Common Questions and Answers about Seborrheic dermatitis scalp and ears

seborrheic-dermatitis

Avatar f tn Hi You might be suffering from scalp (seborrheic) dermatitis or scalp eczema or scalp psoriasis. The exact diagnosis depends on clinical examination. Seborrheic dermatitis presents as dry skin on the scalp, which flakes off (dandruff). The skin on the face, behind the ears, eyelids, nose and chest may also be affected. Symptoms of scalp eczema may include greasy yellowish scales that may turn flake off along intensely itchy and inflamed red scalp.
Avatar f tn Since that time I have confirmed Eczema in my ears and on my scalp. Although the ears and scalp are annoying the spots on my face are really bothering me. I work in a professional environment and even with makeup they do not look very attractive. Prior to this rash/spots on my face showing up, I was vacationing in the Caribbean and they have not gone away. Is there anything I can do? They are dry like Eczema but very red in colour and hard to keep hidden. Any suggestions???
Avatar n tn I have all the same symptoms as you but I dont have it on my chest and I have occassional flaking on my face or behind my ears, but the sides of my face, near the temples are very reddish and I dont see that much in Rosacea pictures which makes me think that you and me either have Seborrheic Dermatitis, or a combination of that and Rosacea.
Avatar f tn Now, My baby daughter (2 yrs) - has developed a mild to moderate case of seborrheric dermatitis in her scalp and behind her ears. Recomennded to wait a couple of weeks, if no improvement, treat with dandruff shampoo?. Anyway, my concern is that EVERYTHING I READ, including my doctor says SD in toddler's is exceedingly rare, and occurs PRIMARILY with HIV infection. Scaring me half to death. In your opinion, Is this the case? Is this cause for testing/ furhter testing?
Avatar f tn You seem to be having seborrheic dermatitis on your head. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.
Avatar m tn Hi, yes i have a problem concerning my ears and my scalp, my ears the skin on the inside and outside have become very dry and flakey so bad to the point i can pick off peices that are about an inch in size looks like a standard "flake" when i scratch and remove it it turns into a puss like substance. I can pick it, clean it, use a oil to keep it moist, but nothing seems to block it from coming back. the problem i am having with my scalp is basicaly the same situation.
1566037 tn?1304298609 Once that initial crazy rash went away, I continued to have horrible itching around my eyes and the crusty patches on my scalp got worse and spread around my hair line and behind my ears. Now months later, it is back to normal. Just the same mild redness around the nose and some patches on the scalp that I've always had. This was a one time thing and VERY strange to me and I am still concerned and worried about what would cause an explosive flare up like that?!
Avatar n tn In seborrheic dermatitis, the scalp is greasy and when severe may present with scales. The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is still unknown although yeast infections, stress and weather have been implicated. A dermatologist is the best person to consult with this. Vigorous and frequent shampooing is the mainstay of therapy more than the type of shampoo being used. So wash your hair frequently and scrub the scalp vigorously. Discuss this with your dermatologist.
Avatar n tn At this point, there is really no effective medical therapy for hair loss. If your hair loss is associated with tinea and seborrheic dermatitis then the underlying disorders need to be addressed first. Hair loss also has a genetic basis. Male or female pattern baldness may follow a hereditary pattern. Treatment of the tinea and seborrheic dermatitis may help resolve the hair loss. Creams may not be sufficient for scalp infections. You may need oral antifungal therapy.
Avatar f tn 15 years ago I developed seborrheic dermatitis in my ears and my groin. The first doctor prescribed a steroid cream and told me to wash my hair with dandruff shampoo and put a little of the suds in my ears and on my groin. The steroid cream worked for a couple of weeks and then stopped. A few years later a second doctor gave me samples of an anti-fungal cream and told me to use it. That did nothing. So basically I've been itching non-stop and clawing my body up pretty good for 15 years.
Avatar m tn Over the past couple of days my scalp has been flaking more than usual. But over the past day or two, my scalp and the back of my neck and my tops of my shoulders feel like it's gotten a light sunburn, but I haven't been out in the sun. I also noticed that the back of my scalp is red in a very splotchy (medical term...I know) fashion. Could this just be stress? I've been under alot lately...or is this actually something?
Avatar m tn s a red dot underneath, and if I use a drying soap, it looks like a crater later. I also get scabs and sore spots on my scalp, which a dermatologist told me was seborrheic dermatitis. Is this the same thing? Would it have spread to my face for some reason? Pictures: http://s577.photobucket.
Avatar n tn if someone has seborrheic dermatitis around his lips and chin, does it means he has HIV, or is seborrheic dermatitis a normal skin condition that affect many people.
Avatar m tn For the last four years I feel itching, scaling and flakes on my scalp. Now only i came to know that this is Seborrheic Dermatitis. Because of this I lost almost 40% of my hairs. I learnt that this is a temporary hair loss. I tried many shampoo's like selsun, scalpe etc. And also i have been intaking Glacex(B-complex vit) tablets long time. Still My problem is not resolved. Last four year i consulted many doctors (Skin specialists).
Avatar n tn This year summer it was ok but last 3weeks it is expanding and now I have on my ears and nose. I am really worried about my kids and I am 36yrs female. How to control this? I stopped eating sugars, oily food and carbs. Some times its too dry or too oily.
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Avatar n tn I have a quarter sized red inflamation on my scalp right at the top of my forehead. It itches and stings a little. But i've always had really bad dry scalp and dandruff. Also I noticed that my lymph nodes. (the ones behind my ears and at my jaw line are swollen. Its like raised bruises. I got some dandruff shampoo to hope that it will help but some people are telling me I should go to the doctor. I'd like to avoid paying the fees if at all possible.
Avatar m tn As for seborrheic dermatitis, they may present with some dryness and flaking of the scalp. The flakes of skin are greasy and yellowish. Do these apply to your case?
Avatar f tn told us to use selsun blue, it contained an ingredient that would get rid of this, just to rub it behind his ears and leave it for 5 min before rinsing this seemed to work clearing up the red bumps and leaving lots of excess skin that was just peeling he got a haircut for back to school he decided to get it buzzed to our shock the entire right side of his scalp next to the ear seems to be infected a large red ring about 6" and the center is all red bumps, now it is itching him unfortunatel
