Avatar m tn Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches.

Avatar m tn I was told by my dermo that I had Seborrheic dermatitis. It was dry itchy and scaly under my beard, in the nose folds, ears and eyebrows. I was given desonate gel to use for 2 weeks and things calmed down. However now I just have a redness itchy forehead. I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?
Avatar f tn Hello, The other possibility that I has thought of was seborrheic dermatitis since the site involved is common for both eczema and seborrheic dermatitis and they closely resemble each other in physical appearance but the lesions of seborrheic dermatitis usually presents as yellow, flaky lesions. A biopsy skin and allergy tests can differentiate between the two and confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to comment precisely beyond this stage.
Avatar m tn In face the use of topical steroids on the rosacea may exacerbate the seborrheic dermatitis. Topical tacrolimus or pimecrolimus does not exacerbate acne rosacea and is very effective for thin plaques of seborrheic dermatitis. These are the agents of choice for the treatment of combined seborrheic dermatitis/rosacea. Hence you should first get the diagnosis confirmed and then get the treatment prescribed. You need to get it examined from a dermatologist.

Avatar m tn Hi, Redness noted in the nasal folds may be due to seborrheic dermatitis. You have noted that the lesions (allow me to call them lesions are actually like white spots that bleeds when you squeeze them. Seborrheic dermatitis may appear as greasy , scaling lesions that may affect the scalp and the areas behind the ears as well. Would you be able to note other similar lesions in the scalp, chest or behind the ears? Another differential will be an eczematous condition and a fungal infection.
Avatar f tn I have been researching this online and think it is seborrheic dermatitis. I have been using clotrimazole cream twice daily as suggested on the JUST ANSWER DERMATOLOGY site for 3 days now. My question is: what are the stages of healing of this problem? Now I have much more "crusting over" and it is very dry and more itchy than before beginning the use of the cream. By the description I've given do you think it is in the healing process? Thank you ahead of time for your opinion.

Avatar f tn Dear Doctor and all, I would be very grateful if you could tell me what the typical HIV rash look like. The only info I have is that it could affect any part of the body but usually the face and the trunk. But what I really want to know is whether it is always widespread. I have recently found about 10 tiny red dots on my chest. They are slightly raised, close together but not touching. They are not itchy at all, and the skin around them looks normal. Could they be HIV-related?

Avatar m tn Are there any redness or scaling over the affected area? The fact that only the left eye brow is affected may suggest that there may be an infection or inflammation going on. Have this assessed by your dermatologist. You may need topical medications for this. Differentials will be a fungal infection and seborrheic dermatitis.
