1559533 tn?1308948561 Yes, anti-seizure medications (Tegretol, Gabapentin, Lyrica, etc) are used to treat neuropathic pain (things like Trigeminal Neuralgia or Dysthesias.) They can also be used to treat seizure disorders. They did not seem to effect my diagnosis. They did not effect my neuro exams, MRI, VEP, LP, etc.
Avatar m tn Hi there, i had a brain injury in feb and havent had any seizures yet but i was told in order to get back to driving/work etc i might have to take an anti-seizure medication. What medications are there? And i was told by someone else that they will slow down my recovery. because they are stimulants? in what way would they slow it down?
Avatar f tn The pain appears to get worse following seizure events. He has be having a run of CPS recently and the pain is becomming intollerable for him. No one can tell us why he is having so much pain or what is causing it therefore nothing is done for it. I have tried drugs like brufen and panadol and panadeine. He claims these do nothing and refuses to take them for that reason. I need to stop his pain somehow.

382218 tn?1341181487 Unfortunately because of the rules in this forum I cannot comment on all the off-label medications which we use, but suffice it to say there are many more and they usually fall under the categories of anti-seizure medications and antidepressants. I do not use cannibinoids, nor do I personally recommend them. As one patient in rural Pennsylvani said very correctly: "MS is a disease that affects the brain, so why would you want to take a medications that affects your brain?
1175033 tn?1492201228 I started taking Valium recently and noticed that the bottle warned not to consume grapefruit of the juice at all while taking this medication. This was a issue for me because I drink hansen's natural cane sugar soda with real grapefruit extract and I had to give that up, but I really didn't want to so I read up on what it will do. One article I came across said it would increase the potency of certain meds by 400% http://www.mayoclinic.
21064 tn?1309308733 I could really use your help. I am trying to compile a list of common heart medications for one of the Health Pages. So many times someone asks for suggestions, about side effects, etc. It would be great to have a place closeby where we could provide a hyperlink to more information on medications common for heart patients. Will you please help me by letting me know what medication(s) you are currently taking, or what medication(s) you would like to know more about?
Avatar f tn Robitussin and saline nasal spray. Mske sure there is nothing else in there.
Avatar m tn Make a list of any new foods, medications, vaccines, or even home that you may have moved into. It could be triggered by an alergy that you don't know about. NO BATHS water is a real danger if your seizures last that long.
Avatar f tn I have had an MRI both with and without contrast along with an EEG, all were negative. They have tried me on ativan, and several other medications; including neurontin. The medications lessen the severity of the "SLA's" but so far nothing has stopped them. They range from very mild to very severe with both tonic and clonic movements. The main area that is affected is my neck and shoulders/ arms but it also travels to my back, legs and into my face.
Avatar m tn The next thing i know my mother is having a seizure (she is not epileptic, and has NEVER had a seizure.) I ran out of the room screaming for the nurses... next thing i know a code blue is being called (after spending so much time in hospitals you know that- that means her heart has stopped.) An ICU doctor came out and told me that they suspected some upper GI bleeding and they were going to mover her to surgical ICU and probably have to do an edoscopy to stop the bleeding.
Avatar n tn This is because your husband is fine one day, but when he is given those first four medications for his sinuses, the next day he has a seizure. You can confirm this possible drug-induced seizure by doing an online search of each medication, for side effects and interactions, using the EXACT spellings as printed on your documentation. As for his needing to return to work, your husband almost died.

12182312 tn?1427683956 If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.".
327385 tn?1378360731 Thanks for the suggestion. A Seizure Tracker is on our list of to-do's. If you would like to share what you're tracking in your seizure diary, we'll be sure to include that information when we launch the tracker.
3547166 tn?1347814000 A tracker for seizures that can track the times of day episodes occur and how bad the episodes are. Also the type of seizure, seizure clusters, hospital visits, before and after symptoms like sleepiness and headache. Plus medications and changes to medication.
327385 tn?1378360731 Whether or not a seizure is partial (another term is focal seizure) from the onset helps determine which medications should be used. Dilantin is a good medication for focal seizures, but it has its side effects and there are medications with less side effects for long-term treatment of epilepsy.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the suggestion. We do have a seizure tracker on our list of tracker requests and we'll let you know when it's available. However, we will not be making a recommendation on when you should call a doctor. This site is not intended to give specific medical advice...only your doctor can do that. You should be working with your doctor to determine when it's necessary to call them, but we'll provide the tool for you to track this data.
Avatar f tn Or one of the medications I was taking... like a seizure medication (for migraines) or the fact I am going off of effexor (anti-depressant) right now and probably experiencing some withdrawal symptoms (i've been going off of that drug for a very long time now... it's really difficult). But yeah. I think I experienced something like this yesterday. I described my experience really in detail in my other post...
148588 tn?1465778809 But then, also, when I ordered my meds ( Pegasys, Ribavirin and Victrelis) from the Specialty Pharmacy, I spoke with a very nice Pharmacist, who also asked me to list any and all medications I was on.
