I do hospice I'm not in a building unfortunately. I go to nursing homes, assisted livings and to patients homes.
Nursing homes are necessary and fulful a definite need, but psychiatric treatment is not one of those needs. In the best nursing homes there is a shortage of staff. They treat "depression" with a chemical straightjacket. Furthermore, the diet in most homes is lacking and good nutrition is part and parcel of treatment for depression. Depression is best treated by tender loving care, holding, touching, caressing and by paying attention to a person.
so my grandma is at this nursing home in huntington health and rehab. a worker there is giving out information about the resident (my grandmother) to outsiders; suchs as; people not working there, her kids, other people. this is going around the school about how my grandmother acts at a nursing home. and i want this to stop. is this illegal to give out information? tell me please. and if you get it from a website, type the web site in.
I know ed is right about this....you carry this, you don't get rid of it. It lies dormant in your system. Nursing homes are rampant with it. There was a time that Dr.'s weren't supposed to admit residents to nursing homes if they were carriers. Hospitals hardly ever test any more for it because it is so rampant. There is even crossover from the animal population. I know because my daughter, a Registered Vet Tech, got it from the animal surgical center where she works.

less than two weeks later, I was told that they plan to discharge him on 1/31/08 and that he will need to go to a skilled nursing facility. I have been experiencing sort of a non-stop full blown panic attack for about 2 weeks. Dr. put me on Lamicatal and Seroquel. The Seroquel knocked me out the first night, but now I need lots more to fall asleep. For the life of me I cannot figure out what started this for me, I mean it is really bad.
My cat was spade a week ago, in the last couple of days she's been showing some strange behaviour. her kittens are now 4.5 months old (she stopped nursing them 4 weeks ago) and now she's calling them and letting them nurse?
Also she goes into the bed where she kept kittens (when they were born) and keeps scratching at it?
Is this just a hormone inbalance where she's been spade?
I would make my visits short and sweet and then wash my own clothing when I got home. I have visited many people in nursing homes or private homes where the urine smell is overwhelming, and have never suffered any ill effects from the smells once I realized how much the people enjoyed the visit . The urine itself or the smell never hurt me at all.
