Avatar f tn I have been taking several types of medication through the years for my epilepsy I now take topomax and zonogran and limtical. I have a hard time with my memory staying focused I feel like I am loosing my mind sometimes. Has anyone else had the same side effects?
Avatar f tn I don't hear very many good reports about keppra with regard to it's side effects. I do hear many complaints about mood swings, aggression, cognition and memory problems, etc.. However, I have read a few comments saying it can actually HELP with mood swings and bipolar disorder (which she doesn't have). Please comment on this. My daughter has just begun this medication for seizure disorder. She has had seizures several years apart from each other.
Avatar n tn You are on a high dose now, so tapering slowly and switching to klonopin at the end and some anti seizure medication the very last week is what you have to do, and have all of this monitored closely by your doctor. I would suggest tapering in phases...phase one getting down to the 1 -2 mgs level/day, and learning how to sleep without xanax, maybe substituting some short term use of ambien if necessary.
564065 tn?1216314613 I was thinking seizure-free, but some people would probaly like to keep track of their seizures.
1653487 tn?1303524162 I was placed on an anti-seizure medication - Keppra 1000mg and told that I can not drive for at least 6 months... Not a good thing since I am an external marketer for a LTC facility. Luckily my company is working with me (for now anyway)... This past week has been a whirlwind of emotions (and minor side effects from the meds). I have my follow up with the Neurologist on the 13th of April and of course have a TON of questions written down in a journal already.
Avatar f tn That may be some form of a minor seizure as well (there are multiple classes of seizures of course) as a person does not have to lose consciousness during a seizures. A person can have different types of seizures, not just the specific ones they were diagnosed with. Best to speak to a neurologist and they could do tests such as EEG's to see what is happening during those staring spells to see if its some form of seizure and then decide from there how to treat it.
Avatar n tn Agree... there are quite a few different medications that can make it difficult to lose weight. Some are notorious for causing weight gain, as well.
Avatar m tn My fear is that I will have a seizure, I have delt with someone else having a medication withdrawal seizure (tonic-clonic, or clonic tonic I forget what the order is) and that dreadful noise is forever stuck in my head! PLEASE, I want to know what the likelihood of me having a seizure is, I have been taking the fioricet for a few months now, and have lowered it down to 3 a day. I must have a professional estimate or reccomendation before I have another breakdown!
Avatar f tn Partner had a stroke april 21 but only this last 6mths she has had 1/2 episodes where she has gone to laugh and had one i would describe as a seizure - she stares and goes red as though struggling to breath then 10ish secs later she is absolutely fine- anyone else had similar
Avatar f tn Hi, about a year and a half ago I had my first seizure, I have now had a total of three (about six months apart.)I am on medication and each have occurred while I was sleeping in the early hours of the morning. Each have also occurred after an extremely stressful event. Is there a correlation between stress and seizures AND...are there articles written on different types of seizures, in particular seizures that occur mainly at night.
Avatar f tn i ran out and thought that it (like most meds) built up in your system. NOT. i ended up having a grand mal seizure, spent time in icu and now have to take seizure medication twice daily. BE CAREFUL.
183202 tn?1219853659 I am no medical expert but one thing I do know and that is what many types of seizures look like. I have a 30 year old daughter who has had epilepsy all her life. What you have described could very well have been a seizure. Most of my daughter's seizures happen when she is just waking up. A lot of people have seizures when they are sleeping...that is why they often do a sleep E.E.G. when determining if there is seizure activity in the brain or something else that could cause a seizure.
1029105 tn?1252162547 So lately I have been becoming more & more unable to do normal things b/c of bizzare symptoms? Esp when I'm at rest late at night, very tired, in a car, t.v in the dark & loud noises. I get completely dizzy & feel like my brain is freaking out. I can't control anything in my mind when this happens. My heart beats out of my chest & I loose muscle strength almost completely in my right side.
975514 tn?1324997938 I recently weaned myself off of narcotics, but I suffer from a lot of different types of pain. I have numbness in my foot from some nerve dysfunction sourced from my lower spine. I also have arthritis in my lumbar spine and shoulder. I suffer from tendonitis in my shoulder and arm as well. I have pain that lingers around my body from joint to joint too. one day it will be in my knee, the next day it will be in my hip. I have sciatica.
Avatar n tn 1. What is the probability of having a seizure after I stop with the medication? 2. Do you believe surgery is necessary to remove the cyst or should I just live with it?
Avatar f tn Welcome to epilepsy forum. I am sorry to hear about your husband. First I would like to start off by saying that it is possible carbamazepine was no longer effective because his body started to became to immune to it. I know you do not want to hear this but finding the correct type of seizure medication or even medication's that will control his seizures could be a long and frustrating process. I have been there.
Avatar f tn Now as of this past yr I have been seizure free, with medication of course.I live in overseas in the country of Kuwait an basically just desired a second opinion. Im on Trileptol 600mg 3x daily I WAS SO SEDATED-all I did was sleep,Im a mother of 5 ! trileptol-150mg daily furisum 10mg The Trileptol was the only one I responded too, which has caused me to have SO much memeory loss, which I know is the side effect along with the migraines, which I take various types of meds for that when needed.
1045176 tn?1253403447 Also, it is possible to lower the chances of getting kidney stones by increasing your intake of water while on the seizure medication, especially while taking a dose of the seizure medication (like, drinking 2 cups of water when you take the seizure medication). Now, if someone who had seizures and responded incredibly well to this specific medication took it, the probably would never get kidney stones.
Avatar f tn If someone with Alzheimer’s disease has a seizure, a healthcare provider will perform a careful assessment that includes blood tests, a CT scan or MRI, and an EEG to assess the seizure type and any other underlying cause for the seizure. From these tests, an antiepileptic medication will be selected to help control the seizures.Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn i had a clonic-tonic seizure about 3 weeks ago. i was put on keppra and now am having a lot of confusion and am very tired and extremely moody. is this related to the seizure and or the medication?
Avatar n tn I was able to get off meds with my 1st pregnancy, for about 4 years, but found myself back on medication after a stressful job situation. It took about 7 years later before I was able to get completely off the Lamictal I was on. Even though it was a juvenile medication, I still had problems with more and more seizures as time went on. I now try to be proactive with nutritional products and through diet and lifestyle changes. It works when I work it.....
1884909 tn?1322538765 Ashley, I do not know a whole lot about anxiety disorders but I know more about seizures. There is many types of seizures, what I mean by that is a person could just stare off into space or they could go up to hitting the floor and start having convulsions. I have both of them and then some. That is why my friends call me flipper. Could some of the symptoms of a panic attack be the same as a "type" of seizure, yes. Can you always tell if you have had a seizure, no.
Avatar n tn Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia). I took Zyprexa for several months before having to stop because it made my skin crawl. I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG.
1435895 tn?1304291241 Hi!! If you are having migraines (aside from the chiari headaches) you might try the 'seizure' medication. I take a daily medication (Keppra - 750mg) once a day (at night) to prevent my migraines. And I have to be honest, since I started taking it - my migraines went from 5 - 6 a month to maybe 1 or 2!!! When I DO get them, I take treximet (very expensive - but amazing) - and it usually knocks out a migraine within about 30 minutes!!
