Avatar m tn Absence seizures are more common in children than adults. Someone having an absence seizure may look like he or she is staring into space for a few seconds. Compared with other types of epileptic seizures, absence seizures appear mild. But they can be dangerous. Children with a history of absence seizure must be supervised carefully while swimming or bathing because of the danger of drowning. Teens and adults may be restricted from driving and other potentially hazardous activities.
Avatar m tn I have a friend who had a random seizure one morning after she had been vomiting and had diarrhea all night before. She also had not been sleeping well or at all some nights the whole month before. I took her to the emergency room and she had blood work done and a CT scan done both came back just fine. The doctor told her it was probably that she was dehydrated, and had lack of sleep that put too much stress on her brain. He also told her to consult a family doctor.
Avatar m tn Hi I am the grandmother of a four year old boy. Back in Feb. he had a seizure like episode which I did not see. He was staying at his other grandmother's. Took him to the er and after everything they thought it was night terrors. Then about a month ago he had another this time I seen this one. No doubt it was a seizure. I know cause my daughter which is his aunt had them most of her life due to ts. So his doc sent us for an mri. Got the call yesterday that they found something.

911669 tn?1294099188 There are several different types of dyskinesias, and each has different clinical symptoms, causes, and treatments. Adults and children with certain chronic brain disorders often exhibit symptoms of dyskinesia. Movement can occur in the head, arms, legs, hand, feet, lips, or tongue. The dyskinesias can be categorized as chorea, dystonia, myoclonus, tremor, and paroxysmal tardive (late-onset type).
Avatar n tn if anyone knows of a good reference of symptoms could you post the URL please? I am only now looking into the symptoms.. it has quickly gotten much worse this year. Having a difficult time understanding all that can be affected by this disease.I have it due to Psuedotumor Cerebri. Thanks! Also wondered if having Chiari makes you at greater risk for injury if you hit your head. I have been fainting a lot lately and am worried about that.
Avatar m tn Cough, chest tightness and breathlessness the three symptoms are the triad of symptoms for Asthma. It is a disease affecting the lungs causing narrowing of the airways, usually due to an allergic reaction to triggering factors. Therapy is with bronchodilators which cause the airways to dilate. Your symptoms could also be due to COPD or Bronchiectasis. The other causes could be due to Bronchitis or Cystic fibrosis.
Avatar n tn The main criteria that establish a diagnosis of abdominal epilepsy include episodes of GI complaints that are unexplained by complete evaluation (which it sounds like your daughter has had), and a sustained abolition of symptoms on anticonvulsant medication (such as lamotrigine). While seizure activity per se is not a diagnostic criteria, many children with abdominal epilepsy will have EEG abnormalities.

Avatar f tn what are the symptoms of epilepsy and are there any warning signs? This discussion is related to EEG.
Avatar n tn While in the hospital this time she has had 2 recurrences of the symptoms. In both cases I noticed that the symptoms would reduce as the pain reduced. The doctors have done MRIs, MRAs, CTs, EEGs, bloodwork, and she is scheduled for an EMG and amublatory EEG. Everything but the CTs come back normal. The doctor said it was either migraine (she has never had these before in her life and her weakness and memory do not improve afterward) or seizures.

Avatar f tn It showed lesions on my brain in the parahippocampal and right temporal horn region. I was put on seizure medication and I still am not convinced that I have seizures. Medicine doesn't really help. Recently I have been uncoordinated. I get dizzy then my limbs and head feel very heavy. I get very weak. Always feels like my head is floating yet heavy. Spots in my left eye and sometimes my right but eye exam ok.
Avatar m tn What are the symptoms present? Migraine may present with throbbing headaches with associated symptoms like nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. Topamax or topiramate is a seizure medication, which is also used to prevent migraine headaches in adults. However, it will only prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks and will not treat a headache that has already begun.
Avatar m tn Our youngest daughter, who will be 8 in March, had a seizure induced by a fever in early November. The seizure lasted about a minute or less and she was convulsing and lost consciousness. I was shocked and scared because she had not had a febrile seizure since shortly before her third birthday. The only other seizure she had was at 15 months, and again, was a febrile seizure.
Avatar m tn In adults, MNDs occur more commonly in men than in women, with symptoms appearing after age 40, that doesn't mean it never happens in women in their 30's because it definitely can but it is one heck of a giant leap to connect something that only lasts 1-3 seconds with anything like an MND. Q:Anyone know what this could be? A: I double checked all the physiological explanations i'm aware of and what you've described isn't suggestive or consistent with anything serious...
Avatar f tn He’s currently living in a private community for adults with disabilities and taking classes and he’s just stopped going, or missing the majority of them each week. He’s always been one to follow instructions (almost to a fault), never acting out, etc. so we were not understanding this at first. We, along with his counselors talked to him and he always apologizes and says he’ll do better and it just doesn’t happen. When asked, he says he forgets?? His Dr.
Avatar n tn My 9 yr old was diagnosed with seizure disorder last week after stress EEG showed multiple abnormal firings in left parietal lobe. MD states that it is most definitely seizure activity/disorder. His symptoms are so vague, though, that we often don't know when he is having a seizure, or what to do. We only seem to know for sure that he had a seizure after the fact, because he sleeps 3-7 hours.
Avatar f tn It could be epilepsy, but the fact that, from the way you mentioned it, the head banging somewhat woke you up does not point toward a seizure because usually when you come out of a seizure, you are confused, extremely tired, and sore. Also, you wouldn't be able to be woken up from the head banging. Although, the fact that the shower nob held up your head by hair would be suspicious of something more than fainting...
Avatar f tn There is some difference in symptoms in infants and adults. In babies, gut symptoms may develop after weaning onto gluten cereals. Other symptoms include muscle wasting in the arms and legs, a bloated tummy and irritability. Some infants may gradually fail to gain weight, or lose weight after previously growing well. Symptoms in older children vary as they do in adults, and can include poor growth, short stature, anaemia and recurrent mouth ulcers.
