Seroquel for xanax withdrawal

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for xanax withdrawal

seroquel

Seroquel was first developed for treating schizophrenia as it is an antipsychotic. It was discovered it also had a calming effect as well. Many M.D. prescribe it off label for anxiety, and sleep disorders. It has a side effect of weight gain. I personally would not take it. Remember when Ultram first came out it was prescribed as it was not addicting. Well we all no the truth about that myth! Seroquel is a habit forming medication which requires tapering.
I feel a little like the odd man out writing this. I have taken seroquel for years (100mg.) for sleep and have no trouble at all. In fact I feel worse if I don't take it. After a couple of days I just don't sleep. I also take a 25mg. dose as needed to help with my panic attacks, and anxiety.
Im not going to take anti depressants, i already take lamictal and seroquel for bi polar. There has to be something i can replace the xanax with to get over this quickly so i dont have a seizure like last time i tried. Please help me.
I, 56-year-old female was on wellbutrin and seroquel for the last 2.5 years for GAD and depression, following a psychotic 5 days in an acute care hospital. i also take provigil as needed for daytime sleepiness. The wellbutrin was 100sr generic, and seroquel 75, of which I take 1/3 of seroquel as needed for anxiety.
I have been trying to come off xanax for 2 month. i was taking 2 xanax at bedtime to sleep. im now down to only taking 1/4 per night, and im having problems sleeping at night, the last 4 night i havent got maybe 2 hr of sleep.
I thought he was giving me the seroquel to help stablize my moods and help with sleep. A replacement for the xanax and ambien. Didn't think the seroquel would react in such a violent way. Took last 2 xanax Moday-a little jittery and sluggish but ok...just scared after reading so much about DONT go cold turkey. He is out of town -so er would the answer. Thanks....
I got cloidine, Xanax, something for my stomach, Soma for the spasms in ur muscle, and something for sleep. So far so good. You can feel the withdrawls even with the opana and morphine but not as bad. I was just so tired of depending on something in the morning. . I want to get better not worse. I want my life back!!! I was almost 4 years clean and a car accident messed me up. I'm ok I just had bad fractures on my legs. I got scars that make me feel ugly and it's hard because I isolate.
However, I did read an article published by the maker of Seroquel acknowledging withdrawal symptoms. If word comes out that Seroquel is physically addicting and causes horrible withdrawals, people probably wouldn't be eager to take it and sales of the drug could drop. Seroquel is huge right now, this website is covered in ads for Seroquel. As far as the insomnia, I took Seroquel before bed because of how sedating it was for me. After 2.5 years, my body didn't know any other way to sleep.
I used to get 200 mg seroquel from a friend.I used it for sleep.it is an anti psychotic drug.It has the potential to cause diabetes so i figured i didn't need that and quit.slept like a baby and it made me eat like crazy.Weird drug.I gained 10 pounds in 3 weeks.and i cant normally gain.Be careful.
For everyone reading this, be careful when prescribed seroquel. While doctors can use any approved drug any way they want, this is a serious drug that was illegally marketed (the company was very publicly found liable for this) for just about everything under the sun, but is often used for its unwanted side effects (such as sedation).
Seroquel is BAD. Its an antipsychotic medicine and it has caused many people to be sick and there are higher reports of fatal side effects. I am by all means not a doctor... but I took this drug and I hated it. If you are scared of opiate withdrawals go to your doctor and have them prescribe an anti anxiety medication like zoloft. It has worked WONDERS for me and I am now on day 20 without opiates and I feel great. Best person to ask would be your doctor though hun. Good luck!
I used it years ago for Borderline Personality Disorder and Depression. It is way, way stronger than Xanax which is also very strong, so I would not be taking anything if you are on Serequel. It's a sedative and tranquilizer. Clonidine is not addictive and fantastic for withdrawing but you have to check with your doctor if you can take together. I really would not think it would be ok but you need to check. Like A.B.N.
I also have nausea and flu-like symptoms and wondering if it's from the xanax. I've been on xanax for about 8 months, started at .25 mg and now .50. I just feel "icky" all the time . Any comments would be appreciated!
How slowly are you tapering off of the Xanax? I am just wondering since it seems to be going well for you. When the time comes for me to taper, I want to make it as easy on myself as possible. And yes, that is just the opinion of one doctor. May doctors disagree such as mine and feel that although there will be withdrawal effects without a doubt, they can be minimized and should only last for a few weeks after the taper is totally completed.
I have been on Xanax for over 10 years (.5 mg 3 times a day). I have always respected the drug and it has always been a life saver with my anxiety / panic problems! In the last year my psych. put me on 400 mg of Seroquel and began weening me off Xanax. Im down to one pill a day and have never experienced the slightest problem regarding withdrawl.
i wasn't even taking xanax for years only for a couple months,i got addicted to them and only wanted more,i drank beer behind them as well ,you know to make the effect heightened and i swear to you i hate i ever touched a xanax or a beer.
I have been on xanax for many years, never thought for a minute i would get addicted. my panic and anxiety attacts are awful, i cant function without xanax. the doctors kept me on this drug all this time, i know i have to get help. i am starting to count my pills now, this is so awful. last week i was running low, asked my doctor for more,he rufused, the pharmacist filled it. the doctor was so incinsitive, told me to cut back.how can i cut back, when my body craves it.
Have you seen a psychologist first? Paxil can be a tough drug for side effects and for withdrawal, and seroquel doesn't seem like an appropriate drug of first resort for you. Since your symptoms don't seem to be super severe, why not try therapy for awhile? Use meds as a last resort, not a first. They all have their own problems, so if you can get some help through therapy, maybe meditation as well, all the better.
But for right now, to deal with your withdrawal symptoms, see if your doctor can write you a prescription for some Requip for restlessness, Neurontin for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose, for sleep, Clonidine helps with the creepy-crawly feeling and helps stabilize the blood pressure. All of these medications will make your life easier during this time.
I wasn't even getting any buzz or relief from the pills anymore, it just became about feeling normal to get out of bed, I would just open the nightstand for my morning dose of happiness. The best feeling is making this choice on my own and not for anyone else! I could still get pills if I want, but I truly feel at this point, my desire is gone. I'm done. I came clean to my Mother who is disappointed, but said she will always have my back. Anyway, I am 51 hours clean from pain pills!!! Yay!
Now, I have been using and abusing Xanax 2 mg for the anxiety, Tramadol 50 mg and Vicodin 5/500 mg for the migraine pains. I used the Xanax in an amount of 8 to 10 mg a day, mostly during the night for about 2 years and 55 days ago I started weaning it off, at first to 8 mg, and reducing the amount by 0.25 mg every 4 weeks and I just started today at 6.50 mg a day. My approach is to not rush it to avoid seizures or really unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
I was given Lunesta, which did not work, 25mg Seroquel which worked a little bit for a few days if taken along with 15mg Tamazepam. Then it ' too, stopped working. One night, I accidentally, took 2mg of Lorazepam and it worked great until Dec 1, 2010. I was put back on 100mg of Seroquel and it did not work at all. I took it for four days and quit. Next was Ambien CR, the 12.5mg dose allowed me to sleep for about 2 hours, a second dose would allow me to sleep for another hour.
My question is whether it is alright to stop Xanax immediately even though I am on a similar dose of Klonipin and whether I may experience any difficulties in stopping the Xanax.I am on Seroquel 50 mg for anxiety.Thanks.
a day) but thats not really helping-I also nave a script for seroquel to sleep-thank god! I'm a severe insomniac. I'm reading all these posts on how you could die from this withdrawal-I thought you could only die from a benzodiazepine withdrawal????? If there is anyone out there who could give me advice I'd be very grateful. This is my last bottle of pills and I cant get another,so I cant screw up.
i will never go to a detox, rehab ever again only because of how they treat the benzo patients.i was on xanax for 8 years at 4 mg's a day, they gave me 20 mg's of valium the first day and 4 days later i was on nothing.i had a seizure 2 days later and they put me on phenobarbitol for 2 days.after that they tried to put me on hydroxine,ya,ok,i'd rather take a placebo, you've got to be kidding me.how can something that can possibly take months to get off of take them 4 days.
I found Seroquel to be a helpful antipsychotic and it had mood stabilization effects as well. It was somewhat sedating for me and I had to take it twice a day. For myself 300 mg. was the lowest effective dose and I believe that's true in general but you could ask your psychiatrist as perhaps they intend to raise it.
I don't even know if any of the normal therapies for managing withdrawal would work for tramadol, but I've somewhere down the road anyway. I just wish I knew how long it would all take. It's so muc easier to be in a hard place if you know when it's going to end. I guess I'm paying for my pain free months this month. I am trying to manage it with kratom to have days that are at least partially productive. I'm hoping I'll get some feedback on that as well. Good luck keeping yourself off drugs.
Hey I'm new just jumping in here. I'm on my fourth day withdrawal from vicodin for 2 years. The worst, and I do mean worst is over. You know the hopelessness. But I'm still suffering from depression and tired all the time. I Have also been taking phentermine diet pills for about 5 years now. Not as often since I started the vicodin. I'm taking them everyday again now just for the energy to pick my children up from school. Will I have withdrawal from this too?
i too have tried your combo and i actually had good sleep with it. best sleep so far this year for me is the ambien. deep, restful, and lasts about 4-5.5 hours of sleep. otherwise, toss & turn difficult to get comfortable. the doc brings up the risks with xanax and doesn't want me getting to that point i suspect. i may try the klonopin but it sounds "heavy" med vs the "light" med of xanax. xanax has been great for the exasperations that come out of nowhere.
