Seroquel and cataracts

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel and cataracts

seroquel

561706 tn?1333947274 I was aware Seroquel could cause cataracts when I took it in the past but I never got them and its rare but not unknown but just like when I got heart arrythmia from Geodon I had to change to something else. I believe your psychiatrist just means you have to stay on medication as for "working around it". But you could ask what antipsychotics don't cause cataracts and see if you could tolerate one of them.
1115572 tn?1258804496 I am putting these 2 on a weighing scale - take seroquel and run the risk of getting diabetes, getting cataract and needing eye operation, etc. etc. Stop medication and run the risk of a relapse. Relapse seemed to me to be less dangerous than getting diabetes and eyesight problems, maybe even blindness. My mood disorder is not as serious as those about whom I read about in forums like this and other websites. I told my doctor.
605458 tn?1539228808 Or did they try them on different animals and only the Beagles got cataracts? Or were they seeing if Seroquel could treat something else that has to do with Beagles? My sexual side effects have to do with problems of arousal and a climax that has become anticlimactic.
663901 tn?1232649671 Yes when I was on Seroquel I had to get an eye exam each year due to the extremely rare risk of cataracts but I saw an opthamologist anyway so it was no big deal. That is statisically rare and no reason to be concerned about Seroquel and a check up as I suggested is the best form of follow up. Seroquel is safe in this regard. In this case (you know I am always factual) your pharmacist was overstating the risk but a follow up visit is generally a good idea.
802234 tn?1237830136 My 34 year old son is taking 150 mg imipramine, 6 (1mg) Clonozapam, and 400mg Seroquel, (down from 600 mg) per day. His side effects are weakness, irregular heartbeat and eye problems. One of his eyes has gotten so bad that he may have to get a cornea transplant. I cannot say for sure if the meds caused his eye problems, but he had perfect vision all during school and according to my research seroquel has been know to cause lens problems in the eyes.
Avatar m tn I haven't been able to find anything on Seroquel and regarding my issue. Does my being 37 years old sound bizarre to have pigment mottling? My eye doctor only asked me if I had ever looked directly into an eclipse (which I have not). I have no idea how this came up and macular problems are not in my family that I know of.
574118 tn?1305135284 No i mean your view as experts. I'm afraid i consider you experts. In egypt there is a proverb "ask a patient not a doctor" becayuse he has a lot of experience with meds. So it was you whom i meant from what you wrote so far i see that my views agree with yours. Still when i mention my meds to people some of them tell me and some don't "you should take an MS". I am on risperidone 1mg, seroquel 50mg and stelazin 2mg. So i consider myself taking an MS.
Avatar n tn I DO have high myopia (-10) but had no eye problems other than this whatsoever, until I had a chronic sinus problem four years ago after 30 years of life with barely a cold - floaters and symptoms of cataracts (glare, halos etc) arrived within a month or so - despite my hihg myopia i had never seen even one floater. I had had routine but thorough eye exams just before the sinus problem started and no cataracts or floaters were present.
Avatar n tn My optometrist recently informed me I have early cataracts in both eyes. I was shocked due to my age (55) and excellent health (other than my asthma). I read of links between these drugs and cataracts. If I reduce the usage of my inhaled meds would this slow down the cataract progression? Do eye vitamins like Alcon's I-Caps help to slow the progression of cataracts? I can't find any other risk factors and this is really bothering me.
Avatar m tn That study is from 2009 and is flawed, not controlling for the fact that patients on beta blockers are in the older age groups where cataracts are more common. In any case in 2021, beta blockers have many potential side effects but cataracts is not one of them.
Avatar n tn If I remember correctly, there is a possibility it can. They usually will want to do eye testing and monitoring before and during tx. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will soon chime in.
Avatar f tn not at all, its a prescription, but it has saved me from the chills sweats and anxity, and it makes you sleep i went into the hospital with bad symptoms and they gave me some to try and said it is safe to use non addictive and can get it from a doctor, it is the only thing that has worked for me and this is the first time i had an aid to get clean i also picked up a bunch of vit's that supposedly help and im on day 4 and i think they are really helping but seriquil is a for sure way to help,
Avatar f tn Since seroquel can cause high BG you sure your diabetic and not as a result of seroquel raising your BG? Go to Google and put seroquel into the serch field.
Avatar f tn My first pregnancy i did bot use it and my daughter is very smart. I was wondering if any of you have used seroquel and delivered a healthy baby.
Avatar f tn i did see dr and had blood tests and nothing was found and i was told i was well and feel well, apart from rhinitis which i still get, but i cant help wasting my life worrying. If the steroids are likely to cause PSC I will regret taking them and wish i had used a natural treatment, but at least i will understand why the psc cataracts appeared.
Avatar m tn Has anyone taken Seroquel and anti-biotics and are now experiencing heart problems? Do these issues subside, I stopped the seroquel when this happened?
802234 tn?1237830136 My question I took my first dose of Seroquel XR last night and woke with small puffy area inside the 'bags' under my eyes they are still there 9 hours into the day - a non-work, no sun, low energy day (the bags are normal, puffiness is normal when I cry) but usually the whole 'bag' is swollen not just a part. They are not exactly the same size or in the same position, not red, itchy, hot or sensitive.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Every atypical antipsychotic has the potential of metabolic changes that can cause weight gain and on ocassion diabetes but if you eat a sensible diet and exercise that can be kept under control (that also includes the second issue, a person I knew developed pre-diabetes from Abilify and through weight loss, proper dieting and exercise and following up with his doctor was able to keep this in check).
Avatar n tn The knowledge that I have is that xanax and Seroquel do not have an impact on your liver. Also 50 mgs of Seroqeul is very low dose. I am on 600. However it looks like you have hepatitis c and you probably know you shouldn't drink because of that. There are likely a lot of medications that effect your liver. The only ones I know of are Tylenol and pain medicines that contain acetaminophen, but I am sure there are likely a lot more.
Avatar m tn Don't quit the Seroquel abruptly -- taper off it. It's interesting you were put on Seroquel and are suffering insomnia -- the only way Valdoxan supposedly works is by increasing the effectiveness of melatonin, which regulates sleep cycles -- in other words, if it works at all for depression, and the evidence appears to be soft, it's by improving sleep.
Avatar n tn How safe is 200 milligrams of seroquel while pregnant and nursing? Also, is it dangerous to cut the pills in half to take a lesser dose? Or should you cut or break the pills at all?
Avatar f tn I was on seroquel. It was awful. I was mean WHEN i did awake. the doctor put me on 300mg and I had to sleep a full day on it. So they lowered it but then i slept a 1/2 day so then they put it on 50 and I wouldn't sleep and when I slept I was mean as ever. So I no longer take seroquel. its not good for me.
