Serevent inhaler side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Serevent inhaler side effects

serevent

Avatar n tn Severent (salmeterol) can have very serious side effects, death being the most notable. Flovent is a corticosteroid. Read the FDA warnings of February 2010. Like you I have moderately severe COPD. I use Duoneb (similar to combivent) in a nebulizer and find it very helpful. I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system.

Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective.
Avatar m tn Ventolin or salbutamol is a rescue inhaler, that means you take this when you have an episode of Asthma. There are reliever inhalers which work for up to 12 hours after taking each dose. They include salmeterol (brand name Serevent) and formoterol (brand name Atimos). Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
Avatar f tn I would talk to your doctor about the side effects - advair has some nasty side effects that can be serious depending on age, health, other medications etc. There can be cardiac related things going on related to the medication or simple heartburn from it but it's better safe than sorry.
Avatar f tn I liked your quote without any exertion I can breathe normally...whatever the hell that is. What is normal when you have been short of breath so long. I totally agree. I myself I have COPD as well. My guess would be if it is day 5 without the inhalers, then they should be out of your system. I too had problems with Advair and Spiriva. I was diagnosed in Oct. 07 with moderate COPD. Was put on Advair, Spiriva and ProAir as my rescue inhaler.
746512 tn?1388807580 I was just wondering if anyone here gets side effects from taking albuterol. I have only had the inhaler for about 2 weeks and notice very painful calf muscle cramps that occur a couple hours after taking the inhaler (suppose to pre-treat for a lecture hall that really bugs me). They seem to be getting worse with every dose (only noticed the last couple of times of using it), today my legs are still very sore and crampy and I took the dose 10 hours ago.
Avatar f tn There are a few other side effects that can be bad though. A friend has severe heart palpitations with the adult dosage, so she is on the children's dose. I have found that I have to take it or I will have attacks. I pray that you continue to improve and sleep well.
Avatar n tn When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
Avatar f tn Im just a little concerned because i used it once so far, and i know that sometimes the side effects can be really severe (ive been having REALLY bad drowsiness, but thats just annoying not much of a big deal) but it also seemed that the inhaler actually made my chest pains worse. It just made it seem like i had this huge gulp of air caught in my chest.. like i needed to burp but couldnt make it come out.
Avatar f tn Also ask the nurse to watch you take your inhaler, improper technique will increase the chance of side-effects (your headaches). One reliever that works in a slightly different form is atrovent, you could ask to try that one and see if it helps at all. Hopes that helps!
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a 43 year old female and was put on Advair over 1 yr ago. I have never had any Asthma attaks but was having tightness of breath and feeling i wasn't getting enough air and could barely walk. I never had any allergy or Asthma problems my entire life. After i was put on Advair my breathing problems became worse. I started having more problems with my health. I couldn't breath out of my nose and i constantly had a drip down my throught.
Avatar f tn i have done salt therapies in past , many kinds of therapies like halotherapy , silinetherapy , speleotherapy , they gave me great benefit for asthma , by passing 101 days in a salt cave reduces my asthma that I was feeling that I have new lungs , that was amazing !!!!
1047019 tn?1256719961 Medications are not candy and are used for treating actual conditions. There side effects to every drug, and that needs to be taken into consideration when treating disease and balance of the two should be sought.
1512008 tn?1290210749 i was wondering if anyone out there is on this inhaler and if so have you had any side effects from it. the only side effect i know of is thrush and i thought i had it due to a severe sore throat i got after going 2 rounds of antibiotics and a round of prednisone for not only my asthma but chronic bronchitis that lasted 45 days. the dr put me on the thrush medication just in case i had it in my throat but didnt see it.
Avatar n tn I had no fever but lots of mucus and severe shortness of breath. The doc tried me with a blue inhaler which didn't help. I have since had spirometry which showed no asthma but also couldn't tell me the lung function results because my lungs were worse at the time. I am now on a steroid inhaler for 6 weeks, before I go back to repeat the test. In the meantime, I am getting incredibly worried about this. The steroids have helped but my breathing just does not feel right.
Avatar n tn Recently, I had a bad virus and got bronchitis, its haning around pretty good (since October 2008). I take Serevent (it works for me) but due to the virus I have developed several nodules throughout my lungs and having difficulty breathing. My doctor gave me Advair. I am concerned. I take Azor for high blood pressure, I also have been exposed to TB (1987 took INH and B6 six months) I also have lactose intolerance, I take enzyme for. Should I take this medicine?
Avatar f tn ll get used to the inhaled medicine better or later he will reduce the number of times you need to take the inhaler---or give you an inhaler that delivers less medicine and doesn't have this effect. I hope it's better by now.
Avatar n tn Possibly I have had the groin issue. Have looked up the side effects of singular on web md or someplace like that?
Avatar f tn I was taking that dosage. As time went by I developed very serious adrenal fatigue, sometimes so bad that I couldn't walk. Cortisol levels were very high. I was treated for it with only moderate success. But there was a more serious side effect that I was not aware of. For the last two years my lung health was declining seriously and I honestly did not think I would make it through the coming winter. I assumed that the COPD was progressing at an alarming rate.
