Avatar f tn The only ways adults get HIV is from unprotected vaginal or anal sex or sharing IV drug needles. There are certain occupational risks in nursing but a closed scab is not a risk. I would bone up on some education if you are going to continue in this field so that you aren't anxious over things like this and understand where you need to use precautions. And you don't wear gloves when handling things? Anyway, no risk here on this situation.
Avatar f tn Im 31, 2014 I had three miscarriages and I just found out two days ago that I am pregnant. Totally shocked because Im in nursing school and wasn't planning on getting pregnant any time soon. Im just very nervous and scared right now for the safety of the baby. Any suggestions??
Avatar n tn An EEG and MRI brain would be necessary to know the seizure activity. Your doctor might brief you more on the precautions that you need to keep in mind while on work or driving. Take care and update on your progress.
Avatar f tn It sounds like a possible seizure. They can manifest in many different ways and it's not uncommon to see that head tilting behavior. It's also typical to that they need to sleep quite a while after having a seizure. Since he's had two episodes that you know of, it's definitely time to see your vet. Try not to panic. I know seeing a seizure of any kind is extremely scary, but epilepsy in dogs can usually be well-managed with medications.
Avatar f tn I hope you are being prescribed this med by your OB/GYN. My nursing pharmacology book lists Zoloft TWICE under "Precautions!" I am not a doctor nor a pharmacist, but I would sure as hell get on the phone with my OB and discuss the use of this med while pregnant. As far as drinking milk with Zoloft, again my nursing book actually recommends drinking milk with the Zoloft if you're having any GI symptoms.
Avatar f tn He was placed on Keppra 500mg orally twice a day for seizure precautions due to the fall. He has been on the medication for approximately three weeks. He is tired, blah, and feels short of breath. I know it will take time to heal but do you know how long he should have to be on the medication and/or how long he will feel this way? I'm not sure how much activity to encourage. If you have any information or advice to ask the neurologist, I would greatly appreciate it!!
493068 tn?1224765315 Speaking as a novice and non-scientist, I don't see how you could infect others with HCV if there is no HCV in your blood, unless you relapsed. Given the stigma, though, it seems inevitable that there are on-the-ground worries all around, whatever the facts. The legal and scientific implications on the one hand and people's deep-seated reservations on the other are not the same thing.
Avatar f tn If I wanted to go back to school and get a degree in Nursing, would anyone hire me?? My history: Treated in 06-07. Was caught early, and treated successfully. Do I disclose this information to academic advisor?
Avatar m tn i never had an outbreak before, only one week ago i had a little white pimple in my penis so i poped it but that was it. it was not in the head. it was in the shaft. so can it be possible that antibodies of varicella got the test mixed up?
Avatar n tn It would depend on the cause of the seizures. Also some medications can lower the seizure threshold including many antipsychotics but only a doctor or psychiatrist would understand this in full. It would be worthwhile to discuss these concerns with them and what the appropriate means of follow up would be.
Avatar f tn it all depends. if you do its not that serious. your in control of your body. if you want to use condoms to protect you from unwanted pregnancys and std. thats up to you. if he doesnt like it.
Avatar f tn What are the precautions that should be taken for oral sex when both partners have hsv2? Is oral sex even possible without transmitting hsv into oral hsv?
Avatar n tn My 14 y/o granddaughter became a cheerleader this year. In 9/2009 in the early morning as she was dressing for school, she passed out and was taken to the ER because she hit her head. Initial ER diagnosis was that the problem was due to vagal response. Presenting symptoms included recent sinus infection and ear infection, severe constipation, headache, jaw tightness and pain, and abdominal pain.
Avatar n tn Also, what MANY MANY MANY people in the field tend to forget is that the consistent use of universal precautions will protect you in just about every situation. Don't get "caught up" when you find out a patient is HIV +, because for every pt that you KNOW their status, there will be several that you do NOT. You must treat everyone the same...and protect yourself against RISKS, not certain PEOPLE.
Avatar f tn most of the stuff you use will be a weak strain of something, or like one expeirment we did was, we swabed the lab table, someones face, the girls bathroom doorknob and put in in incabeter to see if something would grow. You would be fine, a preggo woman working in hospital or nursing home has a greater risk of getting something and they tell them to use universal precautions.
Avatar n tn The nursing profession is in deep trouble if you are posting on a peer website to study for a test!
Avatar f tn While at one of my children's basketball practice, my other two boys were running around and playing. At some point my three year old was on the ground, lying on his side and his whole body shook for about 5 seconds. His eyes were open and he had a scared look on his face. After he shook, he then began to cry. He quickly recovered and when asking him questions he said that the floor was going down. He also did a gesture like spinning to describe.
Avatar f tn If that is the case, with removal of the meningioma, seizures will in most cases stop. In some patients, anti-seizure medications are used for a while after the meningioma is removed. If your seizures are not due to meningioma, other possible explanations could include the effect of certain drugs which lower seizure threshold, sleep deprivation or alcohol which can precipitate seizures in someone prone to have them, a genetic predisposition to seizures, etc.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisolone can also aggravate pre-existing seizure disorder. Certain precautions that your physician would be taking care of are, using the lowest possible dose, for the shortest time, alternate day dosing can be followed if possible, and gradual withdrawal to limit the adrenal suppression. Usually a treatment for more than 3 weeks is taken as long term. I cannot advise the dose, which can cause neurological symptoms and side effects. Consult your physician for the needful in your case.
9650087 tn?1409135110 It happens all the time. (It has NOT happened to me.) Women are extremely fertile while in the first couple of months postpartum. It's dangerous for the body to begin another pregnancy so quickly though - it can result in low birth weight, preterm birth, gestational diabetes, and some other nasty stuff. Very very important to use protection after giving birth.
Avatar f tn As for many people who are elderly or people with disabilities they could live in the community and not have to live in a nursing home. At least that specific proposal became part of the health care reform law and that one regulation (taken alone) actually saves money and keeps people safe. As per people's safety in general sometimes its something as obvious as doctors remembering to wash their hands. Other times its one step in the whole procedure of an operation not being done correctly.
1747462 tn?1311609047 She had a difficult time nursing and still has a difficult time with a bottle. She is in the 5th percentile for her weight at 17lbs and has been put on a higher calorie diet. She has had 2 chest xrays (one stated she had fluid in her lungs), ECG's and one heart ultrasound, but none done with paediatric cardiology specialists and they've come back normal. She has fevers regularly that can last up to a week but has had blood work done and it comes back that there is no infection.
