Hi - i have a 7 year old french bulldog ... who is truly my soul! Calvin Coolie is wonderful. Someone had given me him a few years ago - and i did know that he had seizures. Hes on pheno 1 grain bid, and 400mg potasium bromide sid. I was just wondering if anyone has a dog with seizures - and what they do for them. Calvin had 2 seizures last night - but the time he had them before that was june of 07. Its just that they are horrible. Usually they are in clusters, about 15 min. apart ...
Also, I wanted to know if anyone has tried Keppra for seizure activity in dogs and if so, how did that work? Our 6 year old French Mastiff had a seizure on Thursday night - first one ever. He walked across our bedroom floor, stood in front of our open door and acted like he saw someone in the hallway. I sat up and said "Archie, there is no-one there. Go back to bed." Then he looked like he was rubbing his shoulder on the clothes hamper and I thought it looked really weird.

I am a 30yo woman of 100% French Canadian ancestry. I have had increasingly worsening parasthesias in my hands, feet, arms and legs. It feels like electric shocks and needles stabbing the soles of my feet and my arms and hands. Occassionally the numbness and tingling effects parts of my torso neck or face. A recent EMG shows no nerve damage. Though a sleep study shows a lot of limb movement at night, the numbness,pain and tingling are not limited to my legs and is not relieved by movement.
Last night I had a dream about chocolate milk and french frys...I remember dipping the fries into the milk in my dream...yucki....all day today I couldn't stop thinking about chocolate milk...the fries I could care less about. I settled for strawberry nesquick....it's all we had..
My 11 year old son suffered a local seizure in left leg followed by a general seizure in 3 hrs. he was suffering frm high fever and was on malaria drug along with doxycycline. his reports like MRI, veinography, CFS, EEG AND OTHER BLOOD TESTS R NORMAL.what could be the reason of seizure? will it repeat. what r the precautions to be taken.
Last year after marriage the frequency increased. Thrice in 3 months. We went to a different doc. He said that he had primary generalized seizure or a right right frontal focus with hemispheric bisynchrony. He also said that carbamazepine is not right medication for it so slowly changed it to kepra. My husband dint have seizures for 5 months. After carbamazepine was completely stopped and he was completely on kepra , he got seizure. He takes 3700 MG ok kepra per day.
Then in the early evening, he had a major seizure. This time, he had three of them in a row, and afterward, was back to lethargic. As money is tight because of Christmas, we had no money to take him to the vet until today. He has been lethargic ever since Saturday morning, will only eat beef and rice that I make him and not much of it, he's drinking some water and using the bathroom outside like normal, but all he wants to do all day is sleep. I recently engaged in french kissing with a random girl whom I just met at the bar in Los Angeles. Just after she started kissing me I tasted blood in my mouth and ran to bathroom, holding the fluid in my mouth without swallowing to spit it out. I hold it approximately 3-4 minutes in my mouth than spitted out as there was as I waited for another person to get out of washroom.
The vet said she had an epileptic seizure and gave her some Valium for me to give her if she has another seizure. All has been well until tonight(10-13-08). I was reading on the net that dogs do not have epilepsy, it is strictly a human condition. I want to believe my vet but.... Will you please explain to me what causes seizures in dogs and what I can di to prevent it?
Not knowing a seizure happened is very normal. You should probably get him an EEG that would give you the most information. Just understand that we don't know a lot about the brain, so knowing why someone has a seizure isn't something that can be answered. Do not take what I'm saying in place of what a doctor will tell you. I want to stress that I'm not a doctor.
Our youngest daughter, who will be 8 in March, had a seizure induced by a fever in early November. The seizure lasted about a minute or less and she was convulsing and lost consciousness. Has he seen in a neurologist?Not just in the ER, I mean, but for a more extensive workup. It's not impossible that he has a seizure disorder (e.g., some form of epilepsy) that is not related to his diabetes. An electroencephalogram (EEG) could be helpful, even, if necessary, a 24-hour one if they couldn't otherwise catch the seizure activity. Good luck.
