Seroquel for children with adhd

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for children with adhd

seroquel

Avatar f tn I would strongly opt for a second opinion- seroquel is very powerful and is usually not recommend for children under ten years of age, some studies indicate it should not be used until the age of eighteen.. If he is suffering from any behavioral disorders such as ADHD, Maic depression, O.D.D, etc, which can be hard to diagnosed at such a younge age, psychological/cognitive testing might also be a great option to pinpoint a diagnonsis and proper treatment if need be!.
Avatar f tn However, the Genetics doctors say it has nothing to do with the Seroquel. She says there are tons of cases of children with ASD whose mothers never took Seroquel or any meds. Personally I think Autism Spectrum Disorder has more to do with the age of the father or perhaps even the mother. My husband and I are in our forties.
Avatar f tn Meds along with behavior therapy works very well for kids with ADHD. It is a very good idea that you find a therapist to work with your daughter. Every child on psychotropic medication should be seeing a therapist in conjunction with their meds. Please don't count on the meds to change things. The real change comes from the mental health counseling.
Avatar f tn By the way, I forgot to mention that this site has many good ideas for working with an ADHD child. I think you will find it helpful. The site is - http://www.additudemag.com/topic/parenting-adhd-children/behavior-discipline.
1614250 tn?1298449081 Kelly is right in saying boundaries need to be set now and I think they are really important when a child has something like ADHD to cope with too As for the masturbating....well he is a 14 year old boy and I would think this is pretty common. So long as he is doing this privately then that is really his business.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if there is anyone out there dealing with children concerning bipolar. I have 7 year old grandson that is om foclin but has stomach problems and recently the diagnosis is leaning more toward bipolar and has been put on a mood stabilizer tryleptal 300mg half in the morning and a whole pill at night. Anyone with any information please share with a concerned grandmother.
Avatar n tn I tend to listen to my docs since i am not a doc and did not have the benefit of going to school for 12 plus years with specialized training. If the heart doc says she is at risk then she is at risk. In my humble opinion in one hand you have an issue w. ADHD and in the other you have a situ where the doc is obviously very concerned for daughter and is trying to protect her thru the meds. Every situ is different depending on the medical hx.
Avatar f tn my 7 year was diagnosed with adhd at 5 he was daytrana for 2 yrs and was doing well.now hes in 1st grade in acontained class the last 5 months have been hell for me.hes been going through physical agressive behavior in school so bad that they are making me look at diffrent schools next week because he has been suspended due to his behavior. he just started concerta the last 5 days but iv been through about a handfull of different med including bipolar medication.
Avatar f tn Frankly, if she has anxiety, I would try and deal with the cause which is probably ADHD. The best way to deal with ADHD is to really understand it. One book I have been recommending to do so is the, "ADD / ADHD Answer Book by Susan Ashley. Not sure where you are getting your information for meds, but if you haven't done so, I would look into a pediatric psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD.
Avatar f tn The problem with really intelligent kids is that they problem solve so fast. And the problem with 4 year olds is that they don't have alot of self control. Put it together and ya - you've got problems. Throw the possibility of ADHD into the mix and everything gets a lot worse. I really don't know if he has ADHD. How long ago did the doctors see him and what kind of a doctor saw him?
575214 tn?1218040360 That's a fair amount of medication for a child. He may be reacting to the Concerta. That I'm not sure. Depakoate is a good mood stabilizer. But he's on two antipsychotic as well (Seroquel, Abilify). I have schizoaffective disorder and generally did not need more than one antipsychotic. Did they diagnose any form of psychosis in him? Benzotropine is a side effect pill.
1159468 tn?1262622454 Meds should only be used once resources have been used. At 9, your daughter is really just beginning to enter the academic age where things will get progressively harder. Things like common multiples lead to pre algebra, which leads to algebra and a child that can't maintain concentration is class is going to have a lot of trouble staying up, not to mention probably spending triple the time on homework. So what to do?
575214 tn?1218040360 with a lot of his emotional outbursts and behaviors. Now he will be in the room with his group of siblings (we have 8 children) and suddenly for no reason at all he decides he is very angry and will storm out of the room, slam doors, and hide in his room.

1460021 tn?1445735958 Hi everyone :) I have a couple of questions and would like to hear people's stories (if they want to share). I have a bit of a history so I'll make the long story veryyy short... I'm a 25 year old female Aussie 2007-2009 I was addicted/dependent on Codeine based painkillers...at a very dangerous level Medication i have been on.... *Prozac 2009-2010 (for depression) *Suboxone (to get off the painkillers) 2009-2010...
Avatar f tn I am tired of getting beat up, and I especially feel very bad for her because she cannot communicate with me how she is feeling. I feel like maybe we should go back to the risperidone even though she gains weight and even though she was still aggressive. It wasn't as bad as it is now. Our quality of life is getting worse as she gets older. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Your child may have a dual diagnosis. Seroqual will help with anxiety and hypo/manic symptoms, which are far different then ADHD. Seroqual only had the tardive dyskinesia in high doses. It's a first rate and front line drug for BP. Children with BP tend to exhibit high levels of anxiety and it's very painful, and I can say this from a personal perspective. It's common to also add an ADHD med like Ritalin, it will actually calm down an ADHD child.
Avatar f tn A sensory seeking child (like my son) can often be confused with a child with ADHD. However, a child with sensory integration or other processing issues won't benefit from medication. It may calm them down but never addresses the problem. Google sensory integration disorder and look at the symptoms of a sensory seeker and problems with self regulation/modulation.
Avatar f tn Its rare but possible for a child to have bipolar disorder. If he is diagnosed with Asperger's that is a developmental disability and although those can have behavioral problems that can be severe they don't generally respond to medication like psychiatric disabilities such as bipolar or ADHD but both diagnoses can occur together. They need to provide specific diagnoses as for follow up and treatment and you should discuss this further with them.
Avatar m tn Well, it really is important to figure out whats going on. It is very common for people with ADHD to have depression and to be angry for that matter. There are clear differences between bipolar and depression or adhd anger. The following is for children, but it is also true for adults. "One diagnostic fallacy is to assume that these children have bipolar disorder. Dr. Dimitri and Ms. Janice Papolos recently devoted a full book to the disorder (The Bipolar Child, 1999).
597354 tn?1227197932 The doctor was very concerned then about my grandson who is almost 5 and said we need to keep an eye on him. He has been diagnosed already with ADHD and is on meds for it (i hate that). My question is - do children have thyroid problems that young or is it usually later in life? It may sound like a stupid question to some people but I really don't know and I haven't had time to research it. I didn't really even consider that he could have a problem at such a young age.
