hi, i have a rash that i noticed 2 days ago, it started on my face i htink, but now its on my chest and arms aswel. on my face and neck the bumps are fairly small and a pale. most of the ones on my body are more red. ive notices a bit of dry skin on my hairline on my forehead aswel. its itches a little. any ideas as this is v. embarassing and worrying.
Seborrheic dermatitis may require frequent shampooing and washing of
affected parts of the body.It usually presents in the chest,the scalp and the face. Psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis may sometimes be hard to distinguish fom each other.
A consult with your primary physician may be able to help. Psoriasis may present atypically as nonscaly reddish bumps that may appear like rash.

I have been getting electrolysis on my face and have recently been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Seborrheic dermatitis may have been caused by the damaging of the hair follicles. I have very mild seb derm but it flares up about four days after an electrolysis session on my face.
Any help would be appreciated.
In seborrheic dermatitis, the scalp is greasy and when severe may present with scales. The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is still unknown although yeast infections, stress and weather have been implicated.
A dermatologist is the best person to consult with this. Vigorous and frequent shampooing is the mainstay of therapy more than the type of shampoo being used. So wash your hair frequently and scrub the scalp vigorously. Discuss this with your dermatologist.
Differentials for the skin condition will be seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis , a fungal infection and dermatitis. I do not want to cause unnecessary worrying here. What I have posted are only differentials. These are conditions that may likely explain your symptoms.
Seborrheic dermatitis may present as greasy scales over the scalp, chest and armpits. We commonly refer to these flakes as dandruff.
This may involve areas of the face, chest, and scalp. Definite cause for seborrheic dermatitis is not known. Yeast infections have been associated with this. I would suggest that you continue with your medicated shampoos. There is really no definite treatment for seborrheic dermatitis. If the condition is severe, topical corticosteroids may be able to help. Discuss this with your dermatologist, so that the corticosteroid with the right potency be given you.

This may be a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis presents with overproduction of sebum by the sebaceous glands. In most cases, they may present with scales and may affect other parts of the body like the chest and the face.

You may need medicated shampoos for this.
This condition is shown to be aggravated and triggered by stress and weather changes.
At this point, there is really no effective medical therapy for hair loss. If your hair loss is associated with tinea and seborrheic dermatitis then the underlying disorders need to be addressed first.
Hair loss also has a genetic basis. Male or female pattern baldness may follow a hereditary pattern. Treatment of the tinea and seborrheic dermatitis may help resolve the hair loss. Creams may not be sufficient for scalp infections. You may need oral antifungal therapy.
Seborrheic dermatitis would be the primary diagnosis ( petaloid seborrheic dermatitis) with 'pityrisais rosea' coming as close second (Unlikely with such a long duration and scalp involvement)
Guess would respond to ketoconazole cremes. Do consult your doc.
Over the past couple of days my scalp has been flaking more than usual. But over the past day or two, my scalp and the back of my neck and my tops of my shoulders feel like it's gotten a light sunburn, but I haven't been out in the sun. I also noticed that the back of my scalp is red in a very splotchy (medical term...I know) fashion. Could this just be stress? I've been under alot lately...or is this actually something?
s a red dot underneath, and if I use a drying soap, it looks like a crater later. I also get scabs and sore spots on my scalp, which a dermatologist told me was seborrheic dermatitis. Is this the same thing? Would it have spread to my face for some reason?

The most likely differential for this is a severe case of seborrheic dermatitis. The cause for seborrheic dermatitis is yet unknown and there is no definite form of medical therapy as this condition may recur. Others have associated yeast infections with it. While some have implicated stress and environmental factors. You may seek second opinion for your condition.
Does anyone in the family also have a similar condition?
I have all the same symptoms as you but I dont have it on my chest and I have occassional flaking on my face or behind my ears, but the sides of my face, near the temples are very reddish and I dont see that much in Rosacea pictures which makes me think that you and me either have Seborrheic Dermatitis, or a combination of that and Rosacea.
if someone has seborrheic dermatitis around his lips and chin, does it means he has HIV, or is seborrheic dermatitis a normal skin condition that affect many people.
For the last four years I feel itching, scaling and flakes on my scalp. Now only i came to know that this is Seborrheic Dermatitis. Because of this I lost almost 40% of my hairs. I learnt that this is a temporary hair loss.
I tried many shampoo's like selsun,scalpe etc. And also i have been intaking Glacex(B-complex vit) tablets long time. Still My problem is not resolved.

Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood.
Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Other symptoms include eyelash fall, styes on my eyes, small pimples on my face, changes in my skin, itchy forehad, bleeding scalp, and beaus lines on my nails, along with minor pitting. My scalp is extremely itchy as well. Ive already come to terms with my hair loss on the top of my scalp, but I dont want to loose the hair on my sides or my eyebrows!! please help!!!!
