Seroquel and melatonin

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel and melatonin

seroquel

Avatar f tn Possible stopgaps include going back to 25-50 mg of Seroquel to get some sleep, using benedryl (which acts on the same receptors that Seroquel does when it makes you sleepy), using melatonin, or even getting a script for short term Ambien, because you're right, sleep disturbance is bad for everyone and much, much worse for those with bipolar. A script for 25-50 mg trazadone for sleep might be good for long term (it's an antidepressant, but is mainly used at very low doses for sleep).
Avatar f tn Does melatonin give you all three stages of REM or is it mostly to help with the most superficial phase, the dream phase? I understand that melatonin is a hormone secreted at night, and how it is not a drug, but I am just wondering if there is a link between dreams and melatonin.
Avatar f tn I am very sensitive to most psych meds. Currently taking Celexa 1mg daily, lamictal 12.5mg daily and seroquel 50 mg at bedtime to help me sleep. I've had problems with getting to sleep and staying asleep for several years. How long can I continue to take seroquel for sleep? Sometimes it works and sometimes not.
Avatar m tn Have you tried melatonin? About the safest supplement around, and one of the most researched pharmaceutical products out there. Very small doses work best for sleep, about .5mg or 1mg. I'd rather take the real thing than a chemical variant such as Rozerem, but that's just me. They're both pharmaceutical products, and melatonin is a lot cheaper and has been used a lot longer.
Avatar n tn So i am day 10 of being sober off of a 6 year vicodin habit of 40 tabs of 750mg a day and cant get more than 3 hours of sleep a night. I just got a script from my doc for Seroquel and he says it will help with my sleep and anxiety. But he says it will be about 3-4 days of feeling pretty poor. I am feeling better every day and the last thing i want to do is go through 4 days of feeling like c r a p. I have tried Lunesta, melatonin and benadryl with no luck.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I have tried Seroquel, Seroquel XR, Zyprexa, and Lithium, all in the space of a few weeks... I thought that they were causing me to cycle harder, but I have realized that I am getting the akathisia side effect from them.. When the sun is down, they bring up my mood, but when it's bright out, I get very agitated.. All of these drugs have this side effect as they work on dopamine. I am at a loss right now; has anyone else had this problem? I am slowly running out of medications...
Avatar m tn Don't quit the Seroquel abruptly -- taper off it. It's interesting you were put on Seroquel and are suffering insomnia -- the only way Valdoxan supposedly works is by increasing the effectiveness of melatonin, which regulates sleep cycles -- in other words, if it works at all for depression, and the evidence appears to be soft, it's by improving sleep.
Avatar f tn Yes but there is the issue of long term side effects. As a person with advanced tardive dyskinesia I am vividly aware of this. I have a friend whose mother has Parkinson's and she is being given Seroquel as a sleeping pill and I was told even by my psychiatrist that its "the wrong medication".
603015 tn?1329862973 I am aware that these are supposed to be used short term, they are not addictive but now 4 months on I am still taking them, my mood is much more settled but im not completley right yet, I have tried a few times to try and go to sleep but I am wide awake tossing and turning and I end up taking one in the middle of the night anyway. I have had the whole bath thing, no stimulents, relaxation techniques etc.. I just seem to have lost the ability to go to sleep.
6726276 tn?1421126668 LOL Yeah I made the mistake one time of trying to stay up on the Seroquel. I was walking back to my room and stumbling. When I got back tot he room I tried to sit on the bed to take my pants off. I missed the mattress and hit the side of the bed hard breaking my tailbone. I never tried to stay up again on the Seroquel.
5243927 tn?1365511675 Aleril is a new natural supplemant for sleep and it works rather well! It contains, melatonin, valerian root and L-Triptophane, all natural and non addicting. It costs about $15 per box and you take 2 before going to bed.
574118 tn?1305135284 In my case, the only herbal supplements that I have found to be safe (for me) are melatonin and Valerian root. The melatonin might be something to look into, if you haven't already as it helps to regulate your Circadian sleep cycle. Your body ups melatonin as night, decreases serotonin and vice versa. Honestly, I have been on every sleep aid out there; Lunesta, Ambien, Trazadone, etc... None of them regulated my sleep cycle and made things worse for me..
Avatar f tn These meds can disrupt our sleep cycles because they affect the quality of sleep and the quality of our dream sleep. Seroquel is particularly sedating, so it's natural you might have a rebound effect. You can also try Calm's Forte, a homeopathic remedy. I wouldn't recommend the ambien, it's another strong drug, and eventually you'll just adjust to it, too, and it also disturbs natural sleep rhythms.
1134609 tn?1269272200 We increased the Lamictal a few days ago and that is probably a big part of it. She also gave me Seroquel to take as needed for sleep, but I don't want to take it if I don't have to. It knocks me out, but sometimes it disrupts my sleep cycle and it makes me very groggy the next day. I also take Neurontin, so I am thinking about saving a half of my doses of that to take at night. I also take Melatonin, which works well.
Avatar f tn And congratulations on being 2 months clean, but ditch the seroquel! try some melatonin tablets, over the counter!
1673169 tn?1316541930 Yes for me it took some time to work although each person responds differently to each medication or treatment but it might be worthwhile to ask your psychiatrist about Rozerem which is an FDA approved medication that works exactly like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. Also it has an exact dose and quantity unlike any natural remedy so if they considered it a possibility could find out what dose would work right for you.
809366 tn?1238749581 I am feeling like I am drugged and scared to take the next dose and scared not to as well. My pdoc is new to me and never gave an emergency number, he will not be back in his office till tuesday and also this coupled with my lexapro put me in a mixed state and feeling slighty suicidal this happens when I cycle rapidly.
5764859 tn?1400881756 Trazodone at higher doses is an older antidepressant, and seroquel at higher doses is an atypical antipsychotic, but they are both just sedating at low doses and not addicting.
Avatar m tn meaning it is not as addicting as benzos and other sleeping medications like ambien, lunestra, etc. I successfully used seroquel to help me wean off valium.
574118 tn?1305135284 if it is still exists as normal quantity in my body and i have bad sleep it means i need more melatonin than the normal person in order to sleep. So perhaps by giving more melatonin than the usual dose can be more harmful. PERHAPS ??
Avatar f tn I've been on 25 mg of Seroquel daily as a mood stabilizer (anxiety, amongst other things) for 10 months and I'm about to ween myself off of them. I still have a month's supply and my general doctor told me previously to take one pill every other day to see how that goes. I started Seroquel with my medical doctor, then later saw a psychiatrist. I will be seeing my psychiatrist at the end of the month to refill my Valium (as needed) and to get another refill of Seroquel.
447130 tn?1225470866 I stopped the Seroquel 2 weeks ago. I did get hungry at night and sometimes had a snack but I hired a personal trainer and have been working 4 days a week for a straight hour of cardio style weight lifting (my heart rate maintains at 165 the whole hour) plus I have to do an hour of cardio everyday on top of the training. I have done this for 6 weeks now and have lost 2 pounds. I have lost quite a few inches but no real weight.
534105 tn?1226157177 Clonazepam is classified as an addictive drug and controlled substance. Seroquel isn't. I"m not sure why your doctor wants you to take seroquel -- you don't say why here. This is a drug intended for a limited purpose that was marketed illegally for all kinds of things, mostly for sleep because an unwanted side effect of it is a lot of sedation. You'd probably find quantitatively more problems quitting clonazepam, as it's one of the hardest of brain drugs to stop taking.
329165 tn?1515471990 About a month ago I decided to destroy all my sleeping medication and Endep and after 3 days of not sleeping and feeling very happy about it! I went to the Doctor as I also had an over-active tummy and got diagnosed with having Bipolar Disorder and that was hyper-mania. I am now on 1200mg Valproate and took 25-75mg Seroquel but at some stage I felt really sleepy during the day and the Doctor stopped that, so now I was ordered to only take the Valproate. I still can not sleep at night.
Avatar n tn thank you for your post do you know anyone taking this med how is it suspose to make me feel. i had to go off the seroquel and abilify. i could'nt sleep for 3 nights so now i'm on lunstra 3mg and trazadone 100mg. i feel lousy. and because i had meds dropped and new ones added i don't know what's making me feel down, the going off or going on.
968464 tn?1247753830 Try taking 2 Benadryl. Also Valerian root and Melatonin help a little. No sleep can be one of the turfiest parts of detox. It can take some time but it will eventually come.
Avatar n tn If not the medication Rozerem is a sleep aide that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. You could ask your psychiatrist about that.
