Avatar f tn //www.stroke.org/en/about-stroke/types-of-stroke/tia-transient-ischemic-attack It is a blockage that causes this and really important to treat. Let me know what you think or if there are any updates since you posted this.
Avatar f tn My MRIs/Scans this week did not show any signs that I had a stroke or bleed, so the neurologists are assuming I had a partial stroke. Can low potassium cause a stroke? I had a tooth pulled the day before my "seizuere" (only with novacain) and also had dental surgery the day before my stroke. Could dental (bone graft) surgery have caused my stroke?
Avatar m tn Hey guys i believe that i had a mini stroke this past friday but know on eis giving me the time of the day. the doctor was in and out within5 minutes. two of my fingers went numb followed by blurred vision. i went to call 911 and then couldnt speak and also had a hard time thinking. this was also followed my throwing up. since friday ive stuttered a little here and there. any thought as if you think it was a mini stroke?????
Avatar f tn blood pressure, but a slight blood clot got to the brain from the hole in the heart and caused a stroke 8 months ago. Last week he had a Tonic Clonic seizure this happened after a very active day of therapy for his left hand which is still not responding, hours at a the YMCa working out and working with his Saebolt which opens and closes the hand. He did have 3 beers the previous day with a buddy and his wife thinks that is what caused it, but the neuorologiest said no.
Avatar f tn The causes and effects they have on your brain health are different, strokes can look like seizures and seizure can look like strokes but a stroke occurs due to a disruption of blood circulation in the brain, a seizure occurs due to a surge of electrical activity in the brain....
Avatar f tn I would definitely have an EEG done to see about seizure activity. I have had a seizure disorder for the last 26 years. Most of the time mine were absence seizures. Unless people knew what they were looking for, they had no clue that I was having a seizure.
Avatar f tn oh and a normal eeg after an episode does not mean that it wasn't a seizure. I watched a girl have a full-blown grand mal seizure and she had an EEG just after, it was normal.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisolone can also aggravate pre-existing seizure disorder. Certain precautions that your physician would be taking care of are, using the lowest possible dose, for the shortest time, alternate day dosing can be followed if possible, and gradual withdrawal to limit the adrenal suppression. Usually a treatment for more than 3 weeks is taken as long term. I cannot advise the dose, which can cause neurological symptoms and side effects. Consult your physician for the needful in your case.
Avatar n tn Can I still have a seizure or a stroke even after 26 days off of xanax I was only on .
Avatar n tn I think you should also ask for an EEG (Electroencephalogram). It may not be a seizure, but a past history of stroke does predispose you for a seizure. Please keep me updated about your MRI.
Avatar f tn I know that untreated or uncontroled hypertension and heart conditions as arytmia can be factors of danger of stroke. The seizure is also an alarm you should pay attention too if you arenĀ“t epileptic. If you have a family historu of stroke it is another factor of danger. Do yourself a great favor and visit a neurologist right away...and see a cardiologist and do something about your arrymtia and artereal hypertension.
Avatar n tn So to those who have been following the birth and scary moments with my little Adam Dale, after more testing today we found out that he had a stroke during or shortly after delivery. They are not sure why but the long term prognosis is pretty good. Still scary as heck but at least we have answers. He seems to be doing really well and has not had any more seizures since early this morning.
Avatar n tn Seizures can be caused by alot of things - allergies, heat stroke, lack of sleep, malnutrition, skipping medication, other medical conditions, etc. sounds like you should get a full physical and a battery of tests. Between now and then keeping a journal for your doctors helps.
Avatar n tn Over the past 3 years i have had periodic black outs where i just collapse on the floor everything goes dark and i can feel a terrable pressure all around my head sort of like a head ache but everywhere the longest one i have had lasted about 4 or 5 mins and led to a short seizure. I am just tired of this happening it happens at least once a day and at most four times a day i have had a seizure every month for the past six months.
Avatar f tn I had a grandmal seizure and has been seizure free for 12 years. Currently on 750mg of kepra and 20 mg clobazem. In august I had and episode where the left side of my body went numb, my face drooped and I was unable to speak for 2 hours. I also experienced sharp pain at the back of my left year and my skull. The hospital tests CT, ECG, EKG and bllod work showed no stroke.
Avatar m tn * She had a stroke (or something similar) when she was six which may be related to the seizure. When she went to the ER she had a cat scan which showed some "calcifications" which may be left over from the stroke. * the ER docs did a whole bunch of neurological tests including eeg and all came back negative. * Because of the previous stroke the ER neurologist prescribed Keppra.
Avatar f tn My friend had a stroke and recovered well. 9 months later she had a seizure like episode. The doctor said that it could NOT have been a seizure because she remembered everything as it was happening. 4 months later the at same hospital she was taken in for exact same thing. A different neurologist diagnosed it as seizure from damage from the stroke in less than five minute. She received a cat scan upon arrival. Further scans confirmed his diagnosis.
Avatar m tn I have a friend who had a random seizure one morning after she had been vomiting and had diarrhea all night before. She also had not been sleeping well or at all some nights the whole month before. I took her to the emergency room and she had blood work done and a CT scan done both came back just fine. The doctor told her it was probably that she was dehydrated, and had lack of sleep that put too much stress on her brain. He also told her to consult a family doctor.
1618588 tn?1298861017 Hi there. The causes of excessive sweating are overactive thyroid gland, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, hypoglycemia, metabolic dysfunction, nerve damage due to diabetes, panic and anxiety states, etc. you had weakness and tightness of muscles and inability to speak. This could be a generalized tonic clonic seizure with the aura and post ictal phase.
Avatar f tn Hi. My dad is 63 years old, a survivor of 2 cardiac arrests, a stroke 5 years ago that was accompanied by a seizure. On Saturday he wasn't feeling well with a headache and then became unresponsive. He had a seizure in the ambulance and one in the ER. He was on life support for almost 2 days and thank goodness is is now awake and alert. His memory is very touch and go. He has come along way.
Avatar f tn can 20 years on dilantin after one seizure, then a stroke with no speech, cause terrible sideeffects?
Avatar m tn He needs to be checked for hypertension and diabetes along with ischemic heart disease, the most common causes for a stroke. MRI would also help in figuring out if there has been a subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to a ruptured aneurysm, which would need to be clipped urgently. EEG needs to be done to check for seizures. Is he exposed to sunlight adequately? He could have drug induced ( chronic use of antiepileptics)or age related osteoporosis and osteomalacia causing instability.
Avatar n tn CT scan showed seizure activity, but MRA and MRA came back negative for stroke. She was sent home after 2 days and a physical therapist was sent to the house to help her recuperate her motor skills and strength. She did not improve in these areas, nor did her memory improve. Saturday of this week, she began again with the same symptoms, intense eye pain followed by pain to entire left side, confusion, loss of memory and loss of motor and language skills.
Avatar n tn It does sound like a seizure - the problem is figuring out if the seizure directly contributed to his death, or if it was an underlying condition that caused both the seizure and death. It could have been a stroke, or even a heart problem. Any time oxygen is reduced to the brain, seizures become possible. Any chance he could have developed heart worms?
5466288 tn?1410485185 I was taken by ambulance to the ER.Every test done to check blood sugar, the heart, and for possible stroke, turned out normal. So I was diagnosed with vertigo, given a prescription for Antivert and rehydrated by IV since I was a little dehydrated.I forgot to mention that my blood pressure was VERY HIGH,although just two weeks prior it was very good.My question is could I have had some sort of seizure while sleeping, that left me with the vertigo and HBP? FYI,I have grand mal epilepsy.
