Seizure types diagnosis

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure types diagnosis

seizure

Avatar f tn There are some that involve staring off and only last a minute or two. Some involved stiffening of the body only. Google seizure types. The only way to tell if it is a true seizures is having an eeg within 24 hours of the seizure, it will show abnormal brain activity. My brothers seizures always show in the right temporal lobe of the brain. His are controlled now with antiseizure meds. If you have seizures pregnancy can make them worse. You need to see a neurologist for proper diagnosis.
Avatar m tn My wife has the following since a car wreck, severe neck pain, numbness in both hands, headache, metal taste in mouth, some Aphasia, Flat effect, and partial paralysis, can feel touch but loses the ability to move hands and feet at times. We have been diagnosed with some partial seizure activity i.e. electrical system in brain not working, had 4 MRI of Brain, CT, C-Spine of Neck ( 3 bulging disc), Echo w/wout bubbles, halter etc.
Avatar m tn Went 12 years seizure free thanks to the wonders of Tegratol CR - then two years back what I thought was petit mal was returning, however looking back the 'absences' were and are atypical about 15 per month often based around food and sometimes accompanied by sweat but no zoning off into the parallel world which I used to weirdly like. I mostly aware of where I am and with whom I am speaking although the thread goes.
Avatar f tn Partner had a stroke april 21 but only this last 6mths she has had 1/2 episodes where she has gone to laugh and had one i would describe as a seizure - she stares and goes red as though struggling to breath then 10ish secs later she is absolutely fine- anyone else had similar
Avatar f tn Hi, I have multiple seizures every time I try to fall asleep. My Dr. also said that I wasn't having seizures and withdrew the keppra I was taking for seizure activity. While taking keppra I finally went 3 days without a seizure , but they started up again now that I am off. It really ***** and is often painful. My Dr. told me that I am having seizures but are non-epileptic and referred me to a psychologist.
Avatar n tn He has been taking two types of seizure meds and they kill his memory and even make him a bit dingy. We thought the meds were preventing his seizures untill two nights ago when he had one, and unluckily i wasn't with him so we dont know exactly what happened, but he obviously got up and tried to walk around because he busted his left eyebrow up (there is an open wound) and he has a huge goose egg above his right eye. He also got a fat lip.
Avatar m tn It is not necessary that you have to have jerky movements and loss of consciousness during seizures. You may be conscious and have an altered state of mind during a seizure. There are many types of seizures. Please consult a neurologist who will have a close look at all the symptoms. A detailed history and investigations are a must for diagnosis. Please go for an MRI of the brain to help in diagnosis. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn I am 36 and have a baby and have been seizure free for 7 years. I was wondering why i keep getting twitches in my eye or lip and then they go away. I get worried that i will have another seizure everytime i feel a twitch. I am not sure what causes it even though i am relaxed my lip is twitching. it only started a couple days ago but my eye comes and goes also. The lip is happening not too often but I just dont want it to get worse.
Avatar m tn ) I think it worries me a bit as last year I had partial seizure where my leg started failing and collapsing and then my whole left side sort of curled up like a bug over that leg and I couldn’t move. I also had a huge disconnect with that leg. I could see it stumbling and failing but I had no idea why. Like the feedback loop was gone. It lasted a few minutes. I went to the hospital and two neurologists later it was diagnosed as a partial seizure.
Avatar n tn My sister is having seizure like attacks, her whole upper body tenses and disfigures in painful stiffness, the last one reached her legs and feet, while the attack was in progress she also felt cold trickles down her cheeks. These seizures like attacks last an hour or more and she does not lose conscientious and can comprehend all that is happening to her. Neurosurgeon found a small tumor, 7mm between the brain lining and skull bone and assures her that this is not causing the attacks.
564065 tn?1216314613 I was thinking seizure-free, but some people would probaly like to keep track of their seizures.
Avatar m tn I don't think people who have a seizure remember the seizure, but he definitely had something. Maybe it's a thyroid problem. He needs to be seen, but an ER is the slowest, most expensive and least efficient way to do it.
778872 tn?1243740453 Over a month ago an Urgent Care Physician sent me to the ER with droopiness in my face (left side), slurred speech, (I knew what I wanted to say, and was able to say it but the speech was just slurred) numbness on the left side of my face and mouth, slight weakness of arm and leg on the left side, visual deficits (a dark comma shape in my peripheral vision on the left and only able to follow my hand out to about 45 degrees if looking straight ahead.
Avatar n tn Over the past 3 years i have had periodic black outs where i just collapse on the floor everything goes dark and i can feel a terrable pressure all around my head sort of like a head ache but everywhere the longest one i have had lasted about 4 or 5 mins and led to a short seizure. I am just tired of this happening it happens at least once a day and at most four times a day i have had a seizure every month for the past six months.
Avatar f tn t say for sure which was correct only that I have not had any seizure activity for decades; I do know I have multiple types of arrhythmia. Was there a connection? I guess I'll never know but my brain seems to function quite normally.
Avatar n tn Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia). I took Zyprexa for several months before having to stop because it made my skin crawl. I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG.
341190 tn?1295467125 Hi pattig Thanks for replying, yes 3 weeks ago i had some sort of seizure and im awaiting tests, think it could be epilepsy so not in the best of health, i know instantly everyones thoughts are thats exactly what are causing the headaches but why now and not 3 weeks ago, when i get these headaches which have been everyday for the last 5 days all i can do is curl up in bed, is that like your daughter?
Avatar m tn My first thought was a food allergy. My aunt didn't used to have problems but several years ago developed an allergy to corn to where she would have a migraine every time she had corn products. Since you said the diet didn't seem to matter now, I'm not sure that doing a elimination diet to find the cause would be helpful but it might. The other thought was seizure activity. For twenty years, I had absence seizures and a few grand mals. I had brain surgery six years ago for this.
704609 tn?1228738656 For the seizure tracker I would like a tracker that could keep track of how often i have seizures and also a way to keep track of the type of seizure the person has. I have four different types of seizures plus I have auras. Also a place to note whether an injury occured from the seizure would be nice. I have given myself concussions from the worst seizures. I also take xanax when I get an aura (when I feel a bad seizure coming on) so a way to track that would also be nice since it is related.
Avatar f tn These involuntary jerking can be myoclonic jerks which can occur in head, neck, shoulders, arms, legs and torso. These can occur alone or in combination with seizure types or epileptic syndromes, absence epilepsy, myoclonic epilepsy, etc. Myoclonus is brief involuntary twitching of a muscle or a group of muscles. It is a medical sign suggestive of underlying nervus system disorders like multiple sclerosis, parkinson’s disease, alzheimer’s disease, serotonin toxicity, some forms of epilepsy.
Avatar m tn Hello. If the EEG is normal 'during' an episode, it is pretty much against a seizure. I don't know your types of seizures in the past, but when you had the grand mal episode, you probably did not hurt or injure yourself. Did you have any tongue bite or fall down ever before? Non epileptic seizures are also classified as pseudo-seizures or conversion disorder. These have a different basis. What I am concerned about is your history since 3 months of age.
