Second hand smoke in apartment buildings

Common Questions and Answers about Second hand smoke in apartment buildings

smoking

Avatar f tn No, a humidifier isn't likely to help. Sounds like you'll have to find a new place to live as soon as possible, even if that isn't before your new baby arrives. Unless of course it's illegal to smoke in multi-unit (apartment) buildings where you live, in which case you could always try going to court and fighting to try to make her stop. But I don't see that ending well, honestly.
1096641 tn?1271707225 Here in NYC they are making huge apartment buildings that will prohibit smoking! Some of the existing apartment building will only allow non-smoking new tenants and some will let those who are already smoking renters continue to live there but once they go, it becomes a non-smoking apartment. I am glad I quit when I did!
Avatar f tn I am currently 21 weeks pregnant, my neighbours in my apartment building smoke crack cocain and it travels through the vents. Will this have an effect on my pregnancy? does anyone know where i can find info online about this? Help me please.
10256164 tn?1408981241 Ok so iv never smoked in my life never even really been around it so when people smoke it makes me feel sick even b4 I was pregnant. The past few days my neighbors have need smoking in their apartment and my whole apartment reeks of smoke. It's kinda hard for me to breathe. I woke up with a nose bleed and I keep throwing up.
Avatar f tn I have never lived in an apartment can you vacuum and play music ? Without your neighbors hearing?
2006603 tn?1331329327 There are many risks with second hand smoke exposure even for ppl who are not pregnant. Second hand smoke can cause under developed lungs, increase the chance of sids, low birth weight, baby can develop asthma and a bunch of other things too. Its good your fiance doesn't smoke in the house or around you but he should get into the habbit of not smoking in the car either. The nicotine can settle into the fabrics which is the same as smoking a cigarette while being in the room with the baby.
Avatar f tn It won't hurt your baby but second hand smoke will be in yours and your baby's system. I used to smoke too with my husband but we both quit for baby because some women have been lucky and it hasn't affected them but some have had problems. So just to be safe I would ask your man to not do it around you. When they say you have to make sacrifices for your baby unfortunately this is one of those things you just shouldn't risk. It's not worth complications with baby.
Avatar f tn he want smoke around me. So just look up the facts on second hand smoking then present your facts to your family & let them know your concerns regarding your unborn child.
Avatar f tn Honestly your grandma sound selfish I would lay down the law because at the end of the day it's all about your baby just tell your grandma that if she has to smoke in the car then you can't drive and if she continues to smoke in the same area as you, you gotta get up and leave that room go outside and get a dehumidifier to help get rid of the smoke just try and stay away from her and her bad habits
Avatar f tn No second hand smoke in the house increases the risk of SIDS. Pull up info and make them a slideshow of how bad smoking is for the new baby.
Avatar f tn When I go to visit my mom... second hand smoke... and I b*tch at her to go away or to not smoke at all when I'm there and I try to go In another room but can still smell It. My boyfriend smokes too (he smokes weed though, to be honest) and I get whiffs of It (even though he'll be In another room with the door closed, windows opened, I still can smell It) I haven't had my baby boy yet but I'm 29+6 and had my last u/s at 28+6 and my baby was perfectly healthy.
Avatar n tn t think much of that episode, but am somewhat concerned because I definitely inhaled some of the second hand smoke as they walked by. Any chance this could show up in a test? Since I was exposed to the smoke and felt that I inhaled it, I am trying to figure out how the smoke would not be able to affect a drug test with a false positive. Thoughts?
1117137 tn?1345227905 i hear you on the second hand smoke, and i used to be a smoker too, i quit the day i found out i was pregnant - and it wasn't hard cuz i had noticed a week before we found out they weren't doing anything for me- and actually making me turn "green" But my husband still smokes... and i can't stand it!!
Avatar m tn Tobacco smoke Smoking is by far the leading risk factor for lung cancer. In the early 20th century, lung cancer was much less common than some other types of cancer. But this changed once manufactured cigarettes became readily available and more people began smoking. About 87% of lung cancer deaths are thought to result from smoking. The risk for lung cancer among smokers is many times higher than among non-smokers. The longer you smoke and the more packs a day you smoke, the greater your risk.
Avatar f tn So, while I support individual rights, I do think people who choose not to smoke should be protected from second hand smoke, etc. And if you are in an apartment building or something, you can smell it walking past doors and in common areas. So I don't know, maybe it's not a bad thing?
1601804 tn?1297628981 When I went to see my doctor last time due to major health problems (not related to the smoking cause I had the same thing happen before when I was in a smoke-free house), I casually mentioned this to her, and she suggested I talk to the landlord because second hand smoke can lead to serious health issues in the longrun. So I did, and the landlord told me people are allowed to do whatever they want in their own rented unit.
Avatar f tn It is scientifically proven that cigarette smoke, even second hand smoke is very dangerous for the unborn child. Please do the research and make an educated decision about the health of your child.
Avatar f tn I'm 11 wks pregnant and my roommate smokes like a freight train! It's so hard to escape the second hand smoke. I know it's bad for anyone overall but definitely not fit for a pregnant woman!! Should I worry as much as I do about this issue???
203342 tn?1328737207 I was talking with my quit smoking coach yesterday and she told me this type of smoke (on clothes, in cars) now has a name - third hand smoke which can also be dangerous. Try going to American Cancer Society for more information. I bet they have something on this.
Avatar f tn its jus smoking & second hand smoke you jus gotta worry about. more of second hand smoke tho.
Avatar f tn Now that a lot more is known about second-hand smoke, I'm really curious if when I got married to a smoker if that didn't bring on my allergies. Within 1.5 years of being married and living with a smoker, I all of sudden developed severe allergies where I was waking up every 30 minutes because my nose was completely closed up. I became allergic to the world, there's no place I can move to alleviate it.
Avatar n tn My bf seen it and how the baby was trying to escape it in the stomach! Now he wont smoke in the car or let me go anywhere that has smoke. But he never smoked in the house in the beginning. He slowed down on his own...i tried not to nag him about it bc i didnt want him to smoke bc i was doing that.
