Seizure while pregnant

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure while pregnant

seizure

Beyond the risk of falling and inuring herself and the baby - are there any other risks associated with a seizure while pregnant? Is the seizure itself at all harmful? We plan to contact our doctors (neurologist and obgyn) in the morning to let them know.
Hi, my wife had a seizure back in June 1, 2005 and gave her medication to control the seizure. One year ago the doctor removed her from taking the medication, and this year on Dec 25, 2008 at 10:45 PM she went into a seizure and they put her back on medication and also prohibit her from driving for one year. This seizure has happened when she went to sleep, but not every time she goes to sleep.
my mother took me to get an eeg and brain scans when younger with no negative results. i fainted in 03 while driving in 04 when pregnant 05 and 06 didn't faint 07 became very weak lightheaded sick to my stomach felt as tho i was going to faint but laid down quickly 08 fainted and just 3 weeks ago fainted...when i faint it comes with really horrible stomach pains sick to stomach feeling dizziness ringing of the ears pounding of the heart hard to breath and lose of conciousness.

I am a 43 healthy female. I had a gran mal seizure in 2004 where I fell backwards stiff as a board and cracked my head open on concrete. I lost all consciousness and could not tell where I was when I came to. I do not remember falling. God blessed me that day as I was about to drive my husband and 2 children home from vacation from San Antonio to Houston. I could have killed them and another driver.
When he went to the kitchen for juice, he let out a scream and collapsed and began to have a seizure. The paramedics came and we got his blood sugar up with orange juice mixed with sugar and an IV, he spent 6 hours in the emergency room. My questions are #1 did he have any pain when he screamed out? He doesn't remember anything and even though I think I handled the situation, I was terrified. #2 How can we avoid this from ever happening again?
She is now 29, and pregnant with her 3d child and has had 6 seizures while pregnant. She is currently taking medication, while pregnant but it just dosent seem to work...What can she do? Why are they occuring now especially while pregnant? What questions specifically can she ask her doctor to help her and her child? Will she every stop having the seizures?
i had two seizure attack in 2007 while pregnant. I was high risk and was given no medication. Since this year ive had 8 attcks since july. I was hospitalized. I had MRI done Ct Scan and also video eeg done all my test came back normal. However i was placed on Keppra 750 mg and i need to know what might be the cause of these seizures. no one in my family has them.
I took Toprol XL 50 mg while I was pregnant. I was having syncope with heartrate going up to 180's. I wore a 24 holter monitor, was in the hospital several times during pregnancy and this continued until he was born. After he was born he had low blood sugar, he couldn't hold his body temperature, he was having trouble breathing and he failed his newborn hearing test both times. He has been in and out of every dr's office known to man.
did the xanax while you were taking while pregnant then got off of effect your baby? should I just go to the hospital and see what they say? with my new medicaid, hardly any doctors are taking it right now. My dad told me if I go to the hospital that all they will say is that I am having anxiety and send me home. I think he is wrong. They will check me and see how the baby is doing I would think. Maybe even a sonogram. That is why I am having such a hard time with this.
Hi, I've been trying to research as much as I can about the meds I"m on while I'm pregnant. I was in a head on collision this Feb, and therefore was put on Norco. I unexpectedly became pregnant in July. I tried to get off the Norco myself just because the fact I was pregnant and thinking ,Ok this is obviously not good for the fetus I'll find alternative ways to cope with my neck and back pain", well easier said then done.

My husband is 30 and yesterday had a severe seizure. His body tensed up, and his eyes rolled in the back of his head and then he started compulsiving and spitting up. I believe this was a seizure. After wards he became very combative and was very confused. He doesn't remember the seizuee at all. The doctor said that it was due to substances abuse.
You should only take what you need in order to not go through withdrawl. I was told that withdrawl while pregnant is ery dangerous. If you are able to wean off slowly so that you are not taking anything would be the best unless you have serious pain that would cause you to be stressed and constantly hurting, because you being in pain is not good for the baby either. If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me ***@****.
Actually the high seizure risk while going CT is much overplayed. Now the seizure risk and rate while taking lots of Trams is high. I was taking 40 pills a day , 2000 mg and went CT and never had a seizure but I certainly had them while on the Trams. At 350 mg per day the doctor is correct that there is little risk in going CT. To be honest if I read correctly she is due to give birth in 7 weeks.
i am almost 10 weeks pregnant. Before i got pregnant i went down from 100mg of zoloft to 50mg of zoloft. at 5 weeks pregnant i had a relapse of depression/panic and anxiety. i am now on 150mg of zoloft and have felt only a little progress. it is almost 4 weeks later. I know it takes time for the zoloft to kick in, but im nervous that it isnt going to work the same. It took 3 1/2 weeks for it to kick in the last time, and it worked at 100mg. now im on 150mg. anyone have any advice. I need hope.
As you probably know, reducing the frequency/dose of a seizure med leads to an increased risk of having seizures while your body adjusts to the change. However, awaking feeling groggy and stiff can be a result of many things, none necessarily related to epilepsy. I suggest talking to the physician managing your condition medication. A sleep study may prove useful, or a 24-hour video EEG (in a hospital) or a 72-hour ambulatory EEG.
I am only asking because in your original post you said he was home and laying with you, then in your comment you said you were going to go to the doc as soon as your hubby got home. Sorry just confused. It sounds like a partial seizure. Were you conscious while seizing? If so, chances are it was a partial and not a grand mal seizure. Whatever type of seizure it is very important it gets figured out. If it were me I'd be soooo freaked so good job being calm! Also, back to the husband thing.
I have had severe panic attacks for 8 years and been on xanax for 9 years. I took a pregnancy test Mar. 3rd and it was positive. Wen't to ob/gyn Mar. 7th and found out that I am now 7 weeks pregnant. I have been trying to get off of 1mg xanax that I was taking 4 a day. 1mg is the blue xanax. This might be confusing but I need to ask because I feel that I am the only person in the world dealing with getting off xanax, the withdrawls and being pregnant at the same time. Ok... Mar.
Since I was a child, and until now (27years old) about once every three months or maybe more, I will have a frightening experience while sleeping. Once I'm asleep, sometimes it feels like my head will get really heavy and there will be a deep low humming sound in my head or maybe a train sound that seems to paralyze my entire body, however once this feeling of heaviness occurs, I wake up internally, but my eyes are not open and I can hear everything going on around me.
She did have to be on medication while pregnant. Your best course of action would be to discuss the options you have available to you before becoming pregnant. I would NOT recommend stopping your medication until you talk with your doctor either. Good luck!!
Essentially we are in the same boat- you are giving your kid drugs, and I am taking them while pregnant. I dont see my situation any worse than yours.
he could have had a seizure. How old is he? my dd had a seizure while eating on three seperate dates. turned out after 4 months of testing that she has reflux and asthma and what they believe happend was that during her feeding her food intake was not going down and her ashtma then kicked in resulting in a seizure brough on by just that. She turned blue two of those times. She is fine now. Medicated with Prevacid and Flovent. Did he go fall asleep after that?

The strobe light seemed to have bothered me a little and i didn't say anything but afterward she kept asking if it bothered me and if i felt like i was going to have a seizure. She also seemed to type everytime i felt something weird in my eues and head. I won't know until Friday of my results, but was curious to know if it sounds like anything was abnormal?
I have a question when I am pregnant I have like one seizure then they stop the doctors say I have a brain wave out of line but could it be hormonal seizures if that is what they are called I am supposed to take lamictal and some other kind of medicine but I quit during pregnancy and I have no problem its kinda confusing
( I don't know if this helps any but it got worse while i was pregnant with my daughter and I dont smoke drink caffine or alchol or do drugs I was a premie my parents did drugs i had a lot of high fevers and they never took me to they hospital or doctor for treatment no matter how sick I got........ thats sort of where we assume the seizures may have originated from also busted my head open a couple good times as a kid.
Instead of it being regular it's very dark and kinda thick and gooey looking (if that makes sense). I really can not be pregnant right now (hense the bc), so I'm hoping I'm just over reacting... does anyone know why this is happening ? i would really appreciate any input please and thank you!
all my symptoms that started 8 years ago started with unequal pupils while pregnant with my son. that's why i've contacted chiari care center. unequal pupils and POTS are symptoms of chiari. Chiari is a skull bone malformation that presses on the cerebral tonsils which puts pressure on the brainstem....thus all the crazy symptoms. i just want answers.
