Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms it sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
Avatar m tn Hi, You are most probably suffering from seborrheic dermatitis. This may require use of both ketoconazole shampoo and cream at the same time or seperately. You should revisit your doctor to clarify this doubt. Hope this helped.. Let us know if you have any other queries.
Avatar f tn This skin disease is aggravated by sweating and humidity. To treat seborrheic dermatitis in infants, gently shampoo the hair everyday with a gentle shampoo while scales are present. After scales have disappeared, you may reduce shampoos to twice weekly. Then rinse thoroughly and brush softly. For stubborn patches, apply some mineral oil to the baby's scalp and wrap warm, wet cloths around his head for up to an hour before shampooing. Take care that the cloth does not get cold.
Avatar m tn But what worries me is that, I have developed seborrheic dermatitis which is mild on the scalp, nose, and sometimes appears in the armpits. It does not appear if I use head and shoulders shampoo on the body a couple of times a week. If I don't use the shampoo, it comes back. Does this mean my immune system is compromised? Other than the seborrheic dermatitis I have not experienced any other symptoms matching with HIV. Can I look forward to a negative result when I test?
Avatar n tn Hi, probably it is because of seborrheic dermatitis, you might be having acne problem. In some people, a yeast (fungus) called malassezia grows in the sebum along with bacteria. Antifungal treatments, such as ketoconazole (Nizoral), are often effective. “Try using the shampoo daily until your symptoms are controlled, then cut back to two or three times a week.

Avatar f tn Dry scalp, dandruff, scalp psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis. The bad part is, I just washed my hair on Monday night. I washed it, conditioned it, put a little of olive oil (food-grade), then I braided my hair in about 8 plaits. I have to wash my hair every week b/c of my scalp. I'm unable to wear twist-outs/braid-outs or any hairstyle that requires me to wear my hair out. I can't wear puffs or Afro's. I have to wear a half-wig daily and I take it off nightly.
Avatar f tn Recently I had seborrheic dermatitis all over my forehead and decided to use nizoral shampoo to wash my forehead. It has been 4 days and the seborrheic dermatitis seems to have gone however my skin has become very fragile and peels all over my forehead. If I have a shower and dry my face and rub my finger across my forehead skin just starts to peel all over, I read that peeling skin is a severe side effect of 'Nizoral'.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm without examination but apart from the possibility of eczema the possibility of seborrheic dermatitis is also there. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates and is aggravated by sweating and humidity.
Avatar n tn I have had bouts of seborheic (sp) dermatitis on my scalp and earlobe areas for some time now and I find that generic coal tar shampoo helps very well. For the first day or two you will notice some flaking of the skin but many people use it to treat the itch and inflamation successfully without any negative side effects. I have read though, that you should alternate with your regular soap as not to overly dry out the skin.
Avatar f tn But I saw the symptoms of HIV. There is Seborrheic Dermatitis which is dandruff.

Avatar n tn Actually, these chemicals may have dried up the scalp so much that you either have psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. Continued use of lice-killing shampoos will only make the condition worse. SEE YOUR DOCTOR after reading this link about psoriasis vs. seborrheic dermatitis: http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar m tn If it's the outer third of the eyebrow, you should get your thyroid checked. If you have flaking and scaling, like you have dandruff in your eyebrows, then it's probably something fungal. If it's not super red and inflamed, you could try applying some hydrocortisone cream to it. If it helps, it probably is some sort of organism causing irritation and the hair loss, and something like ketoconazole cream or even lotramin would be the thing to do.
