolar symptoms".... after about 3 months he took me off Seroquel. After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall.
Avatar f tn I have been on Lamictal for about 4 years, it works very well for me. I have been on all kind of medication before, but lamictal is the one that get me back on my own feet. I am also on seroquel (a very low dose), but I am taking more for helping me to sleep. I have tried olanzapine before, and like ILADVOCATE, I also have a big problem with the side effect (weight gain).
Avatar f tn So today i took the first Lamictal 25 mg and will take another lamictal 25 mg at night with seroquel but i still want to keep taking the topomax and want to know if anyone had done this combo.
Avatar f tn m a little confused too, since most doctors would not put you on such strong medications such as Seroquel or Lamictal unless you have medical conditions that they would be beneficial for, which you may have, but didn't indicate. Have you only had the panic symptoms for the past 2 weeks, or has this been going on longer? Nexium shouldn't be causing those problems.
Avatar f tn The past several months the doc had me on Lamictal in combination with another drug -- first depakote and then seroquel. Because of bad side effects, he has eliminated the other drugs and wants me to take just the Lamictal 200 mg/day. I'm so happy about that! But he said we also have to wait and see if Lamictal alone will control my bipolar symptoms, and I may have to go back on the other meds as well. Anyone else having success with just Lamictal?
574118 tn?1305135284 I tried lamictal for one week and was bad. There is something akward about these anticonvulsants (lamictal, tegretol, depakote..
