Seroquel for elderly patients

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for elderly patients

seroquel

Avatar m tn My grandmother is taking Diltiazem & Lasix in the morning and Seroquel (low dose) at night. She has become more irritable and seems depressed. Should she stop or reduce her medications?
Avatar n tn Combining Ambien and Seroquel can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I was a cna years ago... I remember reading about how elderly patients should not be lay on their left side for too long because it hinders blood flow. I want to find the written material on this before I share it aloud to a class. I feel it will be in a cna book for elderly care- thank you.
Avatar f tn I read (from a legit source) that physicians should avoid prescribing Tramadol/cet to recovered opioid people -- the article / paper suggested that trams might induce cravings for this subset of patients ... I've taken them, and can't believe all the posts about severe addiction to this stuff, but physiology's pretty individual ... After your remarkable exit from the pill club, I don't think you have much to worry about --sounds like it worked for now.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your encouraging comment. I just saw my psych who also started me on Lamictal. I hope to eliminate the Seroquel as well. It just makes me feel like I'm having an out of body experience and it's scary to not remember doing/saying things. I'm really confused about how bipolar is treated. When I was first diagnosed (1 yr ago) I was in a manic state and the Seroquel my doc prescribed helped bring me down to "normal" mood.
Avatar f tn In 2006, doctors working on the same large study reported that the drugs were no more effective than placebos for most elderly patients being treated for dementia-related psychosis. Since then, several review articles have come to similar conclusions, and raised concern about a far more common side effect: weight gain. “When it comes to treating kids, these cardiac events are going to be rare,” said Dr. Jon McClellan, a psychiatrist at the University of Washington.
518117 tn?1429276273 I am wanting to know further about these complications caused by Seroquel. My 28 year old son has been on this med for approximately 4 years now. He has gained a lot of weight on it. Anyone having further details on this subject, I would be most thankful for your input. If this drug is that dangerous, then I want to advise my son about this. The Seroquel has helped his bipolar and to sleep. But, it not worth the risk, if it is causing these type of serious problems in patients. Thanks.
Avatar f tn s common and probably why you were prescribed venlafaxine (another name for Effexor) which is an anti-depressent. As for paranoia, Seroquel is a very effective antipsychotic (for many people although each person reacts differently to each medication) with mood stabilization properties and while I could tolerate it I found it quite helpful.
Avatar m tn hi, although i have never taken this drug, i am a nurse had have used it on our ward for some patients, mainly elderly patients who are aggressive due to mental illness. if you feel you no longer need it, it would be my advice to go and see your doctor, its not advisable to just stop taking it. the problem with this drug is that although it elevates the problem, it does not take it away. if you stop it suddenly you might find the mood problems you where having return.
Avatar f tn my exact diagnosis is depression with associated anxiety which i recieved over a year ago. im on the seroquel for insomnia and the anxiety. remeron for depression and beta blockers for restlessness (maby caused by the seroquel). but over the past year iv had so many up and downs including two trips to the ER from a bang to my head as i was drunk and severe anxiety attack and tachycardia as i took some extacy. which was VERY out of character for me.
1021784 tn?1306363011 Is there anybody out there who tried or is taking Latuda for anxiety or anxiety disorders? If so, what dose are you taking, what side effects do you get, and any other information you wish to share about your treatment with Latuda.

Avatar m tn In young patients psychological causes like lack of confidence, guilt, and anxiety are common possibilities. While in elderly patients physical factors predominate. It can be caused by certain medications, including drugs for high blood pressure and depression. Thyroid dysfunction, vascular diseases like atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease and many chronic diseases can cause this problem. Treating the cause and lifestyle changes like daily exercise, avoiding smoking may help.
Avatar f tn In fact, most Doctors have to re-adjust the dosage for their elderly patients on medications because the elderly respond differently to meds. So I guess what I'm saying is that your "elderly friend" should contact her/his Doctor immediately and let her/his Doctor know of these "agitate/angry" responses to her/his meds. Tarrie, since you came her on behalf of your elderly friend, maybe you can guide your friend in the process.
Avatar m tn I used to take seroquel xr 600. Life was smooth, work was going fine. But doctor told me to reduce medicine, I reduced but i was fine till 200 mg, Later doctor started to say seroquel is not good take another and the new one made me hard to work i left work, hard to do anything. But everything was smooth before. If doctor has told me this is a life time medicine you have to take it 400 mg forever i wont be missing anything. But everywhere doctor says to change the mediicne.

Avatar n tn i took care of an elderly male patient on admission his main complain was his legs and his left eye had minimal whitish discharge and by the 3rd day his eyeball was reddish and he seemed like he was crying beacause he usually had tears on his eye corners he was seen by an opthalmologist and was treated tobramycin eye drops and cyclogel however after a week when i saw him again his eyes was slowly melting, he had corneal abrasion and vitreous hemorrhage, and after 3 days his eyes was totally
919239 tn?1269394658 I have experienced depression for many yrs. I have been prescribed more anti-depressants than I can hardly recall. Most were new on the market, thus very expensive. They were of little benefit. Recently my MD. gave me some samples of 50 mg. of Seroquel XR. After reading the info with the medication, it says Seroquel is prescribed for bi-polar disorder. In my case I don't get the up or manic phase. I was hoping that this medication may be helpful for depression alone.
897400 tn?1303329148 this is of particular interest for elderly patients. Tianeptine, in dosages of 25 to 50 mg/day, has been investigated in patients with major depression, depressed bipolar disorder, dysthymia or adjustment disorder. It has equivalent antidepressant efficacy to several classical antidepressant agents (amitriptyline, clomipramine, imipramine, mianserin) and the SSRIs fluoxetine (in most patients), paroxetine and sertraline.
Avatar n tn and other 170 different OTC and RX that are available). I did not see Seroquel on the list and see that it is mainly for manic depression/ biopolar disorder, etc. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Now the seroquel, Iv had patients take that medicine and quite a few of them cannot handle it because it makes them go into a zombie,- like trance. The wellbutrin, its mainly for depression, but is also used to gain back sex drive which is lost due to other depression medications, it also can give person a boost of energy. I would recommend calling his psychiatrist and maybe have a consultation regarding the seroquel. As soon as you can.
