Avatar m tn Hello, Please elaborate on the description of the rash and the symptoms so that a list of differentials can be made. Usually seborrheic dermatitis presents in this area but it can be contact dermatitis or eczema also. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas especially under the nose or anywhere on face.
Avatar m tn Seborrheic dermatitis is not only treated when it looks read or very oily, it should be a permanent treatment avoiding any of the conditions mentioned above, if you are stressed it will get worse, once the stress lowers then it will become somewhat better. You need to permanently keep your skin in good health and use products that do not have perfume, a good medical soap, lots of water and clean towels on a daily basis.
Avatar m tn Hello, Protar k is specifically used for dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. Salibet contains a steroid and can be used in seborrheic dermatitis. you should continue the same treatment. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases.
Avatar f tn Skin diseases such as allergic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis can cause itching in the ear just as they do elsewhere. These are treated in the same way that they are treated elsewhere in the body. The diagnosis is made by otoscopy (looking inside the ear). Steroid creams are used in persons with allergic skin diseases affecting the ear. Dry ears tend to accumulate flakes of dry dead skin. This can be caused by reduced secretion of ear wax or excessive cleaning.
Avatar n tn Last October, I went to my dermatologist because the back of my head from one ear to the other had been really itching and I had raised - but non pus small bumps.. He told me that I had an infection of my hair follicles and prescribed Doxycycline. I took it for 10 days and all but an area behind the lower part of my right ear went away. I went back to him in December - when I couldn't take the itching any more and he perscribed Doxycycline again.

1473193 tn?1286922216 You will need a dermatologist to find out if the seborrheic dermatitis is causing the hair to fall out or if it's normal male patterned baldness or something else causing the hair to fall out. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn i also forgot to add that it is only on my head. its all over. the top, the back, behind me ear, in my ear, on the sides of my nose, atm only on one eyebrow but starting to show up on other, biggest spot would be on my forehead and the back of my head.
Avatar n tn I just recently noticed that I have a rash that runs along the back of my ear in the crease where my ear attaches to my head. It is about 1 inch long and gets raw then scabs over. I have been putting cortisone on it. It appears to help for a while, but then dries up, scabs and then gets raw again. It does not itch and that is the only place where it appears. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn But last year at the age of 27, my dermatologist diagnosed me with rosacea (which my father has) and seborrheic dermatitis. When I started researching about both I found that seborrheic dermatitis is associated with HIV. Then, not long after I got ringworm on my face. A year later I now live on a different country and colder climate, I now have eczema. Are my skin conditions related to HIV? I haven't had an HIV test.
Avatar n tn I have had seborrheic dermatitis since I was a kid. I saw a doctor when it first showed up around my nose, and HIV has never ever been mentioned. It's just a type of dermatitis, not really that different from dandruff. It's very common. I just wash my hair with head and shoulders brand intensive treatment shampoo and it clears up my face just fine. I don't even need to use it daily, just during outbreaks.
Avatar n tn There are no other symptoms, just flaky skin in the sides of my nose, and only the sides. it happens once a year, and started about a year ago (so i think it has to do with make up) it will probably disappear once more this spring, and come back next November. i will definitely look into Seborrheic dermatitis.
Avatar f tn I dont know what to do or what to think what it could be. The bumps r now appearing on the side of my ear becoming visible :( if anyone has advice please i will appreciate it!
Avatar m tn People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the reply im booked in again but it months away my backs a bit of a mess at the moment i do want to get these checked out my arms stop shaking but the white marks keep coming and going they stay in the same area and attend to be more in the mourning i get them on my knuckles as well they tend to appear when im outside but my best option is just to get them checked out
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face and scalp. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
Avatar n tn It is true that seborrheic dermatitis is more common in people with HIV, but that doesn't mean that the condition indicates enhanced risk of having HIV. Seborrheic derm is an exceedingly common condition, which includes everybody with dandruff!. And your dermatologist is correct: the seb derm associated with HIV tends to be severe and difficult to control, pretty much exclusively in people with advanced immune deficiency, i.e. those with overt AIDS.
Avatar m tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be due to seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. Avatar m tn I had 7 sexual encounters in the past 4 years MSM. protected/unprotected oral sex (getting sucked), sometimes anal but always protected (I was insertive every time). Don't think condom was broken. Can it go unnoticed. There was no prior risk & I had tested 4 years back as negative. Recently I saw mild skin issues under nose, back of neck and back of left ear. It my be seborrheic dermatitis. No other symptoms. Is it possible it is indication of HIV.
Avatar f tn Low potency topical glucocorticoids are usually recommended first for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. These treatments are available in creams and lotions for the face. The topical steroid should be applied daily until the dermatitis improves; they can then be gradually discontinued. If it persists, it would be best to see your dermatologist for further evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn This skin disease is aggravated by sweating and humidity. To treat seborrheic dermatitis in infants, gently shampoo the hair everyday with a gentle shampoo while scales are present. After scales have disappeared, you may reduce shampoos to twice weekly. Then rinse thoroughly and brush softly. For stubborn patches, apply some mineral oil to the baby's scalp and wrap warm, wet cloths around his head for up to an hour before shampooing. Take care that the cloth does not get cold.
