I have been researching this online and think it is seborrheic dermatitis. I have been using clotrimazole cream twice daily as suggested on the JUST ANSWER DERMATOLOGY site for 3 days now. My question is: what are the stages of healing of this problem? Now I have much more "crusting over" and it is very dry and more itchy than before beginning the use of the cream. By the description I've given do you think it is in the healing process? Thank you ahead of time for your opinion.

It can be due to dermatitis skin, seborrheic dermatitis or rosacea skin. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. Rosacea is a cutaneous disorder primarily of the central part of the face , such as forehead; cheeks ;nose; and chin which causes redness and dryness of skin.
Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood.
Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.

If the rash has appeared suddenly then it can be due to contact dermatitis, viral rashes or seborrheic dermatitis. But if it has been present for quite some time, then it can be due to rosacea. Rosacea is a medical condition presenting with redness, swelling, discoloration and sometimes pimples and dry skin over the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead.
What exactly it is can be confirmed only after physical examination by a dermatologist.

Since last few weeks i have dry ,scaly skin under my eyebrow and arond my noseline.its like flaky red skin.I get redness on my chin too easily.It looks like Seborrheic dermatitis.I have had blood trafunsion before two year in CA USA.I am really worried that did i get something from blood tranfusion or not though i have read this blood supply in usa is very safe but i am worried as i have also read that HIV is realted to this skin condition.I am really worried...
but the thing which is hurting me a lot is the embarrasing redness and inflammation on my face,plz help me in this context.

I agree with you as the symptoms are suggestive of seborrheic dermatitis or eczema. The hypopigmentation can be related to both. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches.
For the hypopigmentation, nothing is to be done as mild cases improve on their own.

It has never been bad like it looks when I look up seborrheic dermatitis (which one doctor told me I had). I have found the redness is worse in the mornings, redness and blotchy across my upper cheeks.
I have had two prescription creams from the doctor, one for seborrheic dermatitis and one for rosacea, both made my skin feel tight and more dry. I have tried everything under the sun in the way of creams and am currently using Liz Earle for dry/sensitive skin.

I have had bouts of seborheic (sp) dermatitis on my scalp and earlobe areas for some time now and I find that generic coal tar shampoo helps very well. For the first day or two you will notice some flaking of the skin but many people use it to treat the itch and inflamation successfully without any negative side effects. I have read though, that you should alternate with your regular soap as not to overly dry out the skin.

Avoid the sun and hot weather, spicy foods, alcohol, and hot beverages. Also try to reduce stress as it may precipitate attacks. A dermatologist’s evaluation will be the best.
I went to a dermatologist about 2 months ago about my face. It started out just as redness around my nose. Then it spread to my chin, around my mouth, on my nose, on my forehead, and between my eyes. It is red, itches, is very sore, and has very small bumps. I was diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis.I am washing with Sulfo-Lo soap and have tried Ala-Cort, Finacea, and Fluticasone Propionate Cream 0.05%. I have also had 30 days of Minocycline. But, nothing has worked. Please help.
If the irritation persists then pls get it evaluated from a dermatologist.Eczema and seborrheic dermatitis have to be ruled out.

I do have dandruff in my hair. I was diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis by my dermatologist at the age of 21. Not knowing any better when I was younger I tried everything over the counter for acne, but I didn't have acne. I definitely do not have rosacea because I never got pustules.
I have tried:
Metrogel
Finacea
Desonate
Nizoral Shampoo on my face
head and shoulders on my face
and Desonide lotion.
the only thing that works is desonide lotion.
I would suggest you to get this red rash evaluated from a dermatologist first before using any steroid cream because the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis is different from eczema. From the symptoms seborrheic dermatitis is a possibility along with other possibilities of contact dermatitis or dermatitis and need to be ruled out.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

I cannot confirm anything without examination but since your mother has rosacea, so it can be either rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily).
