131829 tn?1249997363 However I have been suffering from migraines since I was 17. My actual problem is the medication Parnate (MAOI) I have been taking for the last 6 or 7 years. Due to all the restrictions and my reactions with other medications I cannot find a medication that will help with the migraines that leave me wishing for death.
Avatar f tn With that being said, perhaps you should try an MAOI. EMSAM is the popular MAOI on the market right now, and luckily, there are no food restrictions at the lowest dose. There's mixed opinions about the effectiveness of MAOI's, but generally they are effective when reuptake inhibitors aren't doing the job. If you don't notice a significant reduction in symptoms after an MAOI, maybe its time for an antagonist of some sort like: remeron, nefazodone, trazadone, or a tricyclic.
Avatar m tn m not sure if Salmeterol is safe to take with Harmine alkaloids as they are MAOI (reversible MAOI however) are they safe to combine? Thank you!
3145974 tn?1343086198 The minimum time between ending an SSRI and starting an MAOI is two weeks. I am on Emsam, an MAOI patch, and followed that criteria just as my psychiatrist required. I also had ECT during that time which stabilized me during the two weeks. I have continued with the MAOI and ECT. I follow the diet most of the time, occasionally having a taste of something on the No-No list. I have not had any problems with this.
591470 tn?1218975186 s called in the UK. A few years ago I had success with one of the antidepressants from the MAOI group, I think it was called Nardil. Unfortunately, you do have to be very careful about what you eat and drink because it can cause some very bad side effects - not a problem if you're aware of it though.

Avatar m tn Have you tried any mood stabalizers like anti-seizure medicines (Lamictal, Trileptal)? Have you tried any snti-psychotics like Seroquel (which is also expensive) or Risperidone, olanzapine?
Avatar f tn ve been given prescriptions for Zoloft and Celexa, tried neither. I was prescribed Seroquel and it was horrible. I was also prescribed Risperdal but was hesitant to try it due to the reaction I had with the Seroquel. I'd like to continue taking the Klonopin for my anxiety but I feel I need something else for my mood swings. I have vaso vagal syncopy which causes low blood pressure and a short pr interval that causes me to have an increased heart rate but neither are truly dangerous.
Avatar f tn First, you have to find an anti-depressant that works for you. Some work for some people while others don't. If the medicine is working for you and you are depressed you should feel different once the medicine is working. This typically takes 4-6 weeks. If you don't feel different (relief from depressive symptoms) then the medicine probably doesn't work for you. You should then try another antidepressant.
Avatar f tn No side effects but I am not sure that it is doing anything for me. It is an MAOI transdermal patch. It requires a restrictive diet or you can go into a hypertensive crisis.
Avatar n tn Like you I also used to take Zoloft. Took it for about 4 years and it worked wonders during that time for my Severe depression and anxiety. Then it just kind of started fading away and became less and less effective so I had to switch meds. Then I switch to Effexor and got around another 4 years effectivness from it until it also pooped out slowly. I have never heard of hair loss being a side effect of any AD medication. I know for me it never caused any hair loss.
Avatar m tn If you have no access to anythingelse Id suggest some careful research into herbals. Do NOT take anything listed as an MAOI or MAO because these contradict pain pills and SSRI's both by allowing the above meds to cross the blood brain barrier... but there are non maoi herbs that can help. Chammomile and lemon balm can be helpful as can hops (hops are icky though even if you like beer). *wishing you a good nights rest friend* ps..
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone else out there is on or has been on Parnate (an MAOI) fairly recently? Would love to compare some side effects and have some questions. Thanks in advance if anyone sees this this year!
Avatar m tn HI, My mother was prescribed Selegiline after some routine blood/urine tests. I found that the drug is MAOI and specifically prescribed for Parkinson's and at times Alzeimer's early onset. In her case Doctor did not do any other tests. I am not sure why a MAOI class drug was prescribed. Is it used to treat other conditions ? In her case she has had weight loss and tiredness in last few months. She also used to take Elderol due to high LDL for last couple years.
484603 tn?1209506478 There are supplements that CANNOT be taken with ssri's tricyclics or maoi in hibitors... anything that raises serotonin levels CANNOT be taken with 5HTP, DLPA or L-tyrosine.
Avatar f tn As for anti-depressants, have you tried an MAOI yet? Yes, it is an old drug but it is also effective. I am on Emsam which is a transdermal patch. There are diet restrictions if you are on an MAOI but I have "slipped" without bad result and I think it may be because I am on the patch instead of a pill. The diet is a low tyramine diet so you can't have aged cheeses, aged, smoked, cured, dried meats, pickled things like saurkraut, soy or soy sauce.
Avatar f tn I was on lithium and seroquel. Worked wonders. Im only on seroquel now cuz im pennant and it.still works but not as.
Avatar f tn Seroquel has now worked for 3 nights of sleep. I take clonazapam and lamtrogine. What could I add as decrease 1 of these? Is tegretol a good choice? Long ago I took lithium, but ballooned up in weight. Suggestions to discuss w/my doctor?
Avatar m tn Does it really work? Because I have been given 10mg Diazepam and it hasn't helped that much with W/D's or stop the attacks. I have posted about this before and someone suggested that if I can't get Clonidine I should try to get Seroquel. I can't get into much detail on here, but I really need anyone who has taken Seroquel to PLEASE, post about how it made them feel, if it helped with W/D's? Did it let you fall asleep?
Avatar m tn I take 200 mg of seroquel to help me sleep if i cut it in half will it still help me fall asleep!! I only have 12 days left of seroquel and i can't see the doctor until the 8th of next month so i'm freaking out about not being able to sleep!! Please help!!
