Common Questions and Answers about Serevent inhaler

serevent

Avatar n tn I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my moderate severe copd, I have just started Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I cutdown on the combivent ?
746512 tn?1388807580 I'd say it's the increased triggers. Advair can definitely be pricey. Might look into other long-acting beta agonists. Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective.
Avatar m tn Ventolin or salbutamol is a rescue inhaler, that means you take this when you have an episode of Asthma. There are reliever inhalers which work for up to 12 hours after taking each dose. They include salmeterol (brand name Serevent) and formoterol (brand name Atimos). Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar n tn I had no fever but lots of mucus and severe shortness of breath. The doc tried me with a blue inhaler which didn't help. I have since had spirometry which showed no asthma but also couldn't tell me the lung function results because my lungs were worse at the time. I am now on a steroid inhaler for 6 weeks, before I go back to repeat the test. In the meantime, I am getting incredibly worried about this. The steroids have helped but my breathing just does not feel right.
Avatar n tn Recently, I had a bad virus and got bronchitis, its haning around pretty good (since October 2008). I take Serevent (it works for me) but due to the virus I have developed several nodules throughout my lungs and having difficulty breathing. My doctor gave me Advair. I am concerned. I take Azor for high blood pressure, I also have been exposed to TB (1987 took INH and B6 six months) I also have lactose intolerance, I take enzyme for. Should I take this medicine?
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed an albuterol inhaler, and usually only have to use it about 3 weeks out of the year. Otherwise, I take Singulair year round. This year the humidity is especially high. I have had trouble breathing for over a month now. I am a REALTOR® and am outside alot, and have been showing a lot of vacant bank repos with no air, and lots of mold and moisture problems. My inhaler ran out about a month ago (and was expired anyway).
312330 tn?1245176752 I was on it for over a year and then they switched my meds around to what they are currently because I was still having alot of problems with my symptoms...Flovent, serevent (essentially advair), singulair, zithromax and xopenex ( I am on several others but these are specifically for my asthmatic problems). Some people do very well on Theo...I hope that it works out for you.
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn Ok, I was confused. I stared on Serevent not Singulair, I have both and keep trying to figure out what is the safest and best line of action for me. The cortosone has been my best friend at keeping the lungs cleared of secreations (sp?). Serevent has some real health issues that concern me, but so far it has been very helpful for me. That is interesting to note that Singulair can cause depression. I wonder if that would be a good choice for me along with the cortosone?
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
Avatar f tn If you do need a LABA as well, Serevent comes as a stand alone ICS. An LABA should always be used lin combinationwith ICS by asthmatics wheter in a combination med or as two stand alone meds. I hope that helps you. God bless.
Avatar n tn Those who have to use an inhaler before exercise often find they don’t need to use their inhaler as long as they maintain good hydration. Children are notoriously dehydrated. They drink too much soda and juices and not enough water.encourage all children to drink water as their primary source of liquids. Soda and juices dehydrate the body, and drinking them can promote asthma symptoms in those predisposed to it.
Avatar n tn It is also possible that some of the symptoms you describe, such as headache, shakes, racing heart, were caused by the other ingredient in Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) called Serevent® (salmeterol). Many of the symptoms you describe occur with panic attacks and are relieved by leading a healthy life style. If that alone doesn't control the panic attacks, there is good, effective medicine for treatment of panic and you should request it from your doctor.
Avatar n tn The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
Avatar n tn OK, First post on forum. Diabetes for 7 years. Type 2 progressed to full insulin shortly. runs in the family. Went to a new doctor today and was getting examined and he told me a new treatment was out. He said about an inhaler. Well I know about insulin inhalers but didn't know if they were used much. So I asked them if this was what he was talking about and he said no. He said the medicine reacted with your pancreas.
Avatar f tn ll get used to the inhaled medicine better or later he will reduce the number of times you need to take the inhaler---or give you an inhaler that delivers less medicine and doesn't have this effect. I hope it's better by now.
Avatar n tn That means that this type of medicine should be used with caution and, in fact, maybe should not be used until it has been determined by a specialist that your rapid heart beat would not pose a serious risk, with the use of long-acting bronchodilator medicines such as Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder) or Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate). You should also have a chest x-ray and spirometry, a simple breathing test with and without a bronchodilator.
Avatar n tn This would include a long-acting bronchodilator, such as Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate), Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder) or Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) along with an inhaled steroid. Another potentially helpful, oral medicine is called theophylline. Your doctor may also want to prescribe this. You should have your blood oxygen level checked, in case it is low and you would need supplemental oxygen.
Avatar f tn Are the two meds both inhalers? I was given a daily inhaler to take called Spiriva. It specifically treats COPD. The other inhaler I was given is ProAir. Which is used in emergencies, when my breathing is not good. These type inhalers are called rescue inhalers. They give quick relief. Coughing, lots of mucus on the chest, shortness of breath, etc., I do well understand. I deal with that too on a daily basis. But, it is very good that you are getting this mucus to come up.
Avatar f tn is it safe to use a nicotine inhaler? obviously nicotine isnt safe and can harm your baby but for stopping smoking would it be ok? as cigarettes have thousands of other chemicals aswell as nicotine but for stopping completely has anyone tried the inhaler?
Avatar n tn I am relatively new to the use of an inhaler and have trouble telling when they are empty, full, or even working. Four evenings ago I started a knew inhaler and ended up using them both an estimated 6 treatments. The 1st day after this I experienced intense heartburn. I dont usually get heartburn and have never experienced this extreme discomfort. Blamed it on the pizza we had eaten.
Avatar n tn I just heard of an insulin inhaler anyone have any info on this? I currently use an insulin pump and would love to try something new.I would much rather have an islet cell transplant, but thats not going to happen too soon....any ideas on how to get into the beta testing for this???
457438 tn?1302068407 I am an Asthma Patient..I am using Asthalin Inhaler regularly. I dont take any other medicins except inhaler.Have any problem by using inhaler regularly?
Avatar f tn spirometry confirmed that it was asthma I had and I got out on the brown preventer inhaler and the blue reliever. after being on the blue Ventolin inhaler I had experienced severe headaches and a jittery feeling in me everytime I took it, the headaches became increasingly worse so I got took off Ventolin and put on Bricanyl Turbohaler. I have been using Bricanyl along with my brown inhaler and antihistamines as it was believed that I had allergic asthma.
