Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel dosage for sleep

seroquel

Avatar f tn I took a higher dosage before and they put me to sleep for over 24 plus hours. I had to practically beg them for a lower dosage. Its just that I dont want anything to happen to my family and I cant do anything because I am knock out.
Avatar m tn Seroquel is a serious drug for serious mental illness. It was illegally marketed by the manufacturer (who has been fined and sued successfully for this) for just about everything. So this isn't a drug I would take for sleep (taking any drug for sleep can be a problem long-term, so I hope you're looking for the solution and not just relying on medication) given the strong side effect profile of drugs intended to treat psychosis.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bipolar a month ago. The pdoc has been working with the dosage of Lamictal. I went up to 150 mg but had severe swelling. He put me on 50 mg on Tuesday. I have not slept well in weeks. I have had an especially hard time since I dropped down, getting only about three hours a night. I can't function on that little sleep. The doc gave me 25 mg of seroquel. I used it last night and slept much better. Is sleep always going to be a problem with bipolar meds?
4762310 tn?1362165935 Ok , because i was put on seroquel 50 mg and 10 citalopram and where on them for 6 weeks and they did nothing at all, so he upped the seroquel to 100mg and citalopram to 20mg and its been 2 weeks and still nothing , :S
16773127 tn?1451336964 I suffer from bi-polar and sleep disorders. My dr. prescribed many different things and nothing worked until the dosage of Seroquel was up to 600mg per night. Even at this dose I'm not sleeping more than 2 hours at a time. My weight has soared from 130 to 195 over the past couple of years.
1255936 tn?1296623461 I took 25 mg of Seroquel for GAD and it did wonders! I took it for a year and recently got off because my stresses are gone.
1349329 tn?1276985202 Many doctors are using seroquel to help for sleep durning wd .It does not mean you have have any mental illness. Its just to sleep you threw the worse part of wd .BTW it is precription drug but just like most drugs these days if there is a will to buy something the is a way ..
Avatar n tn Seroquel is not a sleep medication and is not commonly prescribed for sleep as a result. Very few doctors prescribe it for sleep because there is no evidence that it has any positive effect on sleep and it can have powerful side effects. Dr.
2198749 tn?1338642995 I am curious to know if a 75mg nightly dose of Seroquel for sleep can increase depressive symptoms during the day. If so, should I discuss a change in meds or dosage with my HCP?
Avatar m tn Mostly for sleep I've just seen Ambien prescribed, not Seroquel. If you were prescribed this for other reasons pre-treatment I'd imagine they will keep you on any meds that don't conflict with the efficacy of the interferon or riba. I haven't read anything about it causing any negative effects - did you ask your doctor?
403156 tn?1290150018 I stopped taking Seroquel 2.5 weeks ago but was slowly decreasing the dosage for a month or so. Since doing this, I have had trouble sleeping and went through horrible withdrawals. Lately I have been sleeping from 3-6 hours a night (I was prev sleeping 9-12 hrs/night) and wake up feeling exhausted. My doctor recommended trazodone and wrote a script for me. Does anyone have experience with trazodone used for sleep? I am up in the air about whether or not to take it.
Avatar f tn I take Seroquel for sleep and it does make you so groggy during the day. I hate it but it got better after a couple weeks on it. I only take 100mg. and always at bedtime. I don't think the docs use it as a 1st treatment, it's usually a supplement to some other drug like lamictal. Hang tight, you should be able to ask your doc to put you on something else until you build up your lamictal dose.
1278098 tn?1297646373 I was taking 1 tab of Seroquel in the morning and one at night. I was finding the last dosage before sleep was k-oing me and I was sleeping for 12-14 hrs! Thats too much sleep and I was missing pasrt of my day because as soon as I would roll out of bed I would have to be to work for 11pm. So instead I started taking a half before bed, then the other half when I got up. I found the other half started to make me drowzy before working nights so I stopped taking it.
534105 tn?1226157177 This is a drug intended for a limited purpose that was marketed illegally for all kinds of things, mostly for sleep because an unwanted side effect of it is a lot of sedation. You'd probably find quantitatively more problems quitting clonazepam, as it's one of the hardest of brain drugs to stop taking.
Avatar m tn I have been off the Klonopin since 3/20/2009 and since 3/20 if have been taking Seroquel. I did not experience seizures since I stop Klonopin but after I stop Klonopin and switched to Seroquel there are nights I can't sleep... it's been like when I had a good sleep last night the next night I can't sleep. I am also experiencing muscle jerk and back pain. Do you think these are Klonopin withdrawals?
Avatar m tn i was prescribed it, but havent resorted to it yet and probably wont...but it is used for sleep and as a boost or addition to antidepressants for depression...for use at night only as it does induce sleep...(25mgs-100mgs) 600 mgs is what was prescribed when used for bipolar etc...doesnt work well for that, it now has other uses...
Avatar f tn My Dr. gave me seroquel 25mg to take before bed to sleep. Before this i was taking xanax .25 for panic attics, which I took the xanax 3 x a day. So the Dr. said replace the 3rd xanax with the seroquel 25mg before be d to seep how it works. OK i start taking Seroquel Fri night. Sat. i feel tired a little out of it and feel like I'm gonna have a panic attack. I say OK it probably just the meds getting into me. sun feel the same way. Mon.
Avatar f tn I am on Zoloft and seroquel for bipolar. How much sleep should i get at night to feel good in the morning? I've been asleep for almost twelve hours and woken up dead tired to the point that I'll turn my alarm off and not get up... Help?
Avatar f tn I took zeldox for only 3 days before deciding to go back onto seroquel. I think seroquel is much more of a help. The zeldox did not help me sleep yet it made me feel as though I were stuck in a daze the whole next day and I could barely do anything. Seroquel can do that however seroquel does help you sleep at the same time.
766412 tn?1234893283 When I was taking seroquel, (quetiapine), I found it to be a really stabilising drug, I didn't have any real extremes of mood, and weirdly, never cried. My only problems were that I got very tired at times, and often got cramps in my legs, but after awhile taking it those things became less harsh. Good luck with it.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Seroquil for a sleep-aid for a while, but it made me sleep forever and still be tired and apathetic the next day. I took Ambien for a couple years, but took myself off of it because I can get impulsive and overdose. Ambien is kind of addictive. I've always been interested in Lunesta since it's non-narcotic but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Have you tried over-the-counter sleep aids?
Avatar m tn If this is the case, then it is in my opinion not a bad choice, though some would argue there are better(safer) options due to the risk factors involved with the class of drugs to which Seroquel belongs. There are a number of other(*safer*) drugs that are being prescribed for sleeping issues which includes antihistamines such as Atarax/ Hydroxyzine or Phenergan/Promethazine or small doses of tricyclic drugs like Doxepin/Sinequan, Mianserin/Tolvon and many more.
Avatar m tn I have been on Zoloft for 4 weeks and cant sleep. My Dr increased the dosage to 150mgs and it has not helped. I stay up all night, and when I go to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror, my pupils are dilated. Is this normal? Told my Dr I was going to stop taking it and she insist I stay on it. She says Im being childish and that I need to take Seroquel at night to sleep, and to take the Zoloft in the mornings. I am sick of taking anymore pills!
Avatar m tn do they help the manic state,,and mania thoughts?? i was on seraquil for 2 yrs it helped me sleep good but not really nothing threw the day on it..i cant take it anymore due to raise in heart rate..please help me in any way you can??
585414 tn?1288941302 However the daytime dose knocked me out too much and so now I take it all at night, which great for sleep but not ideal as seroquel has a short half life and I would then start to speed up towards the end of the following day. Don't really know the answer except adapt sleeping patterns like suggested in previous post, unfortunately I don't have the choice to adapt my own pattern around meds coz of work/kids etc, now considering AP switch to abilify.
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed seroquel "off-label" for sleep for a long time, but I dont like being on it because it really is powerful like being hit with a jackhammer and is hard to shake off the next day. It has a hangover effect. But it is the only thing that has worked for me with my sleep problems thus i have stayed on it. Also the side effects of weight gain and some other negative side effects are the reason I would love to get off of it.
447130 tn?1225470866 Afetr being on 100mg of Seroquel at night for about a month now, my sleep is back to normal and the seroquel is making me feel better, keeping depression at bay. I've been through a rough 2 weeks with some personal things and I came through like a champ. I don't need Restoril or Ambien anymore and I have adjusted to Seroquel so my doc wants me on it for a bit longer. He explained sleep is crucial to bipolar disorder and ordered my on the Seroquel until otherwise notified.
Avatar m tn Physiologist? Not psychiatrist? If you google any of these drugs, or just consult the information that comes with it from the pharmacist, it will tell you all the possible side effects, but since individuals differ quite a bit in their experience there's no way to know what you'll experience. I will offer than Seroquel was illegally marketed for pretty much everything, especially sleep, which was an unwanted side effect of taking it, and it is a powerful drug.
605458 tn?1539228808 And/or just an Other, because some people take medications like the antipsychotic Seroquel for inducing sleep when a person has a mood disorder.
