smoking

203342 tn?1328737207 If someone has just smoked a cigarette and they reek of smoke can breathing that in be harmful or is it not enough to worry about? I'm asking because I get frustrated with my husband because I've asked him not to hold our son right after he's smoked and yet he persists in doing this. I can be grateful, at least, that he does take the smoking outside but he'll come in and pick him up and hold him or sit on the floor and play with him right after he's smoked.
Avatar f tn Even second hand smoke can be harmful. Ask them to smoke outside and not around you. Visit smoke free houses. Just the smell can make some women nauseous.
1117137 tn?1345227905 is it just me or is second hand smoking SO annoying? i think my radar is just super tuned in right now, but it seems like people just light up and leave their used butts, everywhere! i understand that it is a free world, but i guess i just find it even more bothersome, now that i have another life to support inside me. i will go as far as pulling my shirt over my face as i walk by it, and i don't care who sees that or what they think.
Avatar f tn Oh and my older two have asthma and I didn't smoke ANYTHING with them and was NEVER around second hand smoke, my youngest does NOT have asthma and I smoked a bit with him (primarily oils though). My first two were also preemies yet my last was fullterm born 2 days before his EDD.
Avatar f tn my bf smokes not inside but I still smell it off his clothes n if I go to a bbq at a family member house I have second hand smoke. ..I try n walk a way cus I know its bad to breath that in...all I think about is having one I'm craving it...what should I do ...
2006603 tn?1331329327 There are many risks with second hand smoke exposure even for ppl who are not pregnant. Second hand smoke can cause under developed lungs, increase the chance of sids, low birth weight, baby can develop asthma and a bunch of other things too. Its good your fiance doesn't smoke in the house or around you but he should get into the habbit of not smoking in the car either. The nicotine can settle into the fabrics which is the same as smoking a cigarette while being in the room with the baby.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much. I really never drank before and didn't do drugs so my only thing is my smoking. But the other problem is that if second hand smoke causes the same thing, my Child's father and I live together and he smokes a pack a day or so and doesn't plan on quitting. So as for now that is my milestone. It's hard to quit when you're around it constantly.
Avatar f tn I seat down and basically told him the results for second hand smoking and how that was much worse than actually smoking. So we came to the agreement that he would just smoke outside when we come over & he want smoke around me. So just look up the facts on second hand smoking then present your facts to your family & let them know your concerns regarding your unborn child.
Avatar f tn Of course, smoking a few butts every week is better than a back a day, but not smoking at all is the best solution!!
Avatar f tn Smoking is extremely harmful to an unborn baby (and as happynifer mentioned, second hand smoke is equally harmful), but it can also lower your chances of conception. It does impact fertility. Good luck to you...I know it is really really hard, but you can do it!!
Avatar n tn Ive tried explaining to him that second hand smoke can be just as harmful but he doesnt wanna believe me. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it in his head that its important that he stops? Has anyone been thru a similar situation? How bad is second hand pot smoke?
Avatar f tn Ppl has been telling me that even if i don't smoke, is like second hand, an can affect the bb
Avatar f tn You and baby are fine unless the smell makes you physically ill.
Avatar n tn t tell they were until this lady literally exhaled the smoke almost in my face as she walked by and I definitely inhaled some second hand smoke -- it was that strong. I literally had to get off the phone and ask them were they serious. I just got a new job and will be expected to take a drug test next week. I normally wouldn't think much of that episode, but am somewhat concerned because I definitely inhaled some of the second hand smoke as they walked by.
Avatar f tn Honestly it's not good to be around cigarette smoke. Second hand smoke does its damages too and there is no guarantee that it wouldn't hurt the baby. It's quite probable that being around it, because it does definitely hurt you, will also hurt the baby. Really what smoking does is making the baby at risk for premature birth, low birth weight, potential weight problems as a child/adult, risk of ADHD and ADD, among other things.

9126885 tn?1404418392 so, doctors will obviously recommend that a woman not smoke during pregnancy. But second hand smoke is probably more along the lines of the first poster. The same as being around second hand cigarette smoke. Not great but not like smoking it yourself. Once should be fine.
Avatar f tn To even go around that while pregnant is dumb. Yes second hand smoke is horrible for you and the baby. Cigarette smoke can cause early or even stillborn babies. Imagine what marijuana smoke could do. Even if you are not smoking it the baby is still exposed.
Avatar f tn I am not here to be the judge and jury and I understand that smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). That is only the start of a difficult life of a parent. So, let me give you the facts that you probably already know, but they are important to repeat.
Avatar f tn Look if you're that worried about your baby then seriously just stop going over there. Think about it if you will. You either be alone or go to your grandma's where you will inhale second hand smoke which is way worse than smoking itself. It's terrible that your gma is like that but if she is indeed like that then just stop going over there. She obviously doesn't care to stop so just stay home and try to stay occupied. Your babies health is of the utmost importance.
9663463 tn?1407525554 Thankfully my husband quit along with me when we found out we were expecring. But m mother in law on the other hand is selfish +although she claimed she's so proud of us,she still lights up right next to me, or if we're at her house she'll smoke inside even when we're there..then she gets super pis sed when my husband says something to her. Like its putting her out to not smoke aroundme lol.
Avatar f tn s risk of developing respiratory (lung) problems. Second hand smoke has been shown to be just as harmful. Cannabis has been shown to lower the user's IQ (intelligence) by about 10 points, so it is most likely negatively affects fetal brain development. I do hope that you are eating right and exercising but you also want to stay away from all unneeded drugs and alcohol while you are pregnant and nursing or mothering young children.
7366593 tn?1400009626 Not only is the action of smoking itself is detrimental to the health of the baby, but we do not know how cannabis intake can affect the developing brain.I understand that smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). That is only the start of a difficult life of a parent.
Avatar f tn s risk of developing respiratory (lung) problems. Second hand smoke has been shown to be just as harmful. All of this information should be enough reason for you to quit for the sake of the baby and I know plenty of pregnant women who did it "col turkey", which studies show works better then all pharmaceutical interventions. I am not sure what pill you are talking about, but I assume that it is Chantix, whis is not safe during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Yay for slowing! I've never smoked but my mother smoked with me and I'm fine. The worst I have to deal with is asthma, and that's from her still smoking after I was born. Second hand smoke did more damage to me personally than her smoking in pregnancy. Keep up the good work, you got this!
Avatar f tn There can always be problems with pregnancy even in the best of circumstances, but all you can do is keep good attitude and take the best care of yourself. That is what any one of us can do, the rest is not up to us, is it? Everything should work out just fine with good prenatal care. Beat of luck. Dr.
Avatar f tn When chewing or using your mouth your brain cuts out the emotion from thought drastically this is why people find smoking a releif in the first place oral fixation gives you an unknown mental break :) if you just breathe and remember you dont want to smoke foe your babys health then chew some gum and distract yourself you will be there in no time :) keep up the good work xx
Avatar f tn I was told by my doctor not to quit smoking cold turkey because the stress you will endure from that is more likely to harm the baby then the smoking itself. The baby does not get the most harmful part which is the crap you are inhaling into your lungs; just the nicotine, or in this case HTC. I am not telling you to light up a blunt everyday but a happy you makes a happy baby.
