Common Questions and Answers about Seizure precautions and first aid

seizure

Avatar n tn I had Epilepsy diagnosed and my first seizure at age 30 - my social life improved. I cared more about what my life and work was doing to me. My guess is that any beer or alcohol is hirting your son. An average seizure is over in within 5", though mine are longer. There is info on first aid for epilepsy. Definitely if he falls protect his head against anything hard or sharp. During or after a seizure he may have mucus which can be relieved by turning him to the side.
Avatar f tn Month ago I had a seizure while sleeping where I lost control on urination and i ignored it (I didn't even understand that this could be a seizure or what is a seizure!) , till now I had 3 seizures while sleeping but without urination problem and I got simple seizures while I am awake ( sometimes I just loss concentration and i just focus at nothing ) the Dr.
Avatar m tn He was completely fine before hand and then on the night of the 3rd he had 4 seizures about an hour apart from each. I took him to the vet first thing in the morning and he put him on diazepam 10mg twice a day, and a 5 mg dose of a digestion aid, (I think for him to not experience too much stomach upset on the meds). Anyway he is having extreme clumsiness, appetite and thirst on the meds and I'm worried they might be too high a dose?
Avatar n tn There is a cautionary note to alert the doctor if there is a history of seizures on Geodon. I am assuming that your psychiatrist is seeing both you and your son as his patients. ILADVOCATE gave you good advice to address your concern to the doctor. When prescribing meds or treatment, if there are any concerns or noteworthy precautions regarding the meds or treatment, information like instructions on what to watch out for and information is given along with the prescription of treatment.
Avatar n tn Hey I was wondering what types of precautions I would need to take if I work with someone who is HIV+. We share cups, first aid and a bathroom, so I was wondering if I should be worried or if I should get tested. Thanks, Jen.
401370 tn?1233324682 First of all, any officer of the law, in order to treat any inmate, has to be certified in CPR, First Aid, and alot of other procedures, and this is especially ONE of them! It's common in inmates who are detoxing cold turkey off of strong meds like morphine, and even worse on heroine!
Avatar n tn one can also have different types of seizures at the same time like generalized tonic clonic and absence seizure. These causes need to be ruled out and caution exercised in future. Anti epileptic drugs may not be required unless an organic cause is detected. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn I had a seizure this Monday and my EEg showed abnomal. The Dr. wants me to start trgretol xr 200mg for two weeks and then double it. I am not sure I want to try with the restrictions I now have plus the drug reactions. I'd like to hear from some epople who have been using this medication and living well with it.
Avatar f tn Stress causes seizures and different things I even get stressed out.
Avatar f tn This type of seizure usually begins with a blank or empty stare, and your awareness changes, even though the seizure does not involve convulsions. You may fiddle with clothes or nearby objects, wander around, and generally be confused. This type of seizure usually lasts 2-4 minutes and involves the temporal lobes of the brain, but may also affect the frontal and parietal lobes.
Avatar m tn I know that many cold remedies have Phenedrine and/or other stimlulants and I am wondering if any Afib patients out there take Nasonex or Flonase wihtout any problems.
Avatar f tn Have you been prescribed anti convulsants for the same? Have you been seizure free post medications or is the therapy and the dosages well titrated? if so, you could travel with the airway authorities apprised about your medical condition. You could also have a medic alert to generally make the onlookers more careful in case you throw a seizure during travel. If your seizures are not well controlled despite drugs, you must not travel.
18075342 tn?1462961588 Hoping that someone could help me. I am intending to do a first aid course from Rescue 7 in Toronto. The thing is that I have my grandma and grandpa at home and both are heart patients. So my mom advised me to do it to help them in emergency situations. The institute, that I mentioned here is near to my home and they provide following courses https://www.rescue7.net/training/. Which one should I choose in order to help them?
Avatar n tn Also would have sleeked some medical care from your doctor and have got investigated probably? An EEG and MRI brain would be necessary to know the seizure activity. Your doctor might brief you more on the precautions that you need to keep in mind while on work or driving. Take care and update on your progress.
Avatar m tn We live in a small community and every time my hub found me post seizure, he called 911 and the little hospital did not have a neurologist. Finally, hub demanded that they take me to U.C. Davis, a hospital that is a teaching facility. While there, they put electrodes on my head and managed to see 300 seizures in one half of one hour. Now I take seizure meds and do not seize. But that driving business, YOU know you should not be doing it. If you kill someone, that is on YOUR conscience.
Avatar m tn Me and my girlfriend are looking forward towards having sex ( first time for both of us ). but im a little concerned about how to wear and choose the right condom as i have an intact or Uncircumcised Penis. Avatar f tn I am 51 and am very frightened as last week I suffered my first ever seizure. It lasted about 30 seconds and I was just apparently staring glassily at my husband after shaking. I have been told I won't be able to drive for a year. My CT scan was clear though. I'm asthmatic as well, and at the time of seizure had been in intense pain from a urinary tract infection.
Avatar f tn Sorry your first post got lost ??? To answer your question ... yes it is fairly common to experience this following breast surgery and those nerves do NOT care to be cut or otherwise interferred with. To say how long this will last is almost impossible ... it varies from person to person or surgery to surgery. It may not all go away either but you do become accustomed to it after awhile.
Avatar f tn Did the infectious disease doctor do viral load and genotype testing? If you let your delivery doctor know your status, they will do everything possible to make sure the virus is not passed to your baby. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I was motivated to post this question because I have just recently completed my Standard First Aid and CPR training. There, we learned about seizures, and I had never really thought about having one until now. My problem is that this happened about eight or nine years ago. I was about nine years old, and I had stayed up late on New Years. I was perfectly fine one minute, but the next, I had blacked out, lost my vision, and felt really, really hot.
Avatar f tn Keep bystanders away Only one or two people are needed for first aid. Your child may feel upset and embarrassed when she becomes conscious if many people have been watching. Step 7: Do not give your child any water, food, or pills until the seizure is over and she is fully alert This will prevent choking. In some cases, your child’s doctor may have prescribed medications to be used at the time of the seizure; use it as directed.
Avatar f tn t seizures but it does have to do with his spinal cord and vertebra. When we took him he was better and what are vet tokd us was his vertebra is smaller than what it should be and sometimes depending on how he twist or turns he pinches his spine. Causing his head to tilt or legs not to work and so forth. Nothing we can really due.
Avatar n tn Having a seizure for the first time is very frightening. I too had a seizure for the first time in 2009. My seizures are complex and some of the symptoms your experiencing may be from a fear of having another seizure. With that said, you should see a Neurologist who specializes and treats epilepsy to make sure these symptoms are not different kinds of seizure or symptoms of epileptic discharges. Try to keep your blood sugar, stress and sleep patterns stable.
Avatar f tn He is 59 years old in good health and sees his doctor twice a year. He has high cholesterol and takes meds for that and vertigo but over than that he is in great health. He weights more than he ever has and is quite heavy currently. He does walk occasionally but he is a minister and a counselor and sits for long hours most days. He is a snorer. Can someone give me some direction as to what he should do as he will most likely not think it worth an extra trip to his doctor.
1484208 tn?1288454979 The first time I had RAI I isolated myself at home and the second time was at a motel but they were affiliated with the hospital and I made sure they knew in advance that I would be radioactive. They took what precautions they needed to and allowed me to stay on a ground floor room. In my honest opinion no matter where you stay you put people at risk, whether it be your family at home or those that stay in the hotel room after you (unless precautions are taken).
Avatar n tn My temperature had dipped to 92 degrees and I was convulsing trying to keep warm. I teetered in and out of consciousness until, with the aid of heated blankets, my temperature began to rise. The overwhelming pain lasted the usual 30 or so minutes before subsiding. The next day I was incredible exhausted, very weak and ran a fever all day. When I've had the cyst before they've been accompanied only by intense pain. Never seizure symptoms or the erratic dip in body temperature.
