I have had dandruff on scalp since very long time. But recently due to some reason I have very bad acne on face. Fearing that those would leave me marks I went to dermatologist and was prescribed acne clear gel, hidrate lotion and adaferin gel. I have been using acne gel and hidrate lotion from one month my acne settled well. But from last 3 days I am getting very bad white flakes on face. My face is tight and some time applying lotion burns my face.
Is this the symptom of seborrheic dermatitis? is seborrheic can cause hair lost? i can see my the hair regrowth so far, but they are very thin.
s a red dot underneath, and if I use a drying soap, it looks like a crater later. I also get scabs and sore spots on my scalp, which a dermatologist told me was seborrheic dermatitis. Is this the same thing? Would it have spread to my face for some reason?

From the symptoms this problem of dry itchy scalp can be due to dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. But if your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.

The yellow waxy crusts on the scalp are due to dandruff and it can cause seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp and face. Use over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.

Hi, probably it is because of seborrheic dermatitis, you might be having acne problem. In some people, a yeast (fungus) called malassezia grows in the sebum along with bacteria. Antifungal treatments, such as ketoconazole (Nizoral), are often effective.

ve experienced extremely dry and flaky scalp. Can you look at these photos and tell me what it is? Dry scalp, dandruff, scalp psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis. The bad part is, I just washed my hair on Monday night. I washed it, conditioned it, put a little of olive oil (food-grade), then I braided my hair in about 8 plaits. I have to wash my hair every week b/c of my scalp. I'm unable to wear twist-outs/braid-outs or any hairstyle that requires me to wear my hair out.
I think you most likely have seborrheic dermatitis on both face and scalp. Your doctor can prescribe a cortisone-based scalp lotion, that works better on localized patches than shampoos do.

It can be due to dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales.
Seborrehic dermatitis, also called adult cradle cap is usually caused by overgrowth of Malassezia furfur. This skin disease is aggravated by sweating and humidity. I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist and get the diagnosis confirmed. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
For the last four years I feel itching, scaling and flakes on my scalp. Now only i came to know that this is Seborrheic Dermatitis. Because of this I lost almost 40% of my hairs. I learnt that this is a temporary hair loss.
I tried many shampoo's like selsun,scalpe etc. And also i have been intaking Glacex(B-complex vit) tablets long time. Still My problem is not resolved.

You might have seborrheic dermatitis on your scalp. I have it and if i don't shampoo my hair daily my head itches and gets alot of flakes. My derm suggested that I buy a shampoo containing ketoconazole. I use Nizoral, It doesn't clean very well but seems to deal with the flaking fairly well.

I understand that you are worried about this. Hair loss may be due to several things. A scalp condition such as seborrheic dermatitis which may be causing the dandruff appears to be the prime culprit in your case. Use the medicated shampoos only twice a week and in between, use regular shampoos .It is necessary that frequent and vigorous shampooing with a mild shampoo may be done. Application of topical corticosteroids may also be done if the dandruff persists despite the shampooing.
To anyone who can help. I have had a really bad case of scalp Seborrheic dermatitis for the past several years. I have tried everything under the sun to get rid of it and nothing will work. I have tried every kind of oil and shampoos.
It is covering my whole scalp and they are very thick scales that even makes my hair grow slow because it has to grow through these scales.
This "bout" of Seborrheic dermatitis started about 5 years ago.
