I was told by my dermo that I had Seborrheic dermatitis. It was dry itchy and scaly under my beard, in the nose folds, ears and eyebrows. I was given desonate gel to use for 2 weeks and things calmed down. However now I just have a redness itchy forehead. I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?
I have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis on my face. I was asked to take sporanox capsules by the doc for a week and consult the doc soon after. The fungal infection subsided within that period but I did not consult the doc after that. The infection has returned once again . I would like to know if I should take the capsules once again for a week and then consult the doc or meet the doc before taking them.

I cannot confirm anything without examination,but it can be due to seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky,dry, itchy scales to form on oily areas of the face esp cheeks and forhead. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily).
I have been researching this online and think it is seborrheic dermatitis. I have been using clotrimazole cream twice daily as suggested on the JUST ANSWER DERMATOLOGY site for 3 days now. My question is: what are the stages of healing of this problem? Now I have much more "crusting over" and it is very dry and more itchy than before beginning the use of the cream. By the description I've given do you think it is in the healing process? Thank you ahead of time for your opinion.

Hi, I am male 36yrs old. I have had Seborrheic Dermatitis for 15yrs. I have it on my face, head, back, ears and chest. The worse area affected is my face, around my nose. I have used Steroid cream, herbal medicine, aloe vera plant and antibiotics. At present I am using Aveeno Cream and Steroid Cream 0.05%. My skin has not been clear for the last 6mths. I am also on anti-depressants as I suffer from depression due to my skin condition. Is there any advice that you can give me.

I agree with you as the symptoms are suggestive of seborrheic dermatitis or eczema. The hypopigmentation can be related to both. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches.
For the hypopigmentation, nothing is to be done as mild cases improve on their own.

I have been seeing a dermatologist for some time now regarding a rash that appeared on my face last July (2011). It started around the nasal labial folds on my face and was itchy and unsightly. I used various creams on it including Hydrocortisone, Daktacort, Nizoral, Betnovate C, Eumovate and Protopic with varying degrees of success (I am guilty of using anti fungal creams for days instead of weeks as I see no improvement).
