There are no other symptoms, just flaky skin in the sides of my nose, and only the sides. it happens once a year, and started about a year ago (so i think it has to do with make up) it will probably disappear once more this spring, and come back next November. i will definitely look into Seborrheic dermatitis.
I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?
I have attached pics too. I have it on both sides of the nose. Its been this way for 5 months now. Lot of people have started noticing it now and its very embarrassing. Can I take any oral pills? Homeopathy? Any alternative medicines? I am willing to try anything and everything.
1). Manuka honey on face daily for 1 hr and wash off
2). Drinking Manuka honey and Apple cedar vinegar daily morning mixed with water
3). Noble's Zinc pyrithione soap for face (Best one so far)

I'm 22 and had a sore rash down the sides of my nose for a few years now. Some days it's not as bad as others, and it seems to be worse after I have got out of the shower. My doctors have given me a couple of things which didnt work. They gave me some hydrocortizone 1% which worked and cleared it up but I stopped using it because I was advised to use it for only a week, so the soreness came back.
Can anyone help?

From the symptoms it can be dermatitis skin, seborrheic dermatitis or fibrous papule of the nose. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky,dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent.
It usually occurs in areas of the body that have many oil-producing glands, including the scalp, face, more specifically on the eyebrows, the bridge and sides of the nose, and in the crease between the nose and lip . The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not completely clear but may be associated with overgrowth of a normal skin fungus.
There is no specific test for diagnosing seborrheic dermatitis. The diagnosis is usually based upon a person's history and physical examination.
Dermatologist also recommends the use of photodynamic therapy which involves the usage of UV- A, UV- B laser and red or blue LED light to inhibit the growth of the yeast and reduces the inflammation. If symptoms do not improve with ketoconazole then these treatment options can be planned.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches.

Apart from this, these white patches can be due to pityriasis versicolor or vitiligo.
if someone has seborrheic dermatitis patches around the lips and chin, does it means he has HIV, or is seborrheic dermatitis a common skin condition that affect many people.
I have had seborrheic dermatitis since I was a kid. I saw a doctor when it first showed up around my nose, and HIV has never ever been mentioned. It's just a type of dermatitis, not really that different from dandruff. It's very common. I just wash my hair with head and shoulders brand intensive treatment shampoo and it clears up my face just fine. I don't even need to use it daily, just during outbreaks.
some 3 months after this encounter I got seborrheic dermatitis on my face around my nose (I have had seborrheic dermatitis on my skull my whole life and it stopped at one point). Should I be worried that the seborrheic dermatitis appeared around that time ?
I haven't had any other symptoms (no weight loss - I actually gained weight, no swollen lymph nodes).

and i was stupid i added some other over the counter creams so i can get rid of the redness/itch/ and bumps caused by the cream the derm gave me...
I have been researching this online and think it is seborrheic dermatitis. I have been using clotrimazole cream twice daily as suggested on the JUST ANSWER DERMATOLOGY site for 3 days now. My question is: what are the stages of healing of this problem? Now I have much more "crusting over" and it is very dry and more itchy than before beginning the use of the cream. By the description I've given do you think it is in the healing process? Thank you ahead of time for your opinion.
