Avatar f tn The government reported that net holdings of long-term securities, which includes the debt of U.S. companies as well as government debt, rose $140 billion in March, the largest one-month gain on record. It surpassed the old record of $135.8 billion in May 2007. The big increase was influenced by two factors: a flight to safety by investors increasingly worried about the debt crisis in Europe and a rebounding U.S. economy that has made American corporate debt more attractive to foreigners.
148588 tn?1465778809 The Federal Reserve cannot accept defaulted securities as collateral. And trillions of dollars of other financial contracts are built on the bedrock of Treasury bonds. It doesn't take much of a tremor to start breaking windows. What’s more, the investors around the world who buy American debt every day would demand higher interest rates to lend the U.S. money. If you’re like most Americans, you keep a closer eye on the Dow Jones industrial average than the interest rate on U.S. debt.

1310633 tn?1430224091 We all wanted everything to be bigger and better, faster and more convenient. Instead of paying off debt so many of us have just been increasing our credit limits. I am not certain if I agree with you that it went from boom to bust quite that quickly. I sort of see it as more of a slow slide over a longer period of time. But I guess that is less important then the fact that it's happened. But how in the heck are we going to get out of it. I know your gov't is cutting spending.
Avatar m tn I try to get plenty of rest (8 hours) a night. If I do not sleep during the night because of seizure activites, I sleep during the day time. I found out what foods that do not agree with me and avoid them and that helps too. I have bought an LCD monitor instead of a CRT monitor. That helps me, too. I do the flooding method outside my house in the drive way and my street in front of my home. Each day I walk as fast of a pace up and down in front of my house, each time trying to walk further.
148588 tn?1465778809 We have huge infrastructure needs, especially in water and transportation, and the federal government can borrow incredibly cheaply — in fact, interest rates on inflation-protected bonds have been negative much of the time (they’re currently just 0.4 percent). So borrowing to build roads, repair sewers and more seems like a no-brainer. But what has actually happened is the reverse. After briefly rising after the Obama stimulus went into effect, public construction spending has plunged. Why?
Avatar f tn The subsidy of the Social Security payroll tax to the government also includes the fact that $2.8 trillion of US government debt obligations are not in the market. If the national debt held by the public were $2.8 trillion larger, so would be the debt service costs and most likely also the interest rate. The money left over for war would be even smaller. More would have to be borrowed or printed. The difference between the $2 trillion in excess Social Security revenues and the $2.

Thornberry and Smith’s action raises the question of the role of public discourse. Of course, the discourse coming from government has always been skewed.

148588 tn?1465778809 That is quite apparent to anyone with a rudimentary understanding of our government and a basic command of the English language. Perhaps you meant to say - "If the republicans get enough votes in Congress". And if you had said that then my answer was responsive.
Avatar f tn Actually, what I read earlier is that the minute a state secedes from the union, all SS and Medicare payments, along with anything else coming from the Federal government would stop. That would mean that those of us on SS would not longer get our retirement benefits, and those on Medicare would instantly become responsible for all their own health care. There would be only state sponsored Medicaid for the poor.

His neuro is consulting with a rheum. this week and we continue to look. The only other test they might do is a spinal tap.
