Medications in the elderly is tricky, just as it is in children. The geriatric population tends to be more sensitive to medications and often require closer monitoring. Is your grandmother being seen by a doctor who specializes in geriatric patients? If not, that may be something to think about. The only medication you listed that I could imagine might be an issue is the Seroquel, the other medications shouldn't really cause a behavioral/mood issue.

I tried to tell my psych doc (I probably didnt explain it very well) she just lowered my dosage. I am just, I dont know. I want to be able to be aware just in case anything was to happen to my family or if I need to be on the move if i need to escape or anything. (fire, breakin, etc.) Can anyone offer any advice or ever felt this way? I know it must be my paranoia but its hard. Especially when I feel I have to protect everyone.

Combining Ambien and Seroquel can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In fact, most Doctors have to re-adjust the dosage for their elderly patients on medications because the elderly respond differently to meds. So I guess what I'm saying is that your "elderly friend" should contact her/his Doctor immediately and let her/his Doctor know of these "agitate/angry" responses to her/his meds. I started working nights to help my knee pain (reconstructive knee surgery). I was taking 1 tab of Seroquel in the morning and one at night. I was finding the last dosage before sleep was k-oing me and I was sleeping for 12-14 hrs! Thats too much sleep and I was missing pasrt of my day because as soon as I would roll out of bed I would have to be to work for 11pm. So instead I started taking a half before bed, then the other half when I got up.

I thought I remember a while back someone posted that they were doing OK on Lamictal but when the doc increased the dosage, the person started having anxiety attacks. Is that true? I recently went up to 200mg/day and I've started having anxiety and now wondering if I should ask the doc to decrease the dosage. Dear Ronndy I would say that 100 mg Seroquel is a very high dosage to treat insomina. Usually you would take only 10-25 mg in that respect. It seems that you could have some withdrawl problems as you stopped klonopin abruptly. As Paxiled pointed out it is a bit "heavy" to prescribe klonopin for insomnia when "lighter" medications are available, for instance zolpidem or zopiklone. Or anti-histamine(allergy-medication as atarax).

Its a matter of promoting full mood stability than just treating depression only and creating the potential of mania (which can happen with anti depressents prescribed for bipolar especially on their own) and since Seroquel has been FDA approved as a full mood stabilizer and works in that regard (as I remember when I was prescribed it) it has full efficacy in this area but there is still continuing research (unlike its effect on schizophrenia which is known) to understand exactly why.

I have taken seroquel on and off for years - I am MUCH better on it and in fact spiraled into mania when I tried to stop it. i would say if it is working don't worry about stopping it. do what works today.

Lamictin 50mg in the morning and Welbutrin XL 300MG in the morning. The reason they increase Seroquel and Lamictin is to achieve the correct dosage but mainly due to the side-effects it may have, more like an allergy thing, ex Steven Johnsons syndrome. Though it is rare, but still a possibility. My advise is to leave your meds as prescribed by your dr. You will not get addicted to it and crave more.

Before, i was on zoloft and adivan, mostly took the adivan at night for sleeping issues.. But that hasnt worked, i saw my new psych md today and she gave me seroquel, and told me to only take it before bed time. I'll still be taking zoloft but no more adivan.. Has anyone took seroquel? After his psychiatrist put his dosage upto 900mg of seroquel without incrimental increases he was taken to see another dr. Told sometimes it takes time to get the right dosage worked out and to give it time. The dilusional behavior is now out of control!! But this was recognised as a notable reaction and the higher dose maybe the correct one.

Hello Everyone! Anyone have positive effects on Seroquel for GAD? I know it's an anti-psychotic for Schizophrenia and BP1 & 2. I have read everything I can find on this drug. I have been given 25mg a night for GAD that has developed over the last 5 months. I have a history of severe depressive episodes and have been on Effexor for yrs (300mg/day). The depression has been held back relatively well but the GAD and some symptoms of depression are creeping in.

There appear to be warnings about liver damage with Seroquel in combination with alcohol. The full information would be available on the medication website. It would be essential to discuss all this wth your psychiatrist as to potential health effects. Also drinkng can make many medications less effective. So give my opinion the weight it deserves. I had no trouble making the switch from Seroquel to Quetiapine. Some people do respond differently to the name brand of a med than they do to the generic.

As I got better, the dosage of Seroquel was decreased and I am now on 200mg and doing well. Seroquel worked wonders for me and I hope it helps you as well.

Many sites tells you information about the equivalence of antipsychotics. For instance 100 seroquel = 1 risperidone = 3 zyprexa. My information is that all are given to prevent mania and reduce dopamine responsible for psychosis. Yet seroquel especially is given for depression too this is why it works as a mood stabilizer. Some say all atypical are the same but seroquel seems to be different from readings and at least it works for me.
