Common Questions and Answers about Sensitive tooth cavity

Avatar n tn t know the type of restoration that you received. My feeling is that it was a composite filling(tooth color). These fillings can be sensitive for a fairly long time(that can vary). I think you should wait a few more days and if there is no improvement, especially if you can not bite on it return to the dentist and have it redone.
Avatar n tn The fact that you feel hot and cold indicates you have a chance to save the tooth particularly if the cavity is small but you need to stop food being trapped there particularly sugars. Fillings or fissure sealants can block food being trapped and can han have a temporary filling to make sure that the tooth heals up and is no longer sensitive to hot or cold.
Avatar n tn Now again after about a month the patch has reappeared, only now it is completely black and can be clearly noticed. The tooth seems to be a little more sensitive now too. Any ideas on what this patch is and why it has re-occurred ?
Avatar m tn my right front tooth has been sensitive to cold, it has also been sensitive to cold air, when i would be outside and i would breath in heavly my tooth will get very sensitive. i have braces on top and bottom teeth (dont no if that could be a factor). i got my braces tightened 3 days ago and the sensitivity started this morning. i was thinking it could also be that my teeth have been moving around. i really dont want a cavity on one of my front teeth.
Avatar f tn But the tooth was going to need pulling soon anyway.
494236 tn?1364849421 I have a cavity in my very last molar tooth and it's eroded the tooth and the dentist wants to fill it. The tooth doesn't hurt but the gum seems to hurt and I get bleeding during brushing. Is it better to have a fluoride treatment, try mouthwashes fluoride/listerine or is it safer to have the tooth filled?
Avatar m tn 2 days ago, I had severe tooth pain that came out of nowhere. It was my upper left side, 2nd molar from the back. The pain was incredible in the roof of my mouth, and was actually hard to pinpoint which tooth was the culprit. Hot food or drink hurt incredibly bad, while cold liquid made the pain go away almost instantly. My dentist saw a cavity on the tooth that was "deep", and he was concerned that he would have to do a root canal right then and there.
Avatar f tn Got the root canal the following weekend and when the numbness wore off the pain in the tooth began again but only in the tooth that i got the root canal and it is very sensitive to pressure so i started back with the pain killers. Help me take the next step because i cant stand this!
Avatar n tn He said the only other option would be to refer me to an endodontist about a possible root canal, but I think I would be against such an idea since the cavity itself was nowhere near the pulp of my tooth and was very small. What could be going on with this tooth??
Avatar n tn After the procedure was done I was feeling pain in my cheek (where the anesthesia was injected) and sensitivity in my tooth. I had trouble sleeping due to the pain. Today the tooth is no longer sensitive but I am paying close attention to it. My question is, was there really a need to crown the tooth instead of using an onlay? Not sure if I chose wisely, since it seems the extra drilling might have caused root sensitivity.
Avatar f tn Since then that tooth has been black and is still very sensitive and loose. Im lucky to not have lost that tooth at all and still to be able to use it, but had that first dentist listened to me- then this tooth could've been saved and done better from the start. Because of his incompetence it'll always be black, sensitive, a bit loose and the bone cavity will never be 100% healthy as it could've been. But im sorry to hear about that.
Avatar f tn Hello! I'm seeing my dentist on Monday so I'll ask him this but in the meantime, I thought I'd ask here! After a long time without going to the dentist due to a mental issue (agoraphobia), I got a filling done on a cavity that I've had for a while. The cavity was deep, but not so deep that I needed a root canal. My dentist told me it'd be sensitive for a week or so, but to talk to him if it gets worse or if there's any throbbing pain.
Avatar f tn i brush and floss daily adn everything amd i use the sensitive tooth paste. if anyone has this happeneding any idea why or how did u deal with it Thank you ladies. I just dont want to go ot the dentist as im terrified that it will hurt my baby :0( Thank you.
Avatar n tn Since then, this tooth has been hurting me, causing pain to radiate from my tooth to my jaw. It is sensitive - but not overly so - to cold and heat. I went to my dentist and he took an x-ray this week and saw no sign of decay or abscess. What could the problem be?
Avatar n tn Firstly, it is not unusual for the tooth to be sensitive to hot and cold after a filling is placed. This does not necessarily signal the need for root canal therapy. If the filling was deep then the possibility for rct is present. I would allow the symptoms and the duration of such to determine the need for further treatment.
Avatar n tn Are these things related, the b-12 count and the sensitive teeth? My teeth feel COLD all the time, but they do not ache like a cavity or tooth ache.
Avatar n tn I went to the dentist for a check up and he said that I had a small cavity in the last tooth on the upper left side of my mouth (not the wisdom tooth). I didn't have any pain in this tooth. He filled it with a white filling and it hurt for a few weeks and was sensitive to the cold. I went back to him and he took out the filling and put in a temporary one to see if it still hurt. It was completely pain free. I was able to chew on it and it was no longer sensitive to cold.
Avatar f tn I have a tooth - my upper right lateral incisor - that has had multiple problems over the years. When it came in as a child, it had a small nick out of it near the gum line that later became a cavity and I had filled. Over the years (I'm 38), I had it filled a few times as the filling would wear out. The last time, there wasn't enough to have it filled, so my dentist put a crown on it - twice (the first one wasn't high enough into the gum so the lines were visible and wearing).
Avatar n tn About a week ago I started getting a toothache in my 2nd molar, upper right side. This particular tooth has had some problems (bad cavity, which was filled). Anyway, I went to the dentist and he said there was another cavity and he would fill it in a couple of weeks but there was a possibility it wouldn't work and the tooth would have to be extracted or i would need RCT.
Avatar n tn If there is a cavity present on the x-ray and your dentist feels it might need a root canal it can not be left as it is. Many times you will feel no sensitivity even though there is a extensive cavity present. You will be doing yourself a disservice if you ignore the problem.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago had bad dental pain. Dentist said had cavity &infection. Did filling. On penicillin and 1week later pain back. Went again to dentist today. Said had fracture to filling &fixed. Numbing pain, burning in mouth and ache like muscle tightening in side of face all way to ear. Lasts 10 minutes and then goes away for a while. Hot & cold sensitive. Help, nerve pain???
Avatar n tn Is it possible that my tooth will not recover after being filed down for a crown? The tooth was perfectly fine until it was prepped for a crown. I have highly sensitive teeth, I have undergone 3 root canals already and suffer from TMJ. I am leary of getting the permanent crown on if my tooth does not quit hurting even though he said he can go through the back and do a root canal. what are my options? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I had a very deep cavity filled on my upper right last tooth (#2) last week and after was having serious jaw/overall mouth pain/headache. It slowly got a little better each day. Then I went back on Tuesday to have my crown replaced on my lower right tooth 2nd to last (same side). I told the dentist about my pain and he said I might need a root canal so he prescribed me some pain meds and antibiotics if the pain continues.
Avatar n tn Hi, I went to the dentist about 3 months ago with a tooth sensitive to hot and cold and painful when chewing. We opted to replace the existing filling. First session he was unable to numb the tooth. He gave me about 8 injections but soon as he started drilling I could feel it. Next session was better, he managed to drill and fill though I could still feel it. The newly filled tooth continued to give me discomfort initially with hot and cold. It has since been sensitive when chewing.
650528 tn?1223993253 Does anyone know how long (approximately) it takes to stop feeling stiffness in the jawbone area after a filling? I had a deep cavity that was filled recently (2nd to last lower right molar) and it hurt like nothing I've ever experienced after the novacaine wore off.
Avatar n tn Can a dental xray tell how deep the cavity is, or just that there is a cavity. If it can only show that there is a cavity, is there any other tests a dentist can do to determine how deep the cavity is?
