Avatar m tn If I understand you correctly I think you may have more of a serious hangover as withdrawal effects. But withdrawing from alcohol can be very serious. If you continue to feel really bad I would suggest you going into an ER and telling them the whole deal. Hope you feel better soon. You should if you do not continue to drink.
Avatar f tn Hi. Have you heard of Alcohol withdrawal seizures ? When you don't get alcohol for even a day, the body starts showing withdrawal symptoms like tremors. Some people are more prone to seizures than others, for unknown reasons. I think your husband has Alcohol withdrawal seizures. The ultimate aim of the treatment will be to take him off alcohol, slowly and steadily. The doctors probably want to note seizure activity in his brain when he is not drinking.
Avatar n tn seizures from alcohol-relationship withdraw had seizure March 7 ( 2) and again March 14 (3) was in hospital for 10 days, ER/ MD put me on Dilantin, ordered new EEG,had June 15, normal reading. after review of EEG, had my drivers licence pulled and ordered another EEG. for mid Aug/early Sept. MY QUESTION is why, when these seizures are alcohol withdraw related, not epilepsy. I have been dry since that day of March 7 and do go to A/A I'm male, age 51...
Avatar n tn According to all the information I can find on the internet, alcohol does not cause seizures unless the alcoholic is in withdrawal, usually 24-72 hrs after the alcohol is consumed. However, my wife only has seizures during her drinking binges, and never when in withdrawal. Almost like clockwork, I can tell when she is going to have a seizure by how much she drinks. 1.5 pints of hard liquor = seizure. As one might expect, she denies that her drinking has anything to do with her seizures.
Avatar m tn I did this a few weeks ago, (albeit after I had a withdrawal seizure--- so go ASAP!) and she gave me a tapering dose of Ativan as a detox. My seizure happened on 3rd or 4th day after I quit. Also, they'll lecture you about AA, but just nod and take the pills lol.
Avatar f tn But as you allude, excessive alcohol consumption as well as acute withdrawal from alcohol consumption can both lead to seizures. Alcohol withdrawal seizures are usual between 1-7 days after stopping alcohol. That said, if you have a predisposition to seizure, other things can increase the likelihood you may be seizing now (e..g infection, alcohol, lack of sleep, stress, etc).
Avatar m tn And believe it or not, you experience mild alcohol withdrawal during the night after you drink more than two drinks of alcohol (hence the disrupted sleep). So, the risk depends on how much more than two drinks you have....

Avatar m tn Most seizures related to opiate withdrawal have other factors in play like other drugs/alcohol or illness/disease. 85% are caused by simultaneous withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazapine, 11% by pre-existing conditions such as epilepsy...ect, the remaining 4% are undetermined but there is a consensus throughout the medical field that opiate withdrawal alone can cause seizures in rare cases. Especially going cold turkey off a high dose of choice opiate.

Avatar m tn I have been drinking heavily for years but after one year of sobriety relapsed and had been drinking heavily off and on for about 2.5 mos. After a particularly heavy binge, I decided to quit cold turkey. The first day just felt like an excruciating hangover- not overly shaky but was definitely in withdrawal. I have had a seizure and the DT's one time receptively in the past.
