Don't quit the Seroquel abruptly -- taper off it. It's interesting you were put on Seroquel and are suffering insomnia -- the only way Valdoxan supposedly works is by increasing the effectiveness of melatonin, which regulates sleep cycles -- in other words, if it works at all for depression, and the evidence appears to be soft, it's by improving sleep.

seroquel is an anti-psychotic that really isn't for the purpose of treating anxiety....although from what I've seen in someone I know taking it is a reduction in the 'racy mind' symptom...and helps to induce sleep. rmjm is the link to diabetes from long term high doses?

Im just curious because some of my older friends are wanting children...but im on lithium, seroquel, venlafaxine, lamotrigine....and thats pretty much it... but obviously it would affect the fetus, but to what extent do you think? Im assuming this would be an odd questiong to ask my psych. I personally think that the lithium would kill the fetus, even though it is a some what low dosage... so this is more or less a curious question...

Right now pdocs use AD in conjunction with mood stabilizers to maintain control over depressions . So if one is not working for you then you will have to try others until your brain finds one that works best. Realize that nothing is sure-fire success yet, controlling mania and depression, but we are headed in the right direction.

Its a matter of promoting full mood stability than just treating depression only and creating the potential of mania (which can happen with anti depressents prescribed for bipolar especially on their own) and since Seroquel has been FDA approved as a full mood stabilizer and works in that regard (as I remember when I was prescribed it) it has full efficacy in this area but there is still continuing research (unlike its effect on schizophrenia which is known) to understand exactly why.

I am groggy also today because i took 100mcg of seroquel last night and it kicked my butt today but i wake in a good mood though - i called the dr and he sent off form a "calm me down drug" but sometimes those have the oppsite effect on me you know. I have three children - my son 15 was adopted, my daughter 12, and son 8months.

Has anyone experienced a spike in violent behavior while on Seroquel? Dr has not returned my numerous calls. I am desperate!!!!!!

I find since I've been on seroquel/ lamictal that I haven't had a manic outbreak in over 2 years. I use to take seroquel alone & had several outbreaks one after another. For me the combination works!

Seroquel is a medication used for bi-polar individuals. Dont mess with your brain chemistry unless you feel you have plenty of it.......only use for seroquel during w/d's may be the sedative effect from the first several doses. Benadryl would work as well.

They should normally suggest starting with a small dose, so you can see how you go. You can always run it past your neurologist too if you are still unsure.

I been diagnosed with anxiety disorder, depression, and they gave me medication to sleep known as Seroquel. Every time I take my prescribed sleeping medication I keep waking up, I am having a sleeping issue that is involving twitching, hard to fall asleep, to stay asleep, and I would call/text people while sleeping. My other symptoms are cold sweat, headaches, nausea. I haven't been eating from Friday October 8th,2010 and it is Tuesday, October 12th,2010. It is a stressful time for me.

The doctors say it has nothing to do with the Seroquel I took. He has a high IQ of 130, and he is in preschool reading at a 3rd grade level. He was a happy baby and is a happy delightful little boy. I'm so nervous about having this baby girl as I don't know if there will be any problems. A genetics doctor looked up the information and studies and showed me that the Seroquel does not cause birth defects. There were some children that had heart problems or respitory problems.

Sounds like the seroquel all right. I would talk to your psychiatrist. They may slower the dosage for you.

Medications in the elderly is tricky, just as it is in children. The geriatric population tends to be more sensitive to medications and often require closer monitoring. Is your grandmother being seen by a doctor who specializes in geriatric patients? If not, that may be something to think about. The only medication you listed that I could imagine might be an issue is the Seroquel, the other medications shouldn't really cause a behavioral/mood issue.
