Seizure symptoms in puppies

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure symptoms in puppies

seizure

Avatar f tn The sleeping the next day thing is very common following an epileptic seizure. Not all dogs do this, but it depends on the severity of the seizure. In humans, a bad headache usually follows the seizure the next day, and they're just wiped out from the muscle tension during the seizure and very, very sleepy. The circling while she's chasing her tail is a classic doggie OCD. This makes me think that the licking probably is as well.
Avatar f tn If a family or breeder I would contact them to see if there is a history of seizures or disorder with either parents or any problems with puppies from the same litter. Have you taken him to the vet? If not I would make it a priority.
Avatar m tn ive had anxiety disorder for about just under 3 years now and im 16 years old a couple of months ago i had a really bad experince - i got really hot, my vision went red in the bottom, i was driving with my mum, i felt out of it and weird in my hands tingling and was convinced i was having a seizure which i have had two when i was in rimary school about 8 years ago. it was only classified as petite epilpsy and the dr's ensured me i would grow out of it.
Avatar n tn It does sound like a seizure, and contrary to how awful it looks, seizures are not painful. It's also not uncommon for older dogs to develop seizure activity. Call your vet and have him make a note of the episode in your dogs's chart. Make sure you tell him the time of day the seizure happened as well. It may be a one-time occurrence - or not. If the seizures become more commonplace, phenobarbitol is one medication that most vets start with to control them.
Avatar m tn mindy is 10 months old she was the runt and we got her from a freind when she 6 weeks old and she sleeps in my bed and i want to say she stared having seizures around 4 months old she only has them when she is sleeping...where her body mostly her legs will shake... or when she is sleeping her eyes will be open... and she does not respond to me when she is sleeping with her eyes open...........
Avatar n tn Not only would it be unfair to the people who ended up buying the puppies, speaking not only in terms of medical bills but also in terms of watching the dog they love suffer with the allergies, it would be unfair to the dogs themselves, since they would be the ones suffering with the allergies. I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but when it comes to creating new lives, we must be as realistic as possible and strive to do only what's best for the dogs in question.
Avatar n tn He was just fine yesterday, acting normal and then this morning after taking him out to do his business, he just started to make this horrible crying sound, and started having what looked like a seizure. Within seconds he went limp and just stopped breathing. Can you tell me what might cause this? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Are you sure there are more puppies? Sometimes there can be some time in between puppies but if she has been pushing this long you best get her to the vet. The puppy may be too large, dead or turned and can't make it through the birth canal. Your female may also need a Pit shot.
Avatar n tn Nif it is an infection, could be bad for the puppies. You should see a Vet. Mom may need antibiotics and puppies hand fed.
561284 tn?1216225908 I have a little 4 month old puppy chihuahua and at 2 months he was involed in an accident in which he was tripped over (by me) and was fighting for life in the vet. The emergency vet said he wasn't going to make it and my heart broke then, however my little fighter. I phoned the vets every hour until late at night and then early in the morning I thought i was bugging them to. I also, dreaded every phone call as i didn't know what i was going to hear.
202123 tn?1208051200 They spend many hours reading over pedigree charts and researching bloodlines to be sure that there are no genetic defects that are going to be perpetuated in the puppies, to ensure that the puppies are virtually certain to have a life free of disease and pain. They spend money to have genetic testing done on their dogs for diseases that are specific to their particular breed, and if a dog is found to have or be a carrier of any of these diseases, they don't breed them.
442658 tn?1563386491 And from the way you describe them, they are inguinal hernias, which are not all that common. Most hernias in puppies are umbilical hernias that appear as a little bubble where the umbililcal cord was attached, and they are caused at birth by the mother chewing the cord off too vigorously and too short. The chewing and pulling on the umbilical cord causes a tear in the wall and the hernia is formed.
Avatar m tn Due to the age and symptoms, sounds like a visit to your Vet is in order. Yes, puppies can go downhill quickly.
Avatar f tn This could be from any number of things that only a Vet can diagnose (NOT an online forum).....Your puppies are clearly in trouble! Your description of symptoms are serious!!! You need to get these puppies to an Emergency Clinic ASAP.....I'm afraid your going to loose them if you don't seek medical assistance, fast......I do hope they are all OK........
Avatar n tn thanks for your answer, but this is the only puppy i have that had these symptoms, i have 4 more and none of them show any symptoms like these. could that still make it parvo even if only one died??
Avatar f tn d hypothesize (1) something they are eating, rolling in, being bitten by? Do they go outside? Do they stay in the laundry room where they might get a little detergent or bleach? or (2) a hereditary problem? Did you use the same sire each time? If so, he and your ***** may each have a recessive gene for this--something that wouldn't show up in the adult parents because they are just carriers, but would affect about 1/4 of their pups.
Avatar f tn I have heard of nothing but problems in both litter box and "paper" training puppies. It literally TEACHES them it is okay to eliminate indoors - and that is counter to a main basic rule of house training. So I think you are exactly right and that is why you have the problem today. The breed did not do you any favors. I love Dr. Hetts recommendations. I think it will work if you are very consistent about it.
Avatar m tn Our garbage comes tomorrow luckily, but do I need to worry about any of them crawling around my back yard with the puppies, do I need to worry about them getting in my house. I am just kind of freaked out they are so grose. Help! thanks!
Avatar n tn My First thought is a "Heart Defect" in both puppies.....Thus, the swelling of the legs & feet.......I may be way off, but that's what comes to mind..... You need to have your Vet take a look at this to determine what's happening.... As with any defect, you wouldn't want to pass these guys on to unsuspecting new owners..... Have them checked out and let us know what you find out....Good luck....
5915818 tn?1377748240 Wow, TEN, isn't that unusual, maybe a record? I don't know what Gruel is, but I assume that means the puppies are now taking in more than mother's milk - the mother must be exhausted. I'm not a puppy expert, but respond mostly in response the the large number of puppies. What is the normal (not pregnant weight of the mother? On outside, how cold is it? MN has got to be in general cold.
Avatar f tn The fact that this puppy is only four months old is baffling, because idiopathic epilepsy usually is first seen in dogs in the 2-3 year old range. While it is not unheard of for it to occur in young puppies, in their case it is more often due to a head injury or some type of illness, like hypoglycemia. Reno007, what breed(s) is this puppy? Is he a large breed mix? A toy mix? How many times a day are you feeding him?
Avatar m tn I have two different breed puppies. The bigger puppy keeps pinning and standing over the litlte puppy then plays to rough and makes her whine. How do i get him to stop pinning her down and standing over her?
Avatar n tn People will always try to find things to pick at and always try to put there 2 cents in but I just learned to let it go in one ear and out the other.
4290325 tn?1356918391 My Shih Tzu should be having puppies in about 2 weeks and I have never had puppies before. She has had a few litters already but this will be first. When do I introduce the outside to the puppies and when d I start them on dog food. I inherited these dogs from my Mother-in-law. She was a breeder and then she passes away.
10870053 tn?1416581194 my husband was wanting a puppy really bad and i was going to get him one for christmas but now im second guessing it.
