Common Questions and Answers about Seizure causes infants

seizure

Avatar f tn Hello. You have done a good job by bringing this to the forum. There is a possibility of a partial seizure. But you should also consider something called as eye tics. These are not so uncommon in infants. You may need to get an EEG done. A video EEG is preferred. It has the advantage of letting us see the brain waves during such an episode or up rolling of eyes. Did he have any significant birth complications?
Avatar n tn My daughter lays on the floor and tenses/stretches her legs. Her whole body becomes stiff (not her arms). My pediatrition says it could be infant masterbation but she is not touching herself or rubbing on anything or humping. She just clenches her buttocks in and out. It looks a bit like a seizure but she tracks and is alert. She does this for long periods of time. This doesn't cause her any discomfort except if I try to stop it. What is this?
Avatar m tn ACTH therapy is given for seizures in infants (infantile seizures) not controlled by usual seizure control medications. Usually these infants suffer from epilepsy related syndromes such as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Landau-Kleffner syndrome. Mild variants of such seizures may improve with ACTH. In severe cases there is not much hope. I am sorry, but please continue your follow up at NIMHANS. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi, my daughter got febrile Seizure 3 times within 24 hours. After a month, she got 2 episodes in 3 days gap. Doctors suggested to give Levipil 100ml syrup 1ml in morning and 1 ml in evening. She is not having further seizures in last 2 months now. Is it the correct medication? How much time we need to continue this medication? Any known side effects of Levipil for infants?

Avatar f tn They can be managed by identifying the food that causes the issue in the brain (such as the seizure). In your case, she is only 11 weeks and milk/formula/ breast milk is the only food that she is taking, unless her doctor already took her off the milk based food. This is very easy to replace with a non-milk food type. Good luck and God bless your baby. I know what you are going through.
Avatar f tn You really need your pediatric neurologist to evaluate your baby for the type of seizure. My newborn had seizures during his first week and is on seizure control meds (phenobarbitol) to control it. Seizures were different, however. Try not to worry, you probably need medications to control them. They might want to do an MRI and CT scan to verify any brain damage...
Avatar f tn Partner had a stroke april 21 but only this last 6mths she has had 1/2 episodes where she has gone to laugh and had one i would describe as a seizure - she stares and goes red as though struggling to breath then 10ish secs later she is absolutely fine- anyone else had similar
Avatar f tn Ever since my Neurologist started taking me off my anti seizure meds, I've started getting these brain spasms, I guess you could call them that anyways. They only happen on days I'm not on my meds. For example, last week when I tried not to take my meds for the first time, I had a really bad brain spasm where my entire brain kinda froze, and my body jolted and I dropped everything I was holding. I had many more of those and had to go home from school.
Avatar n tn When this happens, the insulin acts as a growth factor. It causes these babies to be larger than normal. It also causes the heart muscle to become thicker. Sometimes the LVH can be so bad as to obstruct blood flow out of the heart; it doesn’t sound like this was the case with your son, though. After he was born, the elevated supply of sugar was stopped. His pancreas, with time, stopped putting out as much insulin.
Avatar n tn Many people experience a once off seizure (I think it's something like 1% of the population) Were you doing anything at the time that could have triggered it? The only thing you can do at the moment is wait for the EEG results and that will determine where you will go from here.
797314 tn?1237600360 She is now 4 months and she went 2 months without any seizure activity up until about 2 weeks ago, at the time she was on phenobarbital but she seemed to have broken through the med. When we get to the hospital they do as many tests as possible but the whole time I was there I never got any answers to my questions.....The day they discharged her I told them she was not normal she was not picking up her head or being active at all.....

Avatar m tn If GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, how does diazepam can cause anti-depress? I heard that it can treat seizure? Seizure is a disease that is over-stimulation, repetitive, uncontrolled neuronal firing in CNS. May I know how does it treat seizure? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hello! I'd like to ask what can cause a bulging eye, besides TED and a space occupying mass in the orbit? I don't want to know all the causes, I imagine there could be many, but TED and cancer have been excluded and I'm still trying to understand what is causing it. Can the eye muscles get inflamed without no reason? Or can the eyeball ITSELF get bigger? Also, can you develop TED when you have a normal functioning thyroid or you actually have an under-active thyroid? Thank you!
Avatar f tn t not even come close to sounding the same. My son would projectile vomit, but no seizure like symtoms. He went on meds & is fine now. I would get a second opinion. I wish you all the best.
Avatar m tn I don't think people who have a seizure remember the seizure, but he definitely had something. Maybe it's a thyroid problem. He needs to be seen, but an ER is the slowest, most expensive and least efficient way to do it.
Avatar f tn Stress causes seizures and different things I even get stressed out.
419158 tn?1316571604 I think my 4 month old had a seizure tonite. He is fine now or eles I would be at the hospital. I plan on making him an appointment tomarrow........... But my question is for mothers who have had childrenn with seizures. What are the signs and symptoms?? MY son started crying kinda funny, I dont how eles to explain it except that it was like he couldnt cry, when I picked him up he got jerky in my arms and got stiff. He started foaming at the mouth, kinda like a rabitt dog. The whole time crying.
458594 tn?1206301123 This would involve bloodwork to check for metabolic, endocrine and infectious causes and other blood tests such as a Lyme,or Ehrlichia check. His heart would also need an evaluation, since syncope can appear as a seizure. Other causes of seizures are abnormalities in the brain either from trauma, or a lesion in the brain.
Avatar f tn It could be epilepsy, but the fact that, from the way you mentioned it, the head banging somewhat woke you up does not point toward a seizure because usually when you come out of a seizure, you are confused, extremely tired, and sore. Also, you wouldn't be able to be woken up from the head banging. Although, the fact that the shower nob held up your head by hair would be suspicious of something more than fainting...
Avatar n tn I'm curious if your son is still having the same problem. My son also has a very similar problem. He makes a sound like he is gasping for air or a really really bad hiccup. I have observed him doing it in all positions. @18 months we had a sleep study done and he was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. @2 we had his tonsils and adenoids removed.
Avatar f tn When an adult gets it the cough sounds like a whoop sound and for children especially infants its deadly practically for infants they get a fever can't breathe coughing something like ammonia but way worse
Avatar f tn I have double vision and blurred vision at times, I don't know why. I have epilepsy (absence and grand mal seizures) but this doesn't seem like a absence seizure as I am still aware when it is happening. I can only see clearly when I close one eye... Help and advice please.
Avatar f tn Dear MSHanson, The most common cause of high blood pressure in infants is kidney disease. Since your daughter has congenital heart disease, it would be important to ensure that she doesn’t also have an associated coarctation, or obstruction, of the aorta, the main artery that takes blood from the left side of the heart out to the head, neck, and rest of the body. This should have been evaluated by an echocardiogram when the rest of the heart was seen.
Avatar f tn I would definitely have an EEG done to see about seizure activity. I have had a seizure disorder for the last 26 years. Most of the time mine were absence seizures. Unless people knew what they were looking for, they had no clue that I was having a seizure.
Avatar n tn Should I be concerned if looking at a bright light causes my vision to "kaleidoscope"? This usually resolves in about 15 minutes.
