963651 tn?1247528914 Im 25 and have Vasovagal Syncope, sometimes reffered to as VVS, Reflex Syncope or Neurocardiogenic Syncope and i pass out regularly, to the point where i was off work for 9 months. If you're still experiencing problems, I really reccommend checking out CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young and STARS.org.
494976 tn?1302710701 hi there, this is serious, I was told that the main signs of a seizure vs. simple fainting is the jerking and incontinence. PLEASE tell a neurologist ASAP!!! I have possible seizures too but am undiagnosed right now.
Avatar f tn We have read about non-epileptic seizures that are caused by diminished cardiac output, cardiac syncope. What are the chances that this seizure was caused by the bradycardia and not epilepsy? Also how likely is a reoccurence?
Avatar m tn First, some history - about 8 years ago my husband had a tension-pneumo thorax and had a chest tube placed. Several hours later he woke from sleep complaining of extreme nausea and being "hot" then suffered a syncopal episode along with what appeared to be a "seizure." Upon further evaluation the neuro determined it was a vasovagal reaction to the chest tube.
1406332 tn?1315962760 There are a few cardiac thing that should be ruled up for syncope and seizure. Things like Atrial Fibrillation (that can cause clots) and Sick Sinus Syndrome that can cause Syncope. There are also Atrial-ventricular heart blocks that can drop your heart rate and cause syncope. A cardiologist would also be my choice to listen to the valves to detects any murmurs or clicks that might indicate a need for an Echo study.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with epilepsy as a teenager as a teenager and now have been told at age 32 that I may have been mis-diagnosed and actually had cardiac syncope all these years. Could anyone help me with some info. I have episodes which look like full seizures, but with warning signs prior to the event.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, we have tried anti-seizure medication and they have increased the number of fainting/seizure spells. Paxil has slowed them down because the doctors seem to agree that they are more anxiety related so this is the last medicine they have decided to try for it. Thanks for the information.
Avatar f tn I am no neurologist, but what you describe is not a simple vasovagal syncope. (I have had vasovagal syncope and it is not like what you describe at all.). You should definitely go see a neurologist as soon as you can.

Avatar n tn She would come right out of the seizure as soon as she was laid down and had complete memory up to the moment of seizure along with alertness and wakefulness afterward---not typical seizure response. She remained upright during one seizure and went blue, then gray. Only after I pulled her from the car and lay her on the ground did she start breathing again and the color returned to her face. She often reports headaches after seizures, but not always.
Avatar m tn They began 3 yrs ago, when she had a seizure as she was finishing her shower. The ER Dr. called it syncope, so our insurance wouldn't cover an MRI. We saw an NL, but it was about a month after the seizure. She had no further symptoms so he ordered an EEG (which showed nothing) and sent us on our way. Fast forward to last Tuesday and she had another seizure, also getting out of the shower. This time I took her to our PC Dr. He ordered the MRI and an MRA because she is orthostatic.
Avatar f tn I know this is an old post, but I'm answering for anyone who stumbles upon this post while frantically searching for answers! This sounds like a relatively harmless incidence of vasovagal syncope. The vagus nerve is responsible for causing this particular form of fainting and it runs through the diaphragm. Getting “winded” refers to a harmless, but supremely uncomfortable, situation where the abdomen is hit so hard that the diaphragm temporarily spasms.
Avatar f tn There are several conditions which can mimic seizures like a syncope, parasomnias, and movement disorders. There is a condition called psychogenic nonepileptic seizure (PNES) in which there are sudden and time-limited disturbances of motor, sensory, autonomic, cognitive, and/or emotional functions, these are psychogenically determined. Other conditions mimicking seizures are conversion disorder, panic attacks and migraine attacks.
Avatar f tn I have three questions -A few weeks ago my 5 year old daughter was diagoned with situation mediated syncope(looks more like a seizure). no medications have been prescribed. The heart specialist wantted to see the frequency of the episodes and he suggested the Pace maker option. I am personaly not for a Pace Maker. I need to know if there are any young children who go through this and what other options are out there? -ever since my preganacy. I have been light headed.
Avatar n tn I have read that seizure can be brought on by cardiac syncope. He has had a normal MRI of the brain and a normal EEG. A neurologist has recommended that he go on meds for seizure control even though tests are normal. My friend is hesitant though. caper 250 - How long did your seizures continue before subsiding? He only had one episode 2 months ago and nothing since.
Avatar f tn Hello... I have been having dizzy spells since I can remember. In my teens was the first time I actually had a seizure and then vomited. It picked back up in my mid-20's around 2000 and was more fainting then throwing up with one time being escalating to a petit mal seizure. Originally, they thought it was neurological... years later they said it was a heart condition. I've had the EEG's, EKG's, MRI's, and a couple others I can't remember the names of...
458594 tn?1206301123 This would involve bloodwork to check for metabolic, endocrine and infectious causes and other blood tests such as a Lyme,or Ehrlichia check. His heart would also need an evaluation, since syncope can appear as a seizure. Other causes of seizures are abnormalities in the brain either from trauma, or a lesion in the brain.

Avatar f tn Over the following weeks I started to have problems with syncope episodes and my chiropractor reported that I had begun to have seizures and that these were becoming increasingly severe - the seizures seem to only occur when I am lying down and I seem to be more prone to them if I am physically tired and/or hot.
1551453 tn?1294245067 I'm an 18 year old female who was ER diagnosed with syncope. Twice in two weeks I found myself passing out at work. I felt completely fine before passing out and only had a headache when I woke up. Between the two times I passed out at work I would have moments where I would get light headed and my heart would pound in my chest extremely hard and fast to the point where I would have to sit down.
Avatar f tn It could be epilepsy, but the fact that, from the way you mentioned it, the head banging somewhat woke you up does not point toward a seizure because usually when you come out of a seizure, you are confused, extremely tired, and sore. Also, you wouldn't be able to be woken up from the head banging. Although, the fact that the shower nob held up your head by hair would be suspicious of something more than fainting...
